  1. Solkan, thanks for responding. I didn't realize you could officially use photocopied cards. That's helpful, but unfortunately the cards in the book are not the right size and would take reformatting and/or artsy-craftsy fixes to make work.

Also, I am not sure what you're trying to prove with the Warmachine reference. At the end of the day, one can still purchase cards, right? I was only using Privateer Press as an example to display that cards can be made available and I personally think they should be.

Finally, I would prefer the option to buy the cards or have a digital (properly sized) version I could easily print and cut. That's all.

In either case, I appreciate your input. I'll be printing the cards soon. Thanks!

  2. I cannot find Wave 1 cards for Guild and I just dumped a bunch of money into a counts-as Sonnia Criid crew. I intended on using the male multi-part kit, the original Sonnia box (which I just purchased) and some other bits to design my own Renegade-Guild Crew, but I have hit a brick wall because I can't get the cards I need.

Wyrd, if you have opted to stop printing cards then I think you've made a terrible mistake for the following reasons:

1.) Cards get lost, stolen, or destroyed. If my only option is to replace them by buying a new model kit, then I won't.

2.) Your game is the most character-driven I have ever seen on a tabletop. Don't punish me for being creative and wanting to design my own characters with your model kits (new and old).

3.) If Privateer Press can continue to print faction decks, then so can you.

As someone who has been with you since the relative beginning, I beg you to make your cards  readily available. I would even been willing to pay for a PDF version that I have to print and cut out myself.

    Thanks for your time,

    John

  3. Thanks for the kind words, all. The deep shadows are a stylistic thing for me. I like the vivid, cartoonish look that comes from extreme shading. However, not everyone feels the same - it tends to be a painting style that divides folks into folks who love it or hate it.

I am glad you addressed this because as I looked at them, I thought they had a definitive cartoon feel. I was going to respond, but thought - if that hadn't been your intention - I might offend.

I think your work is unique and vivid. The cartoonish schemes tend to feel more like that of a graphic novel than a Scooby-Doo re-run. It's an appropriate style, I think. They look great. Awesome work!

  4. Thanks. Fluff wise it should be a Nicodem like modell on a palanquin carried by mindless zombies.

Ahh...I see. Well, that pretty much crosses all of my suggestions off the list. Sorry.

tho, i'd look for a different model on top...

    or,

and get a pack o' gw skeletons to carry it...

I like Mr. Swigs' suggestions, but I must opt for the Charon model as my personal fave. That thing is awesome! Nice finds, man.

  5. Warning: I know absolutely nothing about the Avatar book or what Nicodem's model is supposed to look like. You said "Avatar of Decay" and "50mm base", so I am thinking its got to be some kind of big and nasty undead thing. Here we go...

This is great for a bloated, nasty look. Not sure how big this guy is, but Reaper models at $10.00+ tend to be at least large enough for 40mm bases.

This one doesn't look even remotely Stem-Punk-ish, but the model is awesome! Maybe with some modeling attention, it could be made to be more....suitable.

    How about a werewolf zombie?

More of a specter look on this one.

This thing is the epitome of decay, although it will need some serious modeling on the base to make it large enough for a 50mm.

Not sure how big this one is either, but its worth a look.

The chainmail puts this one out of place, but tis an awesome piece!

A little Cryx for you PP lovers...

    http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cryx/warcasters/lich-lord-asphyxious

This thing is incredibly cool, but you'll have to pay the price

    http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cryx/warcasters/lich-lord-terminus

This might be a bit too mechanical for even Nicodem, but..

Anyway...that's all I got. There's a ton of stuff out there. Hope I helped.

  6. I prefer working with plastic. The problem for a game like Malifaux is that plastic is extremely expensive to set up but then once it is it's very cheap to mass manufacture. That makes it ideal for minis which you're going to sell a lot of. Check out Mantic for a great example, their big unit models are plastic, their characters and small unit models are resin or metal. Malifaux has no big units which doesn't make it cost effective to produce in plastic.

More seriously metal is more expensive than plastic and if wyrd started plastic, they might end up making bigger unit model. Taking away why most of use love Malifaux

You guys bring up a great point, a fact that is likely the reason behind no-plastics from Wyrd. And I totally agree with the both of you. If Malifaux becomes an amass your army type of game, I am out. It's great as it stands now.

  7. Forget both metal AND plastic! We want over-priced and poorly made resin casts. They can can call it "Wyrd Finecast" and indiscriminately raise the prices of everything in the product line!

In all seriousness, I feel you, Cambrius. I too am a "plastic is easier to chop up and glue back together" sorta guy, but I have to be honest - now that I have worked more with metal models, I am liking them more than I used to. Having said that, I will admit that I have done zero conversion work with it. I've painted more of them in recent months than I used to, but that's all. Plastic has a lot of advantages, but metal seems to be the fan-favorite. On a personal note, I think I will try some greenstuff/metal bits conversions in the near-future.

  8. Sketch,

Thanks for the correction. My wife and I were debating that. She believed that it should follow the steps the way goblyn wrote them - thus requiring players to "front load" their spells and risk the danger of annihilating their own models accidentally - but I thought the target should be decided first. Now I have one-up on her. :)

Thanks again for everyone's help and also for those who added questions for more explicit scenarios.

  9. Greetings, Wyrd-os!

While playing Malifaux this weekend (after an unwanted hiatus), some rules discussions have arisen and I was wondering if any of you could assist. Below is the primary one I am having trouble with.

    Casting into Melee

The rules for magic clearly state that an attack spell follows "the basic rules for that type of attack." Heeding this, I assume that when a caster targets a model engaged in melee with a ranged spell (with the "gun" symbol"), he/she will have to take the necessary steps to resolve the attack as any ranged assailant would.

Am I right? If so, please continue..

Here is where it gets fuzzy for me. What about the timing? My guess is that it goes something like this:

Ramos targets a Gamin that is in melee range of a Steampunk Arachnid with his spell, Electrical Fire. Since the Gamin is in melee range of the spider, Ramos must first make a WP > 10 check. He succeeds! Next he must figure out who the spell will hit, so he flips a card for each model. The Gamin gets a 2 and the Arachnid gets a 5. The Gamin is the official "target" and Ramos can continue casting the spell as normal.

Is this correct? If not, please explain. I have been looking on the forum for quite some time now without any luck...

  10. They all look great, but I believe the crystals and the effigies are by far your best work. Quick question: are those effigies painted with a silver or light grey? It appears you used one of those colors and then washed over and over to get a weathered look. I am going to steal your idea. ;)

  11. WYRD-o's,

Heya, guys. As a 1yr+ 40K player, I have heard a lot of good things about Wyrd on the various podcasts and forums across the net. I did a little research on the game and eventually I purchased the Malifaux rulebook about two weeks ago. In all honesty, I figured it would be a quick read before I decided to ebay the book and curse myself for not spending the money on something else.

Instead, I have purchased two starter crews (Ramos and Nicodem), fully painted one (Ramos), and played my first game of Malifaux at my FLGS. This game is amazing! From the dynamic flipping mechanics to the colorful character abilities I am - officially - hooked.

I will be ordering a few more models to complete Ramos' crew later today, so I just wanted to pop on and say hello to the community. I look forward to fueling my magic with your souls!

Edit: BTW - I am in the Fort Lauderdale area and play at Tates Gaming Satellite for anyone interested...
