  1. I've recently been playing all my game in a small shop in the New Jersey suburbs of Philadelphia, but I'm looking to play more often. If anyone knows any good spots or tournaments nearby Philly, myself and a few friends might be willing to travel and stop in. If anyone is interested in making the trip to my store, I can provide more information. Our best night seems to be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday so far, but I usually don't bother going unless I have a game set up ahead of time.

  2. but the wait is over and I cant wait to see what kind of trouble I will be in when trying to base them to use as the coryphee and the duet...

I can actually help with this one. MAGNETS. I got a pack of 100 tiny little N42 magnets on the internet for about $5. And I mean these things are SMALL. They're like 5mm in diameter. The worked wonders for by my Coryphee and for Ramos' spiders. Glue one to the feet of the model itself, and glue another to the underside of the base. Works like a charm. With about 2lbs of attractive force between the magnets, they're powerful enough to keep even tall models standing, while still remaining easily removable with some sliding.

Good luck, and have fun gluing!

  3. I'm basically talking to myself here but idealistically I would want something with a post apocalyptic priest/human oriented kinda set up.

You might try looking into Nicodem The Undertaker. He's one of my favorite masters. He's basically a support caster that reanimates undead to do the bulk of his fighting.

Another alternative would be Leveticus The Steampunk Necromancer. While I've never played him, I think his flavor might fit what you're looking for a bit better. However, I must warn you, I've heard tell that he's one of the most difficult Masters in the game to master (no pun intended). In my opinion, he is certainly not a Master for beginners.

From the Neverborn (My favorite faction) Pandora might fit the bill. She's a great master, but again, is complicated to learn.

From the guild, maybe Lady Justice? She has that whole "Holier than thou" sense of righteousness and determination thing going on, but she's more of a melee artist than a priest.

I'm all over it like drunk on ugly.

I REALLY have to remember to use that saying! XD

  4. Check the Errata. The piece with Companion activates first. Then any number of pieces within 6" that meet the Companion requirement (Showgirls, in this case) may activate after the first model has finished.

Thanks for clearing that up, but that still doesn't answer my other question: Doesn't this activation sequence end up with Collette back where Performer 1 started the turn off?

  5. Unless I missed something, I think you can only choose one companion for the Mannequin. Therefore you can't activate coryphee1, 2, Collette, and Cassandra simultaneously, you must pick one.

I also believe this leaves Collette in the corner of the board where the Performers had originally started out, but I may somehow have misread your post.

  6. I... need to go buy kirai...*runs off*

Dude seriously, this is NASTY. I have an extensive collection of Rez minions because I'm a Nic player, but this is exactly the type of Brawl support I've been looking for for him.

I believe someone's already said it, but, DAAAAAAAAAAMN!

  7. You don't NEED book 2. It just has extra rules and extra models. The core book contains all of the core game mechanics that you need to play. Though, I do recommend printing off the errata that Wyrd has kindly supplied us with. It clears up some of the wonky stuff and typos, but is limited to book 1 right now.

That said, Rising Powers is an AMAZING purchase. Very worth the money if for the fluff alone which I am just now working my way through.

    Sonia v Kirai -

I actually think these two masters would be a pretty decent match up if you can both learn their respective SWOT (Strengths Weaknesses and Opportunistic Tactics :P). From what I've seen, Sonia has some pretty good spellcaster hate, and some of her explosions and magical attacks can make Kirai's crew cry. That said, Kirai's units are reasonably expendable. When played right, she can usually count on summoning a good amount of reinforcements, sometimes behind enemy lines to screw with their opponents' lists.

If the wife needs any tips on playing Kirai, I HIGHLY recommend attacking the Resurrectionist forum where you will find and AMAZING tactica for Kirai. It will teach you the ins and outs of her starting crew and additional models you may consider buying later. As for Sonnia, I can't be of as much help. The Guild is the only faction that I have NOT bought models from, but Sonnia may have a tactica as well.

Other than that, it sounds like you're golden. Go nuts!

  8. I honestly think Myranda is an auto-include for any Marcus list. Her flexibility is far too important to replace with anything else.

Molemen are huge support for Marcus. Run at least one. But be mindful that I would use this model purely defensively.

Don't bother with Silurids. As a mostly Neverborn player, I've never been impressed with them.

The Shikome (if it is what I'm thinking it is, I don't have the Rising Powers models memorized yet), sounds like a good buy. Maybe even two of them.

Rogue Necromancy - No. I would not include this model in a Marcus list. It is a killing machine, true. It is expensive, also true. For the same price you could buy Myranda and a Mole Man. I see the RN as being a "win more" model for rezzers (summoned late game when there is nothing more to do but win more than you already are), not a combat slave for Marcus. I feel like you would get much more mileage out of those 10ss buy hiring just about anything else.

  9. This came up in another thread:

I think I just found a HUGE snag with linking to Cassandra because of Celebrity.

Guess what, Link is an Action that targets the model you are trying to link to! Link isn't a ranged strike or a spell attack, it's an Action! Celebrity makes her immune to Link!

