  1. So I've been away from the forums for a while now, and unsurprisingly my old threads are gone, so I guess I'll start a new one.  I have no intention of posting all of my models, but I figure sharing my current projects is a good idea.

For starters, my most recent completion, Dark Carnival.

As we try and share the excitement that is Malifaux, I've added recurring "Malifaux Game Nights" to the list here (putting it on the calendar was too cluttered).

If anyone has a weekly night they'd like 'advertised' let me know I'll get it added.

Just Games in Rochester, NY has Malifaux night on Tuesdays from 6pm to close.

  3. Lock-in Event

This is a fun, tongue in cheek event.  Do not take it too seriously and have a good time.

Scheme Rules – Each player may choose 8 Schemes to form their scheme pool for the day.  No scheme may be used more than once.

    Round 1

    25 Soulstone – Henchman lead

    Standard deployment – Head Hunters

    45 minutes

    Round 2

    Team game – 30 Soulstones

Players will be split into two tiers; upper and lower.  Upper tier players will be paired with lower tier players.  The upper tier player will build a crew using a master as the leader, while the lower tier player will build a crew lead by a henchman.  Both players will have access to their own cache.  Unspent soulstones will become a communal pool, with no more than 4 stones combined.  Teams will score strategy points collaboratively, but scheme points individually.  Teammates are “friendly” to one another.

Deployment – Modified corners.  Each player will have a corner deployment, with teammates sharing a side of the board.

Strategy –Modified  Turf War – Requires one model from each player to gain the point.

    2 ½ hours

    Round 3

    The Gang up

Players will be broken up into three tiers.  Top tier players will build standard 50 Soulstone crews.  Mid Tier and Bottom Tier players will be paired off into teams following the round 2 rules with 25 stones for each player.  Additionally, the team players will have their hand sizes reduced to 4 cards.  The Individual player will count their scheme points double for this round.

    Deployment – Close

    Strategy – Extraction

    2 ½ hours

Adjustments will be made as needed due to attendance.

  4. Greetings one and all.  It is now the month of Halloween.  A month of thrills and chills.  So, Millennium games will be hosting a night of Malifaux to get your creepy fun in.

On Saturday, October 24th, Millennium games will be holding a lock-in.  A Malifaux tournament will be run during this lock-in.  The Malifaux group will be gathering starting at 7 pm.  Tournament will start at 7:30 pm.  Shop closes at 4 am, and we will likely play the night away.

But, for such a night, you can have just any tournament.  No, you have to have a special tournament.  More details will be forth-coming in the near future, but for now, be prepared for a tournament of challenges and treachery.  It will be a fixed faction format, and you will likely need both a Master and a henchman at some point in the night, so plan accordingly.  This will be a night of fun and odd challenges, so don't take it too seriously.

The entry fee for the night will be $20.  More details to follow.

  5. "Leave the Kitchen Sink"  Tournament

What is that?  That is a gaining grounds tournament.  But why the funny name?  Well, the soulstone amount for this tournament is going to be 40 ss.  That means you have to make some tough choices.

So, to be succinct, there will be a 40 ss Gaining Grounds Tournament held on September 20th at Pair A Dice Games.  The store opens at noon, and games will start at 1230. $5 gets you in the event, and 3 rounds will be played to determine the winner for the day.  So come on down to play.  Fun will be had by all.

Any questions may be directed to me here on the forums or to the Western NY Malifaux facebook group.

  6. What would happen if Joss were to lead a group of Nephilim against the Guild?  What if Montressor followed a bunch of gremlins on a raid?  Francisco moonlighting with some Rotten Belles?  Who knows, but we can sure find out.

Come to Pair A Dice Games on Sunday, June 21st and partake in a 4 round Treacherous Ties Tournament.  Rules for this format can be found in the "Alternate tournament formats" file.  Store opens at Noon, with the first round starting at 12:30.  Entry is $5 with all proceeds going towards prize support.  This is expected to be a low key, beginner friendly event, so no matter what your experience is, come on down and have some fun.  Let's see what odd combinations we can create.

    3) All models must be un-painted at this point. Proof required upon entry.

  9. Our local group has started a semi-monthly painting contest.  This has been done to encourage us to paint more, and to possibly get input from others both in and out of our group on how to improve or what is working well.  These are the entries for the first.  Help us decide the winners.

  10. It is time to challenge ourselves. Time to see who can paint really well. Time to get some models finished. (And who doesn't need that?!)

