  1. It's a deep rabbit hole - the interactions between language groups are sufficiently complex to strongly resist any straightforward abstraction. I've seen games with very elaborate language rules that still fall down under any kind of scrutiny.

Honestly, I think the best approach is simply to use languages to the extent that your group needs them, rather than trying to write a system that's all things to all people. The game currently leaves this very open - if you want your character to be able to speak a different language, it's probably fine to just say they can.

Agree if it fits with the story and background of the character Fated or NPC then just play it that way. If someone is learning a new language from either another party member or schooling of some sort just use their intellect as a modifier to see how easily they pick up on things. I know I could understand enough German to get me by after a couple of months.

  2. Honestly if you buy the Ramos box plus Mei Feng you have the Railworkers as well which are also constructs plus you get another Arcanist master who has a lot of overlap in models with Ramos. Getting an electrical creation and an additional box of spiders gives a lot of constructs too and I would never go past a box of Metal Gamin, good for both masters.

Personally I prefer Howard Langstom (who comes in the Ramos box) over the Rail Golem if I am only fielding one of the big guys but sometimes I do field both of them together in one crew.

  3. Yeah, that's probably a good plan. Picking different Factions would mean we'd get exposure to a wider range of models, too - there are still plenty of models that I've never seen on the table in M2E.

I think Liam mentioned that he was getting less keen on pursuing the Arcanists as well (not sure if that's changed) - we should get him in on the conversation. :)

Yeah I am still building up my Arcanists

So far just have Mei and Ramos crews built since there is a lot of overlap. Mei is probably going to the bench for me for a little bit as I have played her a LOT.

I am currently putting together a large pool of models for Marcus as thats what I did for most of my Gencon order and he and Ramos are likely as my next masters to play a bit more regularly

Raspy - I have some acolytes and have been keen on picking up her box for a while so thats easy.

Ironsides - Going to be building as TTB models and I'm looking forward to running her

Collette - Waiting for the plastics

Kaeris - Waiting for the plastics

I think Guild are generally a little underrepresented locally with there being a lot of Ressers. I have never been a great fan of the Neverborn for me to play I like a lot of their aesthetics but not for me plus the only Neverborn I own are beasts for Marcus. I think we should have them in the mix for us. 10T I think is the least represented but here are some big gaps in the line currently and while I have 3 10T masters currently I dont want to pick up the rest of the line at the moment.

  4. I find Mei to be more card reliant in general, I lover her to bits but I really only use her as an Arcanist.

Misaki doenst have that problem. Every game win or lose with Misaki I have a lot of fun with, I find her extremely enjoyable to use. I play a lot more of a denial game with her as I find she is generally hitty enough on her base card. As for Ototo I use him as a second line model otherwise he does just go down too quickly, if you set up an Orian or Ronin in a position that Ototo can cover you have a small bit of piece trade that can happen but his threat potentially holds the position with less effort than may otherwise be required.

  5. I would lean towards Misaki personally. She i s a lot greater 'killy' threat and less card intensive for that kind of play. Misaki also can fair quite well in a swarm with her Thunder attack which can deal blasts.

I do love Mei Feng as well and play her an awful lot but for what you are looking for I would go to Misaki, you cant really go wrong as they are both really fun to play.

  6. I am announcing Skulls Malifaux 2014 will be held on the 28th of September 2014

Wave 1 & 2 are all available to use.

No painting requirements but there will be a painting award

I will have the players pack up over the weekend, my harddrive crashed and I am recovering all the files.

Any other questions feel free to ask, looking to smash out some fun games in a different format that is easy to get into.

  7. I have also employed a random number addition to all duels that the Fated have to face against. I have a small grid that is full of values 0, 1 ,2 and 3. Each corner of the grid is one of those numbers and then I just add that value to my dule total. I vary where I start from in each encounter and vary the pattern that I traverse the grid. It gives the same incremtal buff to what the Fated are up against and its really difficult for them to try and 'game' as it is random, so it make them look at their twist deck a bit more or focus as a just in case.

Just a 5x5 grid is fine you dont need too many numbers eg.

    0 1 3 0 2

    1 1 2 0 1

    3 3 2 1 0

    2 1 1 0 2

    1 0 1 2 3

  8. I know we spoke a bit about VS before you left to go to the US Kadeton, so you have been setting me down this path of insanity as well. I dont want it to come across as group think in our particular meta but I so far have really come to the conclusion so far that he is a generalist with a bit of crew buffing but what he really does is unlock the Steam Trunk as an available model which helps the crew buffing.

I like the Freikorps models and I am almost looking at trying to run the crew with Tara leading them instead

  9. You can keep with a certain Master and learn them, you vary up your crew choices with that master. Sometimes you will find that you take a stable core ste of models with that master and then add on models taht ar emore geared towards your strategy and schemes.

Most tournaments are organised around you picking the faction you want to play at the event, some masters ar ebetter suited towards some stratgies and schemes over others but all have tools available to them to copmplete the job, the methods just vary a little.

For example I was running Mei Feng as an Arcanist pretty well solidly for all my games for several months and got pretty proficient with how she played and tackled the various strategies and schemes. I played other masters as well during this time but you can defiantely stick to a master for a while and vary your crew up. I am now starting a long trek into Marcus and going to be playing around with him for the forseeable future.

  10. @Math I have had good success with the Rail Golem, he is tankier than Howard which is good for some games but I like reliability a bit more than something that can swing a little wildly. Getting burning onto him is not a problem at all.

When playing Reckoning I have often gone with the Howard Rail Golem tag team with a couple of Metal Gamin too that creates a really tight and killy knot
