Iron Halo makes some bases you might like. They look pretty nice and are incredibly cheap (since they only cast the insert, not the whole base.)

Good luck with the painting!

What would crush a Sabol case that wouldn't crush this? It looks like a similar design philosophy to my Sabol motor pool. (a clothy bag with trays inside) Are the trays harder?
I like the pick and plucks because I have so many GW minis and they are horrendous for trying to fit even the simplest infantry figures into regular spaces.
Currently my Malifaux collection hangs out in the bottom of my KR case under my Warmachine stuff (well most of it- why did Terminus' wings have to be so big...)
All that said I will still be looking at the Battlefoam as I have many, many more minis left to organise.
Battlefoam is canvas sewn around a hard plastic liner. I had a 13 year-old sit on my Pack 720 that was half-empty and it wasn't crushed. Granted, he was a rather small 13 year-old, but still.

that is a lot of halfs
Did we ever find out if it is half man, half bear-pig or half man-bear, half pig?

For skirmish-level games like Malifaux, I'm a big fan of the oldie-but-goodie chessex hard plastic case: http://www.chessex.com/figure%20boxes/Figure_Storage_Boxes.htm
For my bigger armies, I've always used Sabol. I'm a fan of the pick-and-pluck foam for customization on the fly.

If you like Sabol, give Battlefoam a shot. Their cut foam will allow many more models to fit than Pluck foam (while also being more study) and since their trays have twice the surface area, the Malifaux bag has as much, if not more storage space than the Army Transport for exactly the same price. It also has a hard plastic liner and won't fall apart after 6 months.
I didn't think much of Battlefoam until I bought one. Hands down the best purchase ever. Worth every penny and price per model stored the same as Sabol.

I do believe these bags were intended for the average Malifaux player who didn't have a whole heap of models (not that there is anything wrong with that, of course.)
If you are filling two Malifaux bags already, you might want to invest in one of Battlefoams larger bags to accompany your current Malifaux bag. The 720 would easily accomodate every model Wyrd makes and you could still carry the Malifaux bag for pimp cred.
Of course, I'm one of those freaks that plans out his purchases a year in advance and buys the appropriate sized bag for every new army he gets. Of course the release of 8th edition fantasy kind of threw a wrench into my latest army, but I digress....
For what it's worth, the Malifaux bag fits my wife's Arcanist and Outcast models (about 40 ss of each) and my Pandora/Teddy/Dopple crew plus my wife's LOTR army (16 infantry models and 6 cavalry models) with plenty of room to spare.
The quality is what I expect of Battlefoam, and I am loving the smaller size. The one fault with Battlefoam is their trays are just a tad bit too large for easy carrying sometimes. The 720 can be downright awkward sometimes.
