One of the new things for Bayou Gremlins are that they must declare a trigger when attacking I can remember 3 of the triggers that were named but not the fourth here goes...
Ram - Dumb Luck
Crow - push 4" closer to enemy model
Tome - Woops
It's this:
:rams - dumb luck
:crows - shoot your friend
:masks - push toward your target
:tomes - extra blast markers

So, does this mean that named crews, like the Ortegas and the LaCroix, will suddenly all be able to use soulstones (and receive upgrades) like they're the Showgirls? While other crews are just fielding unnamed minions numbers 1 - 4, except for maybe one or two, like Sam or Sebastian for example?
There'd be no reason not to take all named models at that point.
I can think of lots of reasons, not the least of which are: SS cost of named models, limited SS pool to share between all of them, the lessened power of SS use in duels.
-
So far. If we're upgrading the current henchmen to masters, then that's more named models with two versions. Being able to keep VonSchill, henchman, running along side henchwoman Hannah, in a Brawl, under two masters, would be phenomenal. And it's already supported under the Brawl rules. The only problem so far has been that there is only one henchman per special force, so no second henchman could be hired.
except von schill isn't a henchman anymore, he is a master so there is only one version of von schill in 2nd ed. Henchman is the title given to non-master named models (can use SS apparently, can lead a small crew, get 2 upgrades)

People keep saying this but just for repititions sake: your "1e" models will still work in 2e. They'll just get new stat cards. Once again, YOUR MODELS WILL NOT GO AWAY. Buy whatever you want and play it for the 3-6 months until 2e is properly out. And then get new CARDS, not new MODELS, and keep playing them. There's zero reason to wait if you are set and primed to play Malifaux now. You can play tomorrow. You can play those same models in a year. You don't have to buy new models for 2e.
I do want to mention that 2 models are, in fact, going away. Per the Through the Breach podcast, Minion Hamelin and Misaki are no longer going to be in the game.

The most important part is obviously the fact that Gremlins are now their own faction. Precisely what true original inhabitants of Malifaux deserve. More Gremlin masters, more inbred goodness!

I was hoping the forum would be open already for gratuitous speculation and wishlisting

F'in Coppelius. that's what he's called around these parts. (at least by me)

here you go, Ratty weighs in down the page, post #8.
I personally hate the ruling, but can't please everyone.
-
have you tried the malifaux wyrd store? they have most of the cards for sale.
not even close to most, they don't even have all of the book 2 cards up there. I've been in need of a pigapult card for over 2 years

Finally,
The triumphant return of Malifaux to Game Theory. After a much too long hiatus. I am back in the game so to speak, and ready to revive the game in Raleigh.

Well, if Wong is being Obeyed by say, Zoraida - then Wong's bounce fails as Obey can't target masters.
Just to be clear, it wouldn't affect Wong either.
*Df/Wp () Bounce Magic: After this model loses the Resist Duel for a Spell targeting it, the caster and this model both suffer the spells effects. Use the difference in casting and resist totals if a difference is required. The bounced Spell has no effect on either model if the caster could not be affected by it.

I think you mean March 30th

Like everyone else has said, its very hard to quantify a set strategy. a lot depends on the crew you are playing. I play my hand a lot differently if I'm using Gremlins than if I am playing Lucius.
Every model in my gremlin crew is expendable and I will often set up a juicy target at the end of a turn so the next turn I can get a feel for my opponents hand before I drop a big attack.
In a recent game, I had a model that was the picked for kill protege. I was set up with a mosquito next to an expensive enemy model. I had a red joker that I wanted to use for parasitic infestation, so I moved my model that was the target of kill protege out so my opponent would attempt to take him out before I could move him away. I cheated a pretty high card on defense just to see if he was holding anything good, he wasn't. and one bad SS flip later, von shill was a mosquito.
So really, there are a lot of odd cases that may come up which won't fit with a normal rule.
I'm surprised no one has come here declaring that you should always hold the BJ, I personally never hold the BJ (unless I was to play rasputina, which I don't.) Sure you don't have to worry about flipping it, but it is a wasted resource. And to me, I'd rather have a memorable fail, than a sure success.

