  1. Is this how that would work? ... since the ability, Rigged to Blow are the same on both cards, I would think when the ice golem is torn apart adjacent puppets only suffer one rip, since the rules say that things like sprint, do not stack, and I assume the same would be true of Riged to Blow.

Well hot damn, you're right. They're the same ability, so they wouldn't stack. Good catch!

    Haven't we all...

    Amen brutha!

  2. If you use "can't say no to you" to make a puppet (with one rip left) attack the ice golem from an adjacent space and the ice golem is torn apart all adjacent puppets will suffer one rip, thus killing the puppet under can't say no to you, which is not allowed...so can this attack not be made, or is the puppet affected by "can't say no to you" just not torn apart?

I disagree on this particular example being an issue. CSNTY reads "This Action can not Tear Apart the target Puppet." In your example, CSNTY is not causing the targeted model to be torn apart by the Attack Action performed, the Ice Golem's Ability "Rigged to Blow" is. Therefore, in my eyes, it is a valid (and wonderfully devious!) play.

As for the Roulette, I suppose since there is a definite possibility of having the targeted puppet torn apart by the action, that action would not be valid.

Unreliable is one of the sweetest attachment Abilities in the game. Give it to an Ice Golem with one stitch left and kamikaze him into a pack of puppets. Two wounds for everyone! Fullborer routinely uses that move to clear the battlefield in our games. Jerk.... :)

  3. Another small update. I just noticed there was a "No Master" added to Frog Legs. Just download the Errata file for the new card (as well as the new versions of Rotten Belle and Witchling Stalker).

And sorry this wasn't done sooner! I've been focusing on some non-gaming things the past couple of months.

By the way, the Pokey Vik file still does not have the small one-word change. The text formatting on that one particular card was kinda tricky - and unfortunately not saved - and I've been unable to recreate it for an update (yet). I'll let you know when I crack that puzzle haha.

  4. I have no problem starting early, and I was planning on going till 5.

    Whew! Long time no post.

Sooo.. 8 weeks to Adepticon... 9 puppets to paint... yeah, this could get messy.

But! Here is my first finished puppet, one of my dynamic duo of Ronin.

This is a really nice looking model. Has a gritty look, very much in the malifaux art style.

  5. Updated 4-24-12, Red Teddy AR typo (it said 8:rams, it now says 4:rams)

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>

I updated the stat card set with the Rotten Belle errata and the Witchling Stalker fix.

I also added a new zip file by the name of "Errata". If you already have all of the existing files, just download this one file for any fixes as they are updated.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Here are the re-released files. They are designed to be playing card sized, taking up less table space than the stat cards that come with miniatures.

You can get the files here. You'll need a Gmail account to get the files, I believe. If you find any errors, please pm me asap so I can make corrections.

For each card there is a TIF file and a JPEG. I recommend printing the TIF file using a good laser printer, on very high quality paper. This is the best defense against smudgy text. If you have access to Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro/GIMP, you may want to adjust the brightness of the image to account for differences in printers. I personally use gamma correction, as I feel it retains colors better than brightness adjustments, and I find gamma settings between 1.6-1.8 are usually in the ballpark. Your mileage may vary.....

I also recommend getting a nice Fiskars paper cutter. You can find them for around twenty bucks in the scrapbooking area of your local craft store. You can make incredibly precise cuts using these cutters.

These are designed to be printed, cut, folded in half, and inserted into a clear card sleeve. I recommend Dragon Sleeves, as they are very high quality and you get a nice little storage box. :)

    Here are some card examples:

  6. Here's the two things's I'd do to change her:

Combine all of the effects of Downer and Really Annoying into one :fast Action ("Really Freaking Annoying"), range: in play, no LOS required, and raise it to a 6 + a :masks discard. -- As it stands right now, to activate Pandora and actually use her Actions, you're going to go through a huge portion of your Masks. Frankly, many of the other puppets in her crew have better Actions to use those Masks on, so I rarely use Pandora's Actions. Combining these two relatively "meh" Actions into one "decent" Action doesn't really change much in the grand scheme of things, but frees up a mask or two for better (more fun) use.

Add the "Quit Hitting Yourself" Action, 9:masks, range 4 with LOS, targetted model makes a cb1 attack against itself with no modifiers, owning player may play a dodge and flips the attack from his own deck -- As I said before, this action feels very masky, would be a blast to use, and allows Pandora to be *actively* useful to her crew - albeit at a relatively high cost for a single strike. The fact that it burns through the opponent's cards is icing on the cake and also feels very masky.

