  1. Yep, those are some of the "why's" I cannot find anything in the rules that would speak against cheating (down) on a flipped Red Joker on a Damage flip (or any flip for that matter), but I wanted to get something more concrete, just in case I missed something in the rules.
  2. Hullo! Quicky question: if you flip the red joker on a flip (specifically damage flips, but any flip as well) can you cheat it with a lower card, given that you are allowed to cheat? Thank you!
  3. Great, thank you! @Zephir: Thank you! That was a great post. You almost had me buying a Molly crew then and there *grin*
  4. Just so I understand this correctly. Does the spirit effect only take effect after the first damage flip? Or does it take effect in time (i.e. "on hit") to be of use against the damage flip of the attack that triggered the spirit effect? I hope that made sense *grin* I'm quite confuzzled when it comes to the timing and resolution of triggers, so I hope you can give me a pointer to how this works. Thank you
  5. Depending on you ambition level, there are a lot of different ways to go about it. For a quick job, you can start with a basecoat of a very dark blue (P3 Coal Black is excellent), shade that with black, and highlight it with some Coal Black mixed with a cream-ish colour (I use P3 Menoth White Base). Blue is a good base for a pure black, while brown or olive makes it more dirty. You can even go with purple or red if you're feeling adventurous. The most important thing is to start out with a very dark shade, and then highlight by adding more of the same base colour. Another method is mixing black and grey in successive highlights over pure black, but I don't particularly care for that ... it looks wrong somehow. If you have the time though, I'd go with the recipe "Paint it Black" near the bottom of the page from The Brushthralls tutorial. It's amazing, but it also takes quite a bit of work and time to get right. I learned to paint black from this, and the results can be staggering if done right.
  6. I really tried searching, but I just cannot find the answer! O_o Hamelin the Plagued, Malifaux Rats, Nix and Rat-Catchers all give Blight Counters (both in Rising Powers and on the cards), but the Rules Manual clearly differentiates between counters and tokens, with Blight tokens explicitly defined. So, is Blight a counter or a token? Thank you in advance and apologies for the exceedingly simple question
  7. The rule on Malifaux Rats Yellow Teeth says: So wouldn't that mean that the Blight counter/token doesn't add to the damage inflicted by that attack that applied the Blight token?
  8. I'd love to see this as well. Maybe not with diagrams, but a few paragraphs on the most important points of activation order would be much appreciated.
  9. This is probably just my inexperience with Malifaux talking, but one of my friends and I agree that Sonnia can be a bit of a hard match for Kirai. Although Kirai can sacrifice a Seishin to become immune to blasts, auras and pulses, the masses of magical blasts seem to chew through her crew quite fast, since they take full damage and aren't especially resilient. On the flip-side, Kirai's crew is much faster than Sonnias, and they often have more activations.
  10. von Clausewitz is right, the Guardian is probably a better use of SS, but as Turbodog says, that's an entirely different barrel of fish, since they perform vastly different roles. I admit that I don't have much practical experience with Malifaux, but on paper, Sue does seem to have an edge over Sam. Maybe not over many other choices, but I think that Sam is the only model that you can directly compare Sue with wrt. their roles. @Turbodog: Good breakdown! I guess that Circle of Flames has too low range to help aSonnia, but it's still an option. Fire Gamin will naturally be better at that job, since that's their thing.
  11. So as I was thumbing through Twisting Fates I got to thinking about Sue as opposed to Samael. Sam is obviously better for damage output, especially against models with high Ca, but he is sorely lacking in utility. Sue on the other hand has some amazing utility that I feel I need in my Sonnia crews against Wp based attacks/abilities. Sonnia and Witchling Stalkers can put out some amazing damage, so even more damage becomes a little extraneous. Sue can also help out the Avatar of Conflagration with Ring Circle of Fire Flames by handing out even more Burning tokens. What do you guys think? Is Sue a better fit for Sonnia than her faithful sidekick Samael?
  12. Ok, ok, so I promised that I wouldn't ask anymore, but I just need a quicky yes/no on one question, and a small clarification on another. 1 Since the Avatar of Contagion does not have the The Void rule, the Avatar has to draw cards as usual; yes/no? 2 I read an old thread that asked about the interaction between Frenzied Piping, Writhing Mass and Blight counters. Since rats only have two wounds, they will die from using either of these abilities if they have one Blight token, so they aren't allowed to use these abilities. The consensus seemed to be that it was intended that you'd have to use Bask in the Plague to remove these tokens, so that the rats wouldn't gib themselves from these abilities, but that consensus was never confirmed as a ruling. So question the second is just a clarification on the above; is it intended that Bask in the Plague is necessary to use Writhing Mass or Frenzied Piping? Thank you!
