  1. Surely you can scrape together enough time to paint a single crew between now and August! I believe in you.

While I appreciate the faith, a full time job, wife and kids with tons of activities and having barely a half hour to breath a day...... likely not ;-)

    Doesn't mean I won't try.  I just won't sign up until I think it is feasible :-D

  2. Also, question:  What are the painting requirements?  All that type of information would be good to know.

While I would like to really enter one of the Story encounters or qualifiers, if fully painted is required I will either be VERY limited in selection or just play SOL :-D

Maybe just the Achievement league is something I play in instead.

  3. ...

A lot of the Malifaux podcasts spend way too much time just yakking about stuff only tangentially related to Malifaux (some friend they saw at a tournament, lame "jokes," excessive navel-gazing, etc.).  This is exacerbated by some painfully slow talkers (1.5-2x playback speed to the rescue).  Some of these podcasts run longer than two hours but have half the content of more focused 1 hr podcasts like those on Guessing Zero.  Whether through editing or just staying on topic, shows like Desperate Mercs set the standard for a concentrated dose of Malifaux goodness.

Well, I don't think it is malifaux specific podcasts that have this problem.  I listen to a lot of the WM/H and Infinity podcasts too, or should I say DID listen to a lot of them.....

things that kill podcasts dead for me every time:

    • Inside jokes that take up 10-15 minutes.  Hell, anything that is more than 1 minute of inside stuff is just a waste of time.
    • 1 to 3 to 5+ minute intros of music that I really don't care to listen too.  I am glad you like classic rock/country/dubstep/whatever and want to share.  But I don't want that in my podcast (no, it is not peanut-butter + chocolate = resse's).  Get to the goods!
    • Don't tell me you are taking a break.  This doesn't kill it, but it is annoying as hell.  It is not live radio.  I don't need to pause and do something else while commercials blare.  Take your break.  Just spend a bit more time when you are editing it.
    • Anything that is not on topic and seems to appear EVERY TIME.  I don't care!  Get to the goods!
    • Pimping your latest gear that is game related is totally fine.  Just don't take a third of an episode about it (haven't had that problem with any Mali podcasts yet.  Malifools bendy-boards stuff is actually humorous and tongue-in-cheek, so that is an example of HOW to do it)

One infinity podcast had a bag manufacterer rant for about 20 minutes one episode about how people were wrongly/rightly talking trash about him.  I really don't care.  I wasn't there to listen to him cry about something.  I was there for a podcast on infinity.  The podcast has been MUCH better since he left and if I was heavily into Infinity still (not abandoned, just Malifaux is my girl at the moment) I would be listening to it consistently because the other 2 hosts had good insight.  That was a good change and I think all podcasts can get better.

I stopped listening to the majority of WM/H podcasts because there was just too much crap in between and didn't feel like wasting my time fastforwarding through.  I still listen to Chain Attack though.  There is some junk in that podcast, but I would say it is 99% fun.

Now, this is all complaining/ranting/some-say-whinging.  That said:

    THANK YOU!!!!!

Thank you to all the people who dedicate their time in contributing podcasts to this great game and all the other ones (even if I think the other game might suck ;-)).  Game companies should be thanking you as well.  When your cast is done right..... you make everyone want to stop what they are doing and just start painting/building/playing/gaming!  Quite a few of you peeps have given me hours of entertainment on the trains commuting to work, while painting, while cooking, etc.  And I wanted to say, thanks!

  4. I listen to a lot of the ones listed but I have really been enjoying the hell out of "Desperate Mercs" on Guessing Zero.

I don't think it hurts that one of the hosts' voice reminds me of Patton Oswald.  I love the idea of Patton Oswald playing Malifaux.  Patton is the man! :-D

  5. Doesn't deciding to use her Wp to defend with make it a Wp duel and allow her to push, too?

It does.  It is cool because you can play her a bit up front and then with her high Wp, get out of harms way pretty easily.

  6. It looks like a good list. It's a bit off topic, but how do you feel on Tots on scheme running? I am thinking of getting a few more figures for Lynch and Tots were my main choice for objective, I am also thinking of buying the Nephilim box, not sure how they go with Lynch but the models are great. :)

I am finding a hard time to find a function for Depleted as they can't participate on schemes.

The tots can be MAGIC.  If you get an ace of masks in your hands...... hoooooo-boy do they haul :-D

  7. sorrows? slow?!?  check out their (1) Misery Loves Company action!

Yeah, I was REALLY surprised at how fast they can be.  If they are your first model to activate your turn... sure.... wk 3 is slow......

but if you move a model up to 8" away...... and then can chain to another...... those guys COOK!  Was nicely surprised.

Also, I will need to add the depression upgrade to him next time.  That looks pretty sweet!

  8. ....I'm actually rather envious of the newbies as they don't have to deal with the temptation to re-purchase whole crews now that the shiny new models have started hitting the shelves.

<whistling> "It's goooooood to be a newbie! gooooood goood good :-D"</whistling>

It helps keep my budget down.... a bit. I still am winding up buying a lot, but at least I can tell myself it isn't out yet, so don't get it :-D

  9. What models - minions in particular - are people finding useful with Pandora? It seems like she has a couple great choices when it comes to enforcers and henchmen, but her minion options other than Sorrows I'm not so sure about. Or are Pandora list just most effective with fewer but better enforcers/henchmen with the right upgrades?

My guess, from my limited play (1 game and that was with Lynch ;-)), is that Tater Tots go great with just about any neverborn faction if used purely as a utility piece. 4 stones for guys who can sprint and drop markers like little freaky demon monkeys..... sign me up.

I have been reading about the game quite a bit, saw what they could do on the table (Lady J saw it to and smashed them right when she saw how fast they can move) and am sold.

They might not fit in every list, but if you are doing the normal pick your crew-after-scenario, then you might find good space for them.

I am still waiting on my Pandora crew pack and likely will be picking up the lilith one in the next month or so to get those little taters in some of my crews :-D

You also will want something to support you filtering for masks though, and that might be a bad thing because they might compete a bit for some of the mask-based triggers that seem prevalent in Pandora's usual suspects.

  10. Some phone's cameras even have a Macro setting (usually along with night, auto, action, etc).

At least my last Android phone had it (I haven't had an android in a while though, so I don't know).

It did a pretty good job most of the time. That and a decent lightbox help make for acceptable pictures.