So, it is time to have a painting contest. Here are the ground rules. Each entry will consist of one (1) model. This month will have no theme, but future contests will have themes as chosen by the coordinators. The model may be assembled and primed, but no more at the start. Proof required (either a photo or showing me in person). All painters have until midnight on April 19th to submit one (1) photo to me via PM, at which point the entries will by uploaded to the Wyrd Forums for voting. Top entries after 1 week of voting will receive prizes. Painters may submit up to 4 entries.

VERY IMPORTANT RULE: The top winner is responsible for setting the theme for the next contest. They will not be eligible to enter in the contest they set the theme for.

Fee will be $5 per entry. All entry fees will go in to prize support.

Please direct any questions to me on the Western NY Malifaux facebook group, or on the Wyrd Forums.

  11. It seems there is a lot of new interest in this wonderful game of ours.  Particularly in and around the Rochester, NY area.  So, on behalf of Millennium Games, I will be hosting a Demo Day on Saturday, March 28th, starting at noon, and going until 6pm.  So, if you are, or know someone who is interested in trying the game of Malifaux, bring them on down.

Already play?  That's fine too.  Feel free to join us for open play.  Perhaps help with demos, or even just provide an opponents for newer players looking to expand their skills.  Share your tips and tricks on assembling models, painting, storage, transport, and game-play.  The more players we have, the better this will be.

New player who already has started?  You are also encouraged to join us.  There will be plenty of players of all experience levels.  Get some game time in to hone your skills.  Talk to people about any questions you have about the game and the hobby.  Generally come and have a good time.

So please come and join us.  There is no entry fee for the day.  Simply stop on in and have some fun.

  13. Greetings one and all.

Now that we have campaign rules, I think it is time for a new league in Rochester.  The league will last for 6 weeks and will use the new campaign rules.  I will be putting a limit of 2 campaign games a week to keep opportunities balanced.

Remember, the rules can be found here: http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/105761-playtest-documents-and-guidelines/

Also, remember that the rules will be tweaked each week as the playtest continues.

As usual, fun play is encouraged over super competitive play.  Prizes will be handled in a Raffle format.

Entry fee is $15 payable directly to me.  All entry fees will go towards prize support.

  15. Greeting Wyrdlings,

On Saturday, September 20th, Millennium Games in Rochester will be holding a Lock-in event.  This means we will be running late into the night and possibly (probably) into the wee hours of the morning.  During this time, we will have a 40ss Gaining Grounds Format Tournament, followed by open play, and board gaming.  If you plan to play in the tournament, the entry fee will be $20.  If you just want to open play and board game, the entry fee will be $15.  There will be food provided (usually around midnight).

The start time for this exciting event is 6pm.  The end time is whenever we get too tired or the store kicks us out, whichever comes first.  The tournament will begin around 7pm, but you can still come for open play later if you can't make it in time for the tournament.  So please come and join us.  Past lock-ins have been a lot of fun, and this one will be no different.

    Where:  Millennium Games

Just getting in to the game?  Just starting a new crew?  Just looking for a good time?  Then come to Pair A Dice Games LLC on Sunday, October 19th and join us for our Box set tournament.  Three rounds of Gaining grounds format tournament play, set at 40 Soulstones.  Your crew must contain all but on model from a box set, and any other models required to reach 40 Stones.  You must declare your box set at the beginning of the day.

How much will this cost you ask?  $10 gets you in for the event, and a chance to win prizes.  Prize support is handled in raffle format, so anyone has a chance at swag.  When?  Doors will open at 12 noon, and it is my fervent hope to have the first round going by 12:15, so be on time.

  17. Most of what I have been reading here deals very well with the psychological end of things.  And from the discussion, it is easy to see that this is what the OP was looking for mostly.  But I do feel that most players do hit a plateau with certain crews if they play them regularly.  My only real advice for this is to break the habit.  Someone above mentioned trying out the schemes you don't normally choose, and that is great advice.  But trying a different crew is a good idea from time to time.  Preferably something completely different from what you normally play.  Playing a few games this way can open your eyes to new ways of seeing the board, which can often help your play with the original crew(s).

  18. With the addition of a few new players, it has been decided that we will be running a hobby night alongside our regular Wednesday night gaming.  So, if you are new and want to learn more about the hobby side, or if you are more experienced and have things you would like to share, bring them along this coming Wednesday at Millennium Games.