  13. Just to get it completely straight then: the damage flip is based on the result of the resist duel against the first model that fails to resist, and the result of that damage flip is then the damage that all models that fail to resist take, plus one Wd for each burning counter they have on them. Is this correct? And since the damage flip is based on the first model that fails to resist, then all abilities that modify the damage flip is based off the abilities of that model, for example Hard to Wound?
  14. Yeah, that makes perfect sense. I read the section a few more times as well, so I think I'm all clear on the issue now. Thank you.
  15. Alright, last one for now, I promise :-P Ok, so the example for manifestation requirements specifically call out that Sonnia Criid casting Inferno cannot satisfy both the requirement for casting the spell and causing wounds with spells. But this confuses me a bit; how does this work? Casting Inferno and causing wounds happen at different times during the round, so I have to choose when I cast Inferno whether to have it satisfy the "cause wounds" requirement at the Start Closing Phase, or the "successfully cast Inferno" requirement immediately upon casting the spell? Thank you
  16. I'm reading through Twisting Fates, and a few of the avatars spells have AR in their spell descriptions. What does this mean? After Resolution? If I have missed it in the book(s) please direct me to where I can find it. Thank you
  17. Hi! I'm a tad confused about this part: "If at least one model lost its resist duel, this model performs a 2/3/4 Damage Flip which cannot be cheated". Does this mean that all it takes for this spell to damage all enemies in the pulse is for one model to lose the resist duel? If so, then is the damage flip one for each model damaged, or just a single one that damages all affected model the same amount? If it is the latter, then which model is chosen as the "basis" for that damage flip, wrt. modifiers on damage flips, such as Hard to Wound. Thank you!
  18. Thank you. I got confused about sending mispack-mails to the webmaster...
  19. Hi, I got my first mispack (yay :/), and wanted to report it to get a replacement, but the contact form on the store doesn't work! The captcha just keeps rejecting me, even though I enter the right code. How do I get in touch with Wyrd when the form doesn't work? Thank you
  20. That makes sense. So going for a quick manifestation and reducing the pool does work.
  21. Seeing as Fire Gamin come three to a blister, I'll have the opportunity to try out going with a pool of 6 stones. I have a feeling that it's just my noobness bleeding through, since I can understand that you don't need a full pool of stones for Sonnia as long as you have the finesse of not using Confiscated Lore at every turn. As for the Desperate Merc, I like your take on their presence :-P The Watcher could make sense as well, which I'll mull over a bit more. But the Desperate Merc is a pretty neat fit. I'll be ordering the last bits I need soon, and I'm sure I'll report more once I get it on the table. Thanks for your help so far! Please, if anyone should think of something new, don't hesitate *grin*
  22. Thank you all for the answers! A little from column A, and a little from column B, is the best answer. There aren't many tournaments around, so it's mostly "casual" games. I also feel that what carries Malifaux is the atmosphere and the setting, so building without an eye to the setting is not something I'm going for. But then again, something like the Desperate Mercenary does seem to fit in everywhere, so he might be an option, although it does stretch the theme a bit. Good point. The goal is to be able to manifest quickly, so you're right that these two points could be spent better elsewhere. Also very good point. Dropping the Proxy and a Fire Gamin gives me another six points, three of which will go towards a third hound. Any suggestions for the remaining three points? While I'm still very much a greenhorn in Malifaux proper, I can see exactly why this would be a more preferable setup. I'd much rather go for something that keeps with Sonnias themes, and not necessarily something that guns for winning tournaments. Thank you for the feedback! I have definitely learned something, but if you'd be so kind as to stick around and help out with something a little more themey, I'd be chuffed So, we've arrived at this: Sonnia Criid -- ? Pool + Sonnia, Avatar of Conflagration [2ss] Fire Gamin [4ss] Guild Hound [3ss] Guild Hound [3ss] Guild Hound [3ss] Witchling Handler [7ss] Witchling Stalker [4ss] Witchling Stalker [4ss] Which leaves another three points to play around with. So far as I can see, the Desperate Mercenary is maybe the best use of the points. That allows for an initial SS pool of 8 stones, and an easy Witchling Stalker if I should happen to be in that mood. I could also see why such a character would show up wrt. the setting, so I'm somewhat mollified there Another Guild Hound could also be an option, but then I have a large number of them, and that seems like a poor idea. The Watcher is more of a Hoffman thing, so I'm not all that sold on it, theme-wise. A Witchling Stalker or Fire Gamin reduces the SS pool to 6 stones, which is a bit low I think. Any new thoughts?
  23. Mh, good point. I'd glossed over that totems are removed when the master manifests.
