  1. Bad Things Happen!

The gate to Malifaux remains open. Mercenaries, Adventurers, Heroes and Bureaucrats are pouring through from our world. Alliances are being made, lines are being drawn and now you must choose a side and fight.

On the 27th of October NJ Gamer will be hosting a Malifaux tournament at The Warstore Weekend. The Warstore Weekend runs from October 26th to the 28th at the Crowne Plaza in the Meadowlands, NJ. It will be a great weekend of gaming in Northern NJ.

Again the tournament is on the 27th of October, which is a Saturday. Registration begins at 12:30PM with a start time of 1PM.

    Onto the details!

This will be a 35 SS Scrap played over 3, 90 minute rounds. For the tournament players must choose a faction. Between rounds players can change their forces but must stay within the same faction. The tournament will be run using the standard Gaining Grounds organized play rules. This will be a Fixed Shared Strategy Tournament using the Domination Scoring Format. The most recent errata will be used and all current books are allowed. Proxies are not allowed and models that haven’t been released yet cannot be used. If you have any questions you can contact the TO at Patrick.cussen@gmail.com.

  2. I thought the tournament was very well run and had a good time as well. I played Colette and took top spot in the event.

The only thing that could be adjusted was like PP said the competetiveness of the second scenario. You could get 7 points in both without ever having to engage your opponent in combat.

Also I am not sure that using a victory point system is a valid way to track a malifaux tournament. For instance. The second place player and myself were tied at the end of the three rounds with 23 points.

To determine the winner between us they used strength of schedule, which in the end cost the perdita player the victory because he had shutout two of his opponents, while I had only shut out one of mine. You could argue I played better opponents, but you can also argue he was better then I was.

you would need to give me time to figure out a better way to do it, but it would be hard.

I'm glad you enjoyed the tournement overall.

The second scenerio is something that I get mixed responses about, I intend to either change it or replace it at some point but I just need to come up with something better...

VP... This is one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't things. We use VP for two major reasons. First VP are integral in the game of malifaux, its one of the few games that you can win and not have any models left on the feild. Secondly statistically speaking it gives more variation then any other method od scoring, so therefore you should have less ties. There is probably a better way to score a game in malifaux, but for the life of me I can't think of a better way that still fits, and I've given it alot of thought.

But anyways. If you enjoyed playing this year be sure to come back next year for an even bigger and better tournement!

On a side note, someone who played in the tournement lost a model, I have it with me. If its yours let me know and I'll pop it in the mail.

  3. The Wyrd Battlefoam bag is a very nice bag, it allows you to store everything for the game in one spot except for a tape measure. They do sell additional foam trays on their website. While expensive they make a great product, I highly recommend their foam.

There are other options out there, most of them are cheaper the Battlefoam, one company that I've had pretty good luck with is Sabol. They make wonderful, inexpensive bags, however there foam isnt all that good.

Basically it comes down to how much your willing to spend, I'd set a budget then work from there.

  4. As the title of this post suggests, this is going to be about the upcoming Malifaux Tournements at the WarStore Weekend October 22nd thru the 24th.

As it stands now, there will be a tournement Friday at 10, as well as one on Saturday at 10. So far they are going to be pretty standard 35 point SS tournements. What I'm looking for is ideas or things that the community would like to see in a tournement.

  5. When useing Testors Dull coat, make sure you shake the can alot. Shake it for what you think is long enough, and then shake it some more.

For protecting my models I prefer Krylon Crystal Clear Flat, it works well and is very inexpensive, and provides excelant protection.

  6. If I was going to run this tournament here is what I'd do.

Everyone purchases a box from your FLGS, randomly match up your particapants in two's. Each pair plays a game at the lower of the two point values possible with the boxes. This goes on for however many rounds is nessacary to get a winner.

I'd also probably remove the restrictions on number of soulstones for this event.
