  1. No, the effect ends at the closing phase. Look at the ability in long-hand and it makes more sense.

-Mimic is choosing an effect that lasts until the end closing phase

-Mimic Talent can thus be written out as "Gain one talent possessed by target model, until the end closing phase"

-Gaining The Oldest of Magic would be written as "This model is immune to .... The ability cannot be negated or removed by any means. This talent last until the end closing phase"

That is a much clearer explaination of why the Doppleganger would lose Oldest of Magic. Thank you. I wish it worked the other way but I understand and comprehend what you are saying.

  2. Disappear, proper manners, Expose Fears, these are a few of my favorite things.

I have also had some fun recently with Izamu bolstered to Df-7 and dropping double digit masks on defense, wacking the crap out of the attacker and getting healing flips off on severe damage to boot. Very nasty, adds insult to injury.

I think that Izamu would not heal from this because he inflicts damage without actually making a strike, which is not the same as making a melee strike then doing severe damage.

  3. Why all the sudden talk of a 2.0?

    Several reasons:

    1. Malifaux 2.0 was mentioned by a rules marshal.

    2. I've noticed that the boards have slowed down a little in the past monthish. Could be holiday related or it could be because the most prolific posters are posting in the hidden playtest forums instead of here.

    3. With Gencon being about 7 months away I'm making a semi educated guess that for the new book to be available at gencon it(and the cards/models which will both go through a similar process) has to be ready for printing in about 2-3 months. Thus lending weight to my thoughts that the playtest is alive and well. The time line for the book is probably something like 2 weeks to review proofs, 2 weeks for printer to make changes as noted in the review, 2 more weeks for final proofs to be approved, about 5-8 weeks in the "print que", a few days or a week for printing/binding, 3-6 weeks for the container(s) to ship. That is a rough guess of 14-20 weeks from the end of the playtest to the books/cards being printed and shipped. If I were the one in charge I'd want a month or more of "cushion" to handle the inevitable snafu's that will appear. Especially after the last promise that 70% would be available to purchase at the con. I'm not complaining, just thinking that Wyrd will be more cautious about their promises from now on.

That brings us to the playtest being done at least 18-24 weeks BEFORE Gencon. Thats roughly 4-6 months. So IF I'm correct that the playtest for book five (Special Forces? 2.0?) is going on now then this is the best time to talk about it. Later today I'll ask a friend who is a book publisher is my timeline guesses are pretty close.

Regardless of when or if 2.0 happens after the last few errata's I'm sure Wyrd will take the time to do things right. Or at least as right as humanly possible.

  4. No.

'attacks' are that group listed on page 1 of this thread.

an Attack Flip is a specific type of flip generated during a Strike Duel.

If it makes it easier for folks, until there is a 2.0, pretend any Attack Flip is read as Strike Flip.

The only time you will see the general group classified as 'attacks' capitalized is when it starts a sentence. ;)

If you see "Attack" followed by "Flip" it's referencing the standard Strike duel specifically.

It may be the 'worst design flaw' ever in the game, but it's pretty standard to work through if you keep the capitalization in mind. 'attack' = group. 'Attack' + "Flip" always = during a Strike Duel.

    /disengaging snark gene.

So we can accept this as "official rule marshal I am representing Wyrd when I say this" and deduce from your post that Malifaux 2.0 is coming at the next Gencon?

  5. Somehow i've not seen it mentionned in this thread (Brain bubbles i guess), but there's always Baby Kade (who is still a decent model, too imho) who can help position Teddy. It's quite the cinematic entrance for the fluffy fellow :)

I have two nightmare teddies, even if i am mainly a Nephilim player...there's something irresistible in teddy's concept.

Now that you've reminded me of this, my next game will have baby kade and teddy in it.

  6. Backstab says, "Push this model up to 6". If this model ends the push within 1" of an enemy model, it immediately makes a Carving knife Strike that blah blah blah."

Is it allowed to push to within 1" of an enemy and then stab something else which is not the enemy you are within 1" of? For example the Supply Wagon or a friendly model or whatever it is I want? I could choose the enemy to make a strike at but I can choose something else if I want right?

  7. Slightly different shooty list for something like Claim Jump where everything can slowly advance towards the center. Or escape and survive where you can walk down a flank and shoot anything that comes near.

Or drop the Brutal along with 1 stone and add a Stitched for GYL fun. The key here is having the doppelganger copy Zorida's wp 10 for use with the beckoner's Honeyed Words or the Stitched GYL. To take this to 30 I'd add an Insidious Madness for a quick objective grabber, another gun, and more WP shananagins.