With these two changes, I would really enjoy using Pandora. She isn't very fun because currently she doesn't do very much. Her current actions, even if used every single turn (apparently you stacked your deck with extra masks? lol), are still soooo passive and unengaging for both the Pandora player and the opponent.

Also, I really want the chance to say to my opponents "Quit hitting yourself. Quit hitting yourself. Quit hitting yourself....."

  7. Just thought I'd chime in on this. Our gaming group, I believe, would agree that Pandora is less fun to play.

I personally love this as a new ability, as it gives her an incredibly fun and useful action, and feels very Pandora-ish:

    B. She could have a model attack itself but maybe lower its attack value to 0 or 1. You could still allow the controller to play a dodge card and make the spell require a high mask card to play it(to keep it balanced).

I think a 9:masks would be about right to get it off as a Cb1 attack. Furthermore, I think the player that owns the effected model should be the one to flip all the cards, from the attack to the dodge.

  8. Yeah, 10am start time would help, too, and looking at the Sunday morning schedule shouldn't conflict with anything else (besides sleeping off an extra-fun Saturday night haha!).

Nilus, how will the tournament be scored? Just curious.

  9. Hey everyone! It's a good day today, for a couple of reasons:

    1) I finally won a game of Puppet Wars last night (4-player, even!)

    2) It was on the debut game of my new custom board, which...

    3) was finished yesterday, just in time for our game night. :1_Happy_Puppet1:

I used 3cm laser-cut wood hexes from Litko, carefully glued to a thin sheet of wood (I think it's birch). I scanned the board, and increased the size by 15%. I only wanted this board to be slightly larger, to give the puppets a bit of elbow room without taking up much more table space.

After painting the board, staining the hexes, and adding a coat of minwax to seal and protect the wood, I carefully cut out each hex and applied them to the hexes using decoupage. Another coat of minwax to protect it, a matte spray to get rid of the gloss and glare, and it's done.

As for our game last night, wow it was a grind....

Hey Nilus, we were talking about Adepticon, and wondering if you put any thought into the time it takes to play as you add more players. A two player game can be finished pretty quickly, but we haven't played a 4-player game that lasted less than 2.5 hours, and it's normally more like 3+. Also, 3-player games tend to really be two-player games - right after the two players finish ganging up on the unfortunate 3rd who shows some weakness.

With that in mind, we thought maybe you may consider doing two rounds of 2-player (which should only take a total of 3 hours if things are kept moving), and the 3rd round a 4-player game. That will still have the tournament running pretty late into the day, but we'll have a 1-hour cushion before the end of the 40k championships (which tend to run like clockwork) so we can run over our allotted time a bit if needed. Being a Sunday afternoon event, and with people wanting to get on the road, I'd hate for people to not enjoy their final game of the weekend because they're feeling rushed. I'm not sure a 5-hour block will be enough for the 2-3-4 player format.

  10. Heck, little Hans here came within one card flip of taking Tauwolf completely out of our last game in the second turn. Mostly that was Tauwolf not paying attention (LaFemmeGeekita is distracting), but had he not flipped a low enough card to activate a Teddy before Hans could go, well, he’d have lost even sooner! heh…

    .........

Stay tuned for the next episode where I convert something a bit more extensively. I’m not going to guarantee you’ll like the results, but I’m sufficiently pleased with myself not to care what you think. So there.

Ouch, that's just cold.... It's true, though!

I can't wait for the next update. Trust me guys, the next mini is the best of the lot. I got to see it tonight. Soooo good.

  11. Well, it's been awhile since I've done any updating. Aaaaaand that's because it's been awhile since I've focused on PW. I'm trying to get back into the groove, though.

This past weekend I got together with Fullborer and LaFemmeGeekita for some disturbingly brutal puppet warring. I again ended up being the first to be taken out of the game. Lesson learned: in a 3-player game you DO NOT want to be either the first to look powerful or the first to show weakness. The first will get your opponents tag-teaming against you, and the second will turn them into sharks with blood in the water.... I was the victim of both, lol.

I also started my custom board project this week. I'm still hashing out exactly what I want to do, but I got the board scanned and prepared in photoshop, and some extra graphic elements done. I'll be using the scanned image, resized to about 133%, and laid over laser-cut hexes. I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel, I just want a board that gives the puppets a bit more breathing room.

I'm hoping to get some painting done this week, and maybe a game or two over the weekend. If I paint, I'll post some pics.

  12. Thanks for the heads up, Nilus. I'm sure we'll all be bringing at least one board. A couple of us may even have custom boards done by then, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that haha.

I lost my puppet groove a few weeks ago, when the holiday schedule got crazy. Hoping to do a little bit of painting this week, and maybe get a game in over the weekend to try to get back into the swing of things!
