  1. If you didn't get a chance to buy her during the GenCon special, proxy Avatar Sonnia until you can get her. She is a beat stick of fiery power. Same for the Witchling Handler, especially if you are fielding plenty of Withclings.

Guild Hounds are good to field in certain cases. They are 3ss a piece, but they net you back 1 for every two you hire. Very effective mid to late game models as they can companion off of each other or your master.

Desperate Mercenaries are a good addition since they are only 2 points a piece. Although you might not want them since it will cost an in game Soulstone to just keep them around after turn 3, but they are very good even at the price of an extra soulstone, especially since you can use them as a meat shield and as a healing flip when they die.

Another thing you should also consider when hiring Guild Hounds, Desperate Mercenaries and Witchling Stalkers. Since they are cheap or have positive effects for you when they die, you can always use them as origination points for Inferno and deal blast damage to enemy models while denying them a defense flip.

  2. There was a fairly strong list being played with Lucius. Lots of attacks being thrown from Guild Austingers through walls from Lucius and Governor's Proxy. Backed up with Ryle as a heavy hitter and Guild Guard and Captain for extra damage. However, I don't think the list placed very high in the tournament I saw it in.

    -Lucius w/ 4ss

    -Governor's Proxy

    -Guild Austingers x 2

    -Guild Guardsmen x 2

    -Guild Guard Captain

    -Ryle

A Perdita list was being played during the Story Encounters Tournament, but I don't think it did well either.

    -Perdita w/ 5ss

    -Nino

    -Santiago

    -Francisco

    -Executioner

    -Convict Gunsliger

There was a Lady Justice list that fared pretty well against most others, but again, not another top ranking list. He did have an interesting play style with Papa Loco being thrown into the mix.

    -Lady J w/ 5ss

    -Judge

    -Death Marshal x 3

    -Scales of Justice

    -Executioner

    -Papa Loco

Lastly, I played three different Guild List while I was there. I did moderately well with them, but did place in any tournaments except for the Wild Card Tournament where my Guild list was very dominant.

List 1: I did alright with this list, but in the end, Lucius really held me back by eating up a lot of points and not having enough Elite Division or Guardsmen to back him up.

    -Lady J w/ 4ss

    -Scale of Justice

    -Lucius

    -Judge

    -Death Marshal x 3

    -Guild Guard

List 2: This list was played against a friend of mine when we got paired up in a match. Since he always went with Ramos, I decided to play Hoffman with Arcanist constructs only. I lost in the end, but Override Effect proved extremely valuable with taking control of his Steampunk Arachnids and self destructing them on Ramos.

    -Hoffman w/ 8ss

    -Steamborg Executioner

    -Joss

List 3: With Avatar Lady J bought and painted during GenCon, I whipped her out to great effect every time I used her. I might have placed better with them in the Story Encounters if we had time to play our final round, but who knows.

    -Lady J+Avatar w/ 8ss

    -Scales of Justice

    -Judge

    -Death Marshal x 3

    -Witchling Stalker x 2

In the end, however, not many Guild list were being played taht i could see. Plenty of Kirai and Dreamer play, however.

  3. How do you pine box a teddy? They are immune to influence (exception being if in 12" of dora)?

Haha, I totally didn't realize that. I Pine Box'ed my buddy's Teddy and he let it happen, guess he thought I knew more about his Pandora drawback than I did.

  4. Death Marshals are still my favorite of the 4ss and under crowd for Guild. Hard to Wound has saved them more than enough times from ending up dead too early and Slow to Die combined with an extremely effective range attack with auto Critical Strike almost has always guarantied that they will get their revenge.

Also, if you can ever manage to Pine Box a model such as Teddy, you won't regret it. Just save a 13:crows for such occasions.

  5. If you look in the mini rulebook on pg 55 in the 3rd paragraph under Summoned Models, you will see that models cannot summon models will controlled by an enemy crew, whether through talents or spells.

However, this is a good addition to what I said. I almost edied mine saying that you could do it with Alpha from Marcus or Override Effect with Hoffman.

  6. Push is affected by terrain, for example severe terrain, and anything that would stop it if it is push 'directly' away, for example another model.

The exception is when the model needs to be pushed within a certain distance of another model, then you ignore any and all penalties as long as the movement allows legal placement.

For more reference, check Page 37 of the Rules Manual.

  7. On the front page when they announced the Nightmare version for Gencon, there's a note saying that 'A normal version of slightly less nightmarish size' will be available in the future. So we'll probably be seeing a smaller Lord Compy Bits, if not an alternate.

The second is a miniature that will be only available during convention season, both at Gencon and online for the four days of the convention. This is the Nightmare Version of the Dreamer and companion, Lord Chompy Bits. Standing 72mm tall at the eyes, this is one BIG piece of metal which is completely usable for play in Malifaux and comes with stat cards for the Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits, a master for the Neverborn.

Due to the size of this piece, in order to keep costs reasonable, this will be only available for direct sale to customer, and only during convention season in limited quantities. This limited box set will retail for $60. A normal version of slightly less nightmarish size will be made available in the near future. Pictures of the painted product to follow shortly - in the mean time, artwork for the piece.

  8. Yeah, I'll get some closeups later today.

As for how I based them, I just used pins to switch them between bases. Although the white one's foot was too small to pin into with my drill, so I sniped and filed the insert tab into a pin.

  9. For my Coryphees and Coryphee Duet, I drilled a pin into the kneeling one and using a hobby knife and file, I widdled the base insert tab the size of my hobby drill's pin. Then I drilled a hole into each of the bases (2 in the 50mm base for the Duet) and just swap them when I need form Voltron with them. It works pretty well, as I can store the figures and bases separately to save space in my Malifaux bag.