I think he has gone from a "how can I lose?" master to a much more positive play experience for both sides. I plan on using him in a 30 SS tournament this weekend. Just like pre-errata, I plan on having candy and Kade, maybe some sorrows, and alps in reserve to use. the only models that became obsolete for my crew seem to be the canine remains.
As far as being restricted to one type of crew, that was something that people always said about Hamelin. He was always better with "his" models, but he is much more fun and challenging to use with a mix of models. I think you will find that he isn't cuddled all that badly at all.

but remember, the stolen have an ability that says they still put out a rat when they are sacrificed

I was looking to place an order for a pigapult stat card. Lo and Behold, no pigapult stat card in the online store. all of the rest of the book 2 gremlin stuff is there, no 'pult.
Interesting. I know the book 3 stuff is missing but the book 2 stuff is 2 years old now and should be available.

As I recall you can activate triggers or any other effects from disengaging strikes. I could have sworn it was in the FAQ but I just had a quick look and couldn't find it.
I believe you mean CAN'T activate triggers or effects
-
yeah, don't know the story. don't have the book. I just like to complain that cool stuff can't be taken with lucius (exorcist)
-
He has a beard..........what more do you need?
Special forces (Elite Division) so I can use him in a Lucius crew
-
I wish my opponents would bring Jack more often against my gremlins. it's like free vp and a 9 pt penalty to my opponent
-
well, I don't think they are mercenary, so Vics can't hire them and neither can any out of faction (except zoriada because of WP). Hamelin can hire them because they are HT1. Som'er can because they are vermin. That should be the only masters that can take them.
edit: I forgot Levi, If I remember correctly he should be able to take them too. Although they don't do anything for him that a canine remains wouldn't do better.
edit2: actually I think Levi's restrictions are undead soulless and contruct only, so no rat. but the crew creator lets som'er and hamelin take them
-
If Levi's scheme is a problem for you, I'd like to point out that due to the specific wording Leveticus cannot get the bodyguardscheme, his own scheme is a harder version of bodyguard (additional restriction of dieing 4 times), whereas other masters just can take the bodyguardscheme as a usually relatively doable scheme.Yes Levi's scheme is relatively easy compared to some other Master specific schemes, but he also in practice gets one less general scheme (Even Steal Relic with Ophelia is doable in comparison with how the Bodyguard restriction off never going off the table works). And when people 'for fun' decide to end the tournament with Slaughter, and imposed schemes Bodyguard/Assasinate you really get a feel that having an easy master specific scheme isn't worth the hassle losing bodyguard as an option presents.
I actually don't have a problem with levi's scheme, I was just using it as an example of an easy scheme. My main issue is with the schemes that are nearly impossible to complete. How many players have you seen ever choose "Pig Food"? I've played Gremlins for quite a while and I've never had a situation where I thought I could achieve that scheme.
I'd like to see 2 schemes for each master and hanchman, a hard and an easy one. But there is a difference between hard and impossible, and Seamus and Somer fall into the impossible realm. I wouldn't take "Pig Food" if it was worth 4 VP or for that matter "My Little Friend"
-
I'm with the Nerd.
The biggest problem I see is the schemes (some are ridiculously easy, and others are down right impossible.)
Easy:
Sabotage
Kidnap
Levi's (if you don't achieve this you've probably lost anyway)
Down right impossible:
Seamus'
Som'er Teeth's
And as far as models go, there are very few that are undercosted (stitched, maybe coppelius) but there are quite a few that are overcosted (Ice Golem, Warpig, Hans, Bishop, JuJu, Malifaux Child) I'd love to see a reworking of the point values to make the lesser used models more attractive.
Cards in pdf format...Do you want it?

You buy the book, you scan the book, you upload the PDF.
It's the same thing, one just takes a little more effort. And I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find it has already been done somewhere on the interwebz.
Disclaimer: I have not, in fact, looked. But seeing as every other game system has pirated rulebooks floating the internet, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that the M2E book is already out there.
I can't imagine that much revenue would be lost by making official PDFs for purchase. The asshats that pirate the stuff are going to anyway, and it basically costs Wyrd nothing to make a digital copy available for purchase for those of us that would gladly pay. I'm sure the profit on a PDF of the M2E rulebook at even $20 would be much higher than the printed one at $40.
