  1. I liked the idea of the nurse dosing up the dogs. Is this tactic not as valid as it seems?

Well.... I have never tried it, but I would say that I like having corpses around when the dogs die rather than them getting sac'ed.

I think that many people will immediately say that nurses are horrible and you should never take them.

I would word it more like this... I have never really gotten nurses to do things that make me feel they were worth the points, so I very seldom take them unless they have a very specific purpose. (I like one with McMourning Avatar sometimes)

I would also say that there is always the possibility that most people have simply not figured out a great way of using them and if you already own them do not let a forum talk you out of seeing for yourself.

Everything here is an OPINION. My post as well as others. Everyone plays different and in different environments.

Imagine if you could be the person that taught others a great use for the nurse.

(Then you should tell ONLY me what the use was... :) )

  2. While picking up a hoard of cheap minions for out activating and putting all the weight on Mcmourning's shoulders is not a bad way to go about it, it does leave you in a bit of a tight spot if McMourning gets overwhelmed and leaves you with nothing that can pick up the slack.

That's one of the great things about dogs. You can take FIVE and still have PLENTY of points for beef!

I like Dead Rider for dragging a wayward enemy close to McMourning to chop it up. By having the dogs activate first, you pretty much get your pick of models for the Rider to bring back to you.

  3. He is slow without help from his crew.

He does nothing to boost or help any other members of his crew.

Is he awesome when in melee range and is he very hard for many models to kill? Of course. Individually, there are not a ton of models that can stand toe to toe.

Kill his crew... Get VP... Avoid him.

We've been told similar for Chompy for 2+ years...

And as has been said by myself and others here, he can die to good models. I have killed with with LadyJ and had him killed by viks and Chompy.

I believe someone else said they killed him with LadyJ.

  4. To reply to the Immune To Influence thing from my first post, don't underestimate our Effigy. He may not survive long, but he can screw up a turn or two for your opponent if played correctly.

    "Played Correctly"...

That's sort of a loaded phrase IMO. Not particularly fond of what it implies about players that have seldom had the Carrion Effigy do much for them.

If I were to reword your above statement, I might suggest that it is more often the case that:

"he can screw up a turn or two for your opponent if they allow him to get ridiculously close to their models for some insane reason."

  5. I'm looking forward to eventually using my Som'er crew against someone running Izamu. I can't see anything about his three staple models (bayou gremlins, piglets, and mosquitoes) that makes them any less effective against Izamu than against just about anything else for what they can reliably do. Plus, sacking a mosquitoe to, in most cases, make the opponent discard his entire hand before throwing a dozen attacks at Izamu should be entertaining.

He is not terrifying and must target a single model at a time. I am not particularly familiar with that sort of gremlin crew, but I actually think that a gremlin gunline would wipe him off the board simply by number of attacks. Accepting that you will not do more than 1 point of damage most of the time, the question becomes, how quickly can I hit him 10 times?

---------- Post added at 11:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:41 AM ----------

Maybe Izamu gets super over powered with Yan, and that's just not how I've seen him?

He stays the same... He just comes back. :)

  6. So if i see i'm playing against izamu and i'm using misaki, i'll take kill protogee and laugh all the way to the vp bank.

Unless you have already killed Soul Porter, the opponent should Soul Cage Izamu before he dies, stealing Kill Protege from you.

If you HAVE killed Soul Porter, not only is Kill Protege available to you, but you just cut Izamu's speed in half... Soul Porter, at least in games I have played with and against him, has been a real linchpin for the crew.

  7. for the same cost as Rogue Necromancy/Dead Rider. Neither of those models come CLOSE to his killing and surviving capability.

RN is a bad comparison as his SS cost is silly. He is a summons... Period.

I would agree that Dead Rider cannot kill or survive as well, BUT his purpose is SO MUCH MORE than that. (And he is pretty good at killing stuff too!)

Izamu has one role... Period. Killer Tank. He offers NO other utility to your crew. For 10 points, a model with no other utility had BETTER be FANTASTIC at its single role.