During the time Cassandra has Celebrity is probably when you are most likely going to Link a Mannequin with a Mirrors Aura. In the game I have played my opponents like to try and kill Cassandra first.

So I got all ready to quote the rules on attacks and then I realized that didn't actually prove anything. It just more clearly defined what the problem is.

As you can see, Link would only be considered an attack were it targetting an enemy. As it an action that does not inflict damage, or cause a resist dual and it targets an ally, it is not considered an attack.

The big snag is that though Link is not considered an ATTACK, it still TARGETS. Celebrity makes Cassandra immune to (it would seem) EVERYTHING that targets her that is not either a ranged strike or a spell attack.

    Hmmm.

So, this would mean that friendly models cannot heal her, buff her, or otherwise help her in any way? In fact, it means Collette cannot use her (1)Illusionist on Cassandra until after the second turn!

Perhaps the ability was intended to state that she cannot be targetted by enemy models unless it is with a ranged strike/spell attack?

“In Malifaux, an attack is defined as:

    • Any Talent, Action, or Spell targeting an enemy

    model.

    • Any Talent, Action, or Spell that inflicts damage or

requires a Resist Duel targeting a friendly or

    neutral model.

    • All Auras and Pulses that inflict damage or require

a Resist Duel are also considered attacks.”

  11. CC? Casting Cost? Not sure what acronym you're using there. But no, I go after all sorts of stuff with them and that spell. They are a 4 Ca to start with, which, compared to the Ca or Cb of a lot of other pieces, is fairly average, so it's much like any other attack. And you only need a 10 to get the spell off, so it's pretty easy to do that with a 6 or higher of any suit. So, it works really good for harassing an opponent. Often can make them burn at least 1 card out of their hand just to defend against the Duel. The awesome thing is that it only costs you cards to cast the spell (unlike Colette's other spells), while you gain Soulstones if you kill stuff with it. So using 2-3 Doves + Colette all in one turn can easily kill a unit with just Magician's Duel spells alone.

Yes, Casting Cost is what I meant by CC. And you make a good point. In the grand scheme of things, attacking with a stat of 4 isn't all that bad. It's not up to the strength of some other dedicated offensive units, like Cassy, but it's not terrible either. And since they must resist with CA, which is usually not the highest of stats for Minions anyway. I can now see a few birds doing some serious damage, not to mention being able to warp another unit like Cassy or the Corys into combat after you've bombarded them with birds. I'm definitely going to have to try this out.

Why do I get the image of the Cuccos from Zelda swarming one of the units on the battlefield :P

    Probability of weak damage

    =P(weak damage)

    =1-P(no weak damage)

    =1-P(1st not weak & 2nd not weak)

=1-P(1st not weak)*P(2nd not weak given 1st not weak)

    =1-(34/54)*(33/53)

    =0.608

    =60.8%

Any chance you could crunch the numbers on Collette's :tomes :tomes :tomes trigger?

  12. You give some pretty good advice, thanks! I had originally tried making them blow up on my opponent's forces, but that didn't work out too well for me. I just ended up bleeding soul stones.

Now...the one question I have had with them though.....Can the Doves cast Disappearing Act or Discharge Soulstone since they don't have "Use Soulstone" themselves? Both of those spells require you to discard a SS in order to use the spell. I find it much more useful to use Magician's Duel anyways, but I'm curious how the ruling on the other two work out.

I would expect that they cannot, for the same reasons that the Manequins cannot use their ability that says, "Discard a SS or Sacrifice this model," to discard the soulstone unless they have used (0) Soul Dancer on the same turn.

When using Magician's Duel with them, how much do you worry about the CC? Would you only use this tactic when you can get a Master by themselves? Or is it worth flying into a group of enemies just to get this off?

  13. This thread has been incredibly helpful and informative. Someone should sticky this as an errata thread as Collette doesn't yet have one.

Could someone post some tricks for using the Doves? The first time I tried using them I feel like they didn't really live up to their potential, but then I don't know the best way to use them, so any help would be appreciated.

  14. Shared escape and survive basically comes down to a firefight. That said, you brought more raw killing power right off the bat. If you're opponent wasn't transposing their units, they will have been in trouble right off the bat. Especially since they can't target either your teddy or juju with transposition. I honestly think that you're opponent didn't list stack well enough. They might have been able to take it with some schemes like Reclaim Malifaux, and things that didn't involve trying to overpower you. That said, it sounds like you fared pretty well. Congratulations.

  15. Don't buy two cherubs, you only need one.

But the rest is right. Get your young nephs and waldgeists. They have good synergy for Lilith. I wouldn't say the Waldgeists are auto includes, but there are times when they come in extremely useful.

For the dreamer, just wait. But I've seen Alps used to good effect. Maybe pick them up when they come out. A totem is always a good buy as well.

  16. Replace 'lawn' with swamp...

Can you imagine it now? Big Z on her porch with a gremlin aiming its shotgun at some Earthsiders... screaming "Get your damn shoes off my swamp!"

It's funny because Som'er Teeth is specifically able to join Brawl crews with Zorida the Hottie.

I can see them violating rule number one of owning a house: No upholstery on the front lawn! :P
