  1. Thanks! Yep, a few guys from Friday Night Dice taught a friend and I the game. They were super friendly and nice and even stayed late to teach us. Do you go to FND? Where else do people play Malifaux in SoCal?

We play just about anywhere Malifaux is sold in SoCal :) I know up North my brother is planning a tournament at a new store that's about to open up called JJ's.

Your best bet is to join our facebook for the latest events and discussions. Right now we're running an end of year campaign, and wouldn't you know it- Arcanists just took the lead!

  2. The updated list looks pretty spot on. You'll be able to cover a lot of strategies with your current list. If you are looking for a bit of speed and board control, you might consider a blister of Union Miners to give you some mobility and some added M&SU utility, and when he's available, I love the board control Willie adds.

Welcome to SoCal Malifaux BTW! I'm assuming you have done some gaming up at Friday Night Dice?

  3. I'm kinda with you on the Rail worker. I tend to go 0-1, unless I am aware of certain scenarios like lots of Slow to Die models, but even then 1 seems to be efficient. Shovel faster is also decent for your core, though.

Willie is someone that is seeing more action for me of late. I like the board control he brings and many opponents feel they have to try to deal with him early, so he will often get the nod for me. Torakage are gonna be great for the placement and the occasional use of smoke bombs to further veil your crew.

  4. That's right Orange County, I'm doing some substitute henching!

My normal night at Comic Quest is canceled this week due to Halloween, and my main man twenty4seven can't make his Thursday night at Merc's so I'm subbing!

    Where:

Mercenary Market: 2263 Fairview Rd. Ste P. Costa Mesa, CA 92627 Ph (949) 722-8342

When: Thursday, Nov 1 from 5pm-9pm

    See you there!

  5. We have demo games offered very often.

For example: the Wednesday Comic Quest demo day is held at least twice a month, and our weekly Malifaux play day is on Thursday nights at Mercenary Market in Costa Mesa. Between twenty4seven (Jake) and myself we'll have someone at Merc's every week for Malifaux demos, and there are few weekends where we don't have an event going on in SoCal.

Your best bet is to hop on our facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/socalmalifaux/ and let us know what days/times you are available. With so many weekly and scheduled events going, you may have a hard time not finding something to go to, or someone to demo the game for you!

If you live close to Comic Quest- shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to schedule a demo for you if Wednesday does not work out. :)

  7. Just got back from GenCon???

Waiting for your order to come in???

Can't wait to see the new plastic stuff???

Or maybe you just like hanging out nearby airports and demanding fast food at a drive thru with no vehicle.

Either way, it's time for Strategicon's final convention of the year: Gateway 2012!

And SoCal Malifaux is back to show off some of their new kit.

Where? Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Los Angeles California:

Check out http://strategicon.net/ for details, or PM me on these forums.

    Cya there!!!

  8. Welcome to Malifaux!

For economic reasons, I'd say just use starters until you get a good feel for the mechanics. It shouldn't take long for you since you have the WM/H background. I wouldn't worry too much about balance until you understand what your first purchases might be.

Now with your 2 particular boxes, Lady J would be at 19ss of minions and the Viks would be at 24ss, so you might consider at first dropping one of the Mercenaries from the Viks box to hit 18ss (so Johan) and playing a few 20ss games.

    Edit: Ninja'd! What's up Deus?