    He walks 4...

With Soul Porter(And therefore Yan Lo) he can haul armor. Kill Soul porter. Stay away from Izamu.

I've had him killed and occasionally soul-caged him because he was close to death and I wanted to prevent Kill Protege. With Yan Lo, he comes back, which can be frustrating for my opponent... No doubt.

I've killed him with LadyJ and had him killed when I was playing him by Viks that swapped out and by Chompy. (With the help of the cursed Insidious Madness)

Still won most games with him to this point, but to this point most of my wins have had more to do with the surprise of my opponents at the speed with which Yan Lo with some decent Chi and Izamu could be in their midst wreaking havoc. And to be fair, Yan Lo has tended to be the true beast. No doubt fed by Izamu, but once Yan hits boiling point, he just explodes the enemy crew.

I have confidence in our players to come up with ways of more consistently handling him better than what has happened to this point.

He is a beast... No doubt.

But there are plenty of beasts in the game and clever people have thought of all sorts of things to take them on.

Outcasts have pinged him quite a bit with Convicts and ronin having him at half wounds before any sort of melee engagements.

A matchup I have not had yet that makes me worry is Sonnia... The problem I envision with her is that she can be nuking the rest of the crew and dropping templates on him over and over to lower him over time until she is ready to focus him.

Taking out the Soul Porter off a template or two and suddenly Izamu is half as fast. Thats a pretty big deal.

  8. My new favorite play mode.

We have been practicing a bit for Adepticon and I have to say that I REALLY like team games. Its like the best of all worlds for me. I get to see more models and "in game" hear someone else's view of what is happening and what could be tried.

Its also fun to have 3 other people to talk to rather than just 1. And while we still try, winning and losing feel less important to me than the overall vibe of the game.

We have a lot of things to learn about team play... Primary of which is how long it can take.

When the game ended due to time, we had killed BOTH Victorias, Librarian and some other model and had lost only a Grave Spirit.(Vik player had some TERRIBLE cards and flips which did not help him) The next turn we would have likely tabled one of the opponents and taken over complete control of the Strategy as well as scoring full two points on one of the schemes with the other likely soon.

But since it ended when it did, we lost... 5-0 :)

Still had a lot of fun. (But dang, you need to get your VP turns 1-3)

  9. I have never used that ability and think she is great.

Whats interesting right now is that so many people are playing living crews again that she is lessened a bit. (So many 10T)

Once she is regularly facing non-living again, her "slow every non-living enemy within 8 inches" will shine.

    ANd removing summoning-slow is awesome.

And standing behind Izamu and healing him is awesome.

And collecting Chi for Yan Lo is awesome.

  10. @ Gruesome, even if your opponent kills/paralyzes the soul porter yan lo should end up with Izamu's card on him and able to summon again if he has the corpse counters and if you're facing something that drops them thats a good chance in his 2 activations he would have created some counters himself.(from killing a lot)

Interesting. Had to reread the relic ability. It does not have anything to do with being killed. It just says "removed from game". Good point. :)

  11. I might try it. Seems gimmicky. But I'll try it. doesn't all that stuff the nurse does end up sacrificing the model it affected?

That's why you need to Soul Cage it from Soul Porter so that it just dies and drops corpse counters before the end of the turn.

Of course, if some industrious sort sees you have a nurse and Izamu in play, they might consider trying to paralyze or kill the Soul Porter as soon as the Nurse casts on Izamu. You still gonna get hit in the face hard that turn, but hopefully he is gone then.

  12. Ah! Cool so that would also explain the trigger on his gun, that gets him a chi for killing an enemy model... Which would always happen anyway (if within 8") except that the trigger doesn't say controlled, so killing mindless zombis with the trigger would work...

    thanks again!

Well, to this point, I have used that trigger for more than that. Basically if I get a kill within 8 inches and hit that trigger, I get 2 chi.

It does not say anywhere that there is a limit of 1 chi per model from all "sources".
