  1. Welcome to Malifaux! For economic reasons, I'd say just use starters until you get a good feel for the mechanics. It shouldn't take long for you since you have the WM/H background. I wouldn't worry too much about balance until you understand what your first purchases might be. Now with your 2 particular boxes, Lady J would be at 19ss of minions and the Viks would be at 24ss, so you might consider at first dropping one of the Mercenaries from the Viks box to hit 18ss (so Johan) and playing a few 20ss games. Edit: Ninja'd! What's up Deus?

  4. That's why I said, "under the 6ss range"...
  5. Agree for the most part. Just to elaborate: Arcanists rely more on two things vs. other factions for the most part: 1) Synergy between models, rather than having "go to" models under the 6ss range. 2) Totems. More than any other faction, Arcanist masters tend to lean harder on totems. Combine those two ideas and it means Arcanist players have to adopt a different mindset. Our solutions to things aren't as simple as spamming really good models, because we just don't work that way. That said- I still feel we're a solid faction that appeals to people who can work with the differences outlined here.
  6. Back for a week or so before GenCon, cya Wednesday night (8/8) at 4pm!

  8. Malifaux is bar far my favorite game. Nothing else even comes close. Great mini's, good mechanics, good fluff, and well, chicks. Most other tabletop games out there are sausage-fests. For me it's: 1. Malifaux 2. Blood Bowl (300 miles of garbage) (another 300 miles of garbage) Some random GW/bad shoulders and names game.
  9. The cats are dressed as Turbo and Ozone from the movie "Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo." Because that one had a stronger community them behind it.
  10. There will be live performances. twenty4seven is hoping to perform "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger. The exhibit hall is currently occupied by cats.
  11. Octacon 2012 is here! The Con is fake, the Oct is real! Join SoCal Malifaux's mobile convention tour of Southern California! Thursday, July 19th: Free Preview Night! Join us for demos and open gaming in Orange County, at the Mercenary Market in Costa Mesa. Psst... yeah they needed to be invaded. We'll be running more demos and open gaming at FND, and we might even give away something or two! Starting at 3pm, you can meet at Octacon 2012 HQ (my house, PM for details) and hop on one of our many (two, actually) "trams" to take you to FND, where the festivities begin at 5pm, and we'll be going strong until Midnight. FND meets at a location called "The Building", so if you want to drive down yourself, you can find it at: 8125 San Fernando Blvd Sun Valley, CA 91352 Saturday: 1-Day Achievement League and Octacon 2012 Saturday we're back in Orange County, this time for our 1-Day Achievement League at Comic Quest. The 1 Day League begins at 12 noon and rages on until 6pm. Note: This is an outdoor event, so bring a drink and find some shade. Also...you might practice shooting free throws...it can help. You can locate Comic Quest at: 23811 Bridger #100 Lake Forest, CA 92630 (949) 951-9668 After our event at Comic Quest, it's time for Octacon 2012!!! We'll be back at Octacon 2012 HQ for BBQ, Karaoke, Malifaux, Puppet Wars, TV Wars, Cards Against Humanity, Blood Bowl, and whatever else you feel like playing! There is only one rule at Octacon 2012: Don't let my cats get outside! The Octacon 2012 party rages on until the last person passes out! Sunday, July 22: Closing Ceremonies Sunday morning is closing ceremonies. I don't really know what that means besides kicking you out of my house! Who knows, if you are still craving more SoCal Malifaux action, we can continue gaming at the HQ, or we might pay a visit South to Oceanside where SRDragon is running demos at Pair a Dice, or we might even see my brother Hereticofyew at GMI Games in Riverside. Because this is Octacon, and this is what I would do on a typical weekend! PM our Octacon 2012 organizer twenty4seven or check out our SoCal Malifaux Facebook for more details: http://www.facebook.com/groups/socalmalifaux/ If you miss Octacon 2012, don't worry- there's always Octaverfest in October and Octagon 2012 next year! (I know...but we can't afford new badges!) Thanks and see you there!
  12. Thanks Nix. I had an interview with Eric J on film which was oozing with spoilers, and at the very end Nathan popped in. In a panic I hit the record button fast (catching Nathan on camera is a rare thing indeed) and it overwrote the initial interview, arrgh! Anyway- I am working on recovering that footage, so let's hope for the best!
  13. There are 30mm versions and the big diorama version. Eric and Nathan can be used as Hanged.
  14. And Keltheos. But yeah, we're spoiled in SoCal and have Keltheos hanging out all the time. I'm still really blown away by these guys. With all the madness of GenCon and everything else we know they are working on, Nathan and EricJ paid the already lucky SoCal Malifaux group a visit at another one of the largest conventions of all time. And what can we say? They're just flat out good guys. From my end, when they told me they would be there- I was floored. Honestly, in over 20 years in this hobby I've never seen this caliber of support from creators and developers from any game I've ever played. And that's besides the fact that this is easily the best miniatures game I've ever played. So Nathan, EricJ, Kel- thanks again for your support, and well, just coming down to hang out at Comic-Con.
  15. That's what we love to hear! Welcome to SoCal Malifaux!
  16. Hope you guys are ready! Next week Comic-Con gets its first taste of Malifaux!
  17. Did you actually manage to get tickets to Comic-Con?!?! It's only near impossible, I know. And yeah, maybe you came for the panels, the screenings, the latest and greatest in any one of Comic-Con's multitude of genres and media appeal. Maybe you just went to catch a glimpse of your favorite celebrities, or you really wanted to know how they did Spiderman's new (aka accurate) web shooters. That's fine. Come to Comic-Con for that stuff. BUT STAY FOR THE MALIFAUX!!! That's right, your friendly-neighborhood SoCal Malifaux will be on hand, introducing "those who claim to be nerds" the one game that "The Big Bang Theory" guys forgot how to play. And it's only the best game ever! And they call themselves nerds... Here in SoCal, we're taking our dedicated, daring, and yes foolish team of Malifaux henchmen to offer you and 150,000 other people the chance to cheat fate or lose your soul. Demos will be regularly available from Thursday to Sunday 10am-7pm, and of course gaming remains open until midnight. On the night of Friday the 13th, join us for a new event we're calling "the Lightning League." 20ss worth of models is small enough to tote around with you during your panels and signings, and we may even have a crew or two for you to borrow if you forgot. Rules: http://ordosylvanus.com/ordoweb/lighting%20league%20rules%20v.2.pdf But that's not all! Friday night we have a special treat in store for those lucky enough to make it to the Con. If we're lucky...I mean, if we manage to cheat fate, we just may have a few of your favorite Malifaux founders and developers on hand! So be sure and head up to gaming Friday, July 13th after 6pm, and bring your treasured original book 1 copy with you! For more info, check http://www.comic-con.org/ or join our facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/socalmalifaux/ . See you there!!!
