  1. The biggest mistake that many people make with Gremlins is that they try doing head on confrontations. Gremlins simply aren't built or designed for it. When playing Gremlins, play the scenario, not your opponent. Always take Thrawt as one of your announced Schemes. It's usually fairly easy to make sure that your opponent can't achieve his strategy.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Sobek. As a species, I think we just assume "kill, kill, kill" is the default setting for all miniatures games. Malifaux is the first minis game I've played in a while (reiterate: I've played) where the scenario rules wind up being meaningful in terms of victory.

I've only played a handful of games of Malifaux (all with gremlins) which is also the case for the people I play with so we're all still figuring things out about the game and our own models (i.e. I'm sure we're doing some stuff wrong and not realzing all the combos available to us) but I have to say that I'm happy with the way they perform.

I've only played 25 point games with Som'er, three gremlins, the Hog Whisperer, and four piglets. I tend to let the pigs run off on their own and stampede on one side of the board. Being able to do 8 pigcharges per turn can put the hurt on a lot of stuff. Blast damage with Som'er and the gremlins' boomers is key, as well. Last night I took out Bishop (who had DF 8 for the whole game) with blast damage alone.

  2. Well; I haven't seen the new digs for DG yet... this might give me an excuse to. Is Wayne carrying the line?

They had rulebooks and one or two starter sets before Christmas but I think those have all been sold. I've heard (not from Wayne, mind you) that getting Malifaux stuff north of the border is challenging. Take that with a sufficient grain of salt as, again, this was scuttlebutt, not from any retailer's mouth directly.

  3. Welcome to Wyrd!

Who knew the little blighters had gotten that far into Canada, I thought they had stopped most of them at the borders. Crafty devils.

I ordered mine from the UK. I hear they clung to the hull of the boat like barnacles.

  4. Hey, everyone.

My name's Chris and I play the Bayou Gremlins. As soon as I saw the picture of the Bayou Gremlin with the banjo in the rulebook I was hooked (although I hate that model now. 4 pieces!? WTF!? :)).

We just had our first Malifaux game night at Dueling Grounds in Toronto this past Thursday. From the looks of things, we'll be doing Malifaux on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Check out the Malifaux in Toronto Facebook page for more info!

Myself and some friends will also be running demo games of Malifaux at Gryphcon in Guelph on the evening of March 27th. Click here to sign up!
