  1. Hi guys/girls

Played my second game of malifaux 2E the other day, match up was me as Pandoras and my mate as kiri after which I have a couple of questions

    1. Can a incorporeal model leave a models engagement range and not triggering a disengaging strike

    2. Do ranged and close combat skills that use the Ca stat instead of Mi or Sh  (i.e. Pandoras self loathing/ Candys Wail ) do full damage to Incorporeal models

    3. Similar to above does the AOE damage from Pandora's fears given form upgrade get halved for incorporeal models.

    4. Similar to above again does damage from the Misery Trait get effect by Incorporeal.

Any help with the above would be appreciated peeps, as a side note i'm really liking M2E I played first edition for a while but M2E is so much tighter and Pandora is totally Amazeballs :)

Incorporeal does not circumvent disengaging strikes.  It is one of the examples used in the rulebook.  For your other questions, only damage from Ml or Sh attacks are halved.  All other damage is not.

  2. Time: June 28, 2014

    Registration: 11a-1159a

    Tournament Start: 12p

    Game Size: 50 Soulstones

    Tournament Format: Gaining Grounds 2014

Location: Montag's Games (9430 Broadway St., Pearland, TX, 77584)

    Phone: 281.412.4100

    Entry Fee: $10

Montag's Games will be hosting a 50 soulstone tournament for Wyrd Miniatures' Malifaux. The tournament will be using the Gaining Grounds 2014 tournament formatting (which can be found at http://wyrd-games.net). The entry fee will be $10 and the number of rounds will depend on participation.

All players are welcomed to participate. Registration will be between 11a-1159a that morning. Games will begin as close to 12p as possible. Each round will run for 110 minutes (with a 10 minute interval for crew construction).

At registration, all players must select one Faction that they will hiring from throughout the tournament. The tournament season used for this tournament will be determined by the TO and will not be announced. Scheme pools will be determined randomly by the TO for each round.

Please see the Gaining Grounds packet for the rules on proxies and conversions. All models must be assembled, but painted models will not be required.

Prize support will depend upon participation.

  3. The spawn mother is not nekima or bad juju, and should not be used as such.  She's more of a support henchman, better leading a crew from behind.  Give her a try in a zoraida-heavy swampfiend list (and make sure you bring another "big model" to take some of the heat off of her).

  4. I have a question for the Kaeris players, just to keep the conversation going. What Kaeris crew do you pick to play the following game, and why?

    50ss game vs Outcasts

    Corner Deployment,

    Strategy; Stake a Claim,

Schemes; ALITS, Bodyguard, Cursed Object, Distract, Vendetta.

I played the above in a recent league match and I'd like to compare approaches. :)

What master are you expecting to play against?  Outcasts are notoriously difficult to build against.

    Otherwise, I'd try:

    Arcanists Crew - 50 - Scrap

    Kaeris -- 7 Pool
    +Arcane Reservoir [2]
    +Grab and Drop [1]
    +Powered by Flame [2]

    Eternal Flame [2]
    Arcane Effigy [4]
    Fire Gamin [4]
    Fire Gamin [4]
    Gunsmith [7]
    Mechanical Rider [12]
    +Imbued Energies [1]
    Metal Gamin [4]
    Metal Gamin [4]

  5. I can see both cases for the whiskey golem, as for Fingers, it's not just him being amazing at laying schemes, it's how good he is also at denying them, I mean, it's a no interact bubble, that is pure evil in stake a claim or squatter's rights, specially if the scheme pool is chock full of scheme marker related objectives and he also spreads a lot of poison to favor poison Brewmaster.

It's still a hefty 10 SS tag, but in the right matches he can probably singlehandedly give you all the momentum. Really really want to try the trichi...

I'm not arguing against that.  Sometimes, you just need to get 1 more wound on an enemy, which Fingers is incapable of doing.

  6.

Basically, what's the consensus about Fingers and the whisky golem and what upgrades are worth it with each? Do people go with angry drunk on the golem or pass?

I never had any success with the whiskey golem as a melee threat.  He was better used as an objective grabber that could clear out his own way.

I'm currently on the fence concerning Fingers.  He is solely a support model, but may be the best scheme layer in the game.  However, I've had too many games where his lack of combat potential cost me a win.

  7. So far both times I have played him it has been with a Lucius crew.  The crew generally will include Ryle, some combo of austringers or riflemen with Dashell, a couple guild guard and a hunter (though I may start dropping the hunter for stalkers as the hunter's speed isn't needed as much against NB).

The other models I own are the rest of the lucius box, the entire Sonya box, a peacekeeper, an executioner, and a warden.  (I have 3 GG, 3 riflemen, 2 austringers.)

I have thought about going all in on the horror duel avoidance, with my guild sarge, my lawyer, ryle and the warden as the main base of my force.  I also have thought about borrowing Franc. from a friend to push coppellius away from my guys and into a 1:1 that will at worst tie him up and at best kill him off.

The simplest thing you could do is spread out just far enough were Coppelius cannot engage more than one model.  Another is to position Ryle so that he must be engaged if Coppelius insists on shooting across the board.

Lucius can give Coppelius real problems as well.  Teleporting your ranged units out of melee is the best option, and then Lucius can tag Coppelius with Red Tape afterwards.

  8. Why is this in the rules forum?

Anyways, everybody eventually gets what they want from the game they play.  Gamers want to game; painters want to paint; story-tellers want to story-tell.  In the end, you should enjoy what you want from the hobby, and understand and accept that not everybody gets the same enjoyment as everybody else.

  9. more Questions  :D

I dont have the wave1 TT cards/pdf - are there any retainers besides ashigaru and those construct things/statues (i dont know the name right now) ?

Also, are there more ancestors besides Yin, Izasmu, Toshiro ?

    Thanks guys

No retainers, but there are some useful stuff that aren't, like rotten belles and punk zombies (if you go Rezzer).

  10. Echoing the point about the stolen, wretch and catchers.

Out of interest, what are people using as Rat Kings at the moment? I have 11 rats, and i rarely see more than 5 on the table at any one time these days...

I have seen players put 3 Malifaux Rats on a 40mm base.

  12. I know that I'm late to the party, but I'd like to play devil's advocate.

There exists several hard counters to Lure, blocking off LOS being the easiest to achieve and available to every crew (depending on the agreed amount of terrain).

Another one that comes to mind is Sonnia's counterspell aura.  Ca 8 is worthless without both suits.  I have been on both ends of this, and its just not fun.  Taking models with Stubborn, or old-fashioned Immunity, also gives the Belles a hard game.

When your opponent declares Resurrectionists, the first thing anybody should consider is that Belles are an option.  Your allowed to bring countermeasures.

  13. Which is different to what is written on the witchling stalker card.

All models damaged by this model gains the Burning+1 condition.

Also page 26 is for triggers and searing mark is not a trigger

I agree, but it technically says "common timing terms used in triggers."  It is also the only place that I found in the rules that remotely comes close to resolving this.
