can a push effect move up climbable terrain?
i seem to recall it being "no" on a ruling somewhere, but can't seem to find it right now...
-
I do recall a set of rulings about pushes that included diagrams showing that, yes, as long as you can draw a path to the end goal that's legal movement, then you do get to make the push.....
so, RAW it does seem to be made:
1. Activate Mounted Combat
2. Make Attack
3. Finish Mounted Combat maneuver
4. Push model to base contact.
the lack of "directly towards" implies a problem,
and at the very least, with a hill handy, the Rider could drop someone off a cliff/building...

Yeah i read that thread, but I was just hoping it was in the rules manual as well because some people i play with don't really like the "well I saw it on the forums" reason lol. Thanks though
look between pg 14 and 16... IIRC, it mentions a top-down look there with no angles..

1. can a Master sacrifice themselves?
2. If Marcus Alpha's an enemy Master, can they choose to Drain Souls?
3. If Marcus Alpha's an Enemy Master and chooses to drain souls, does he have to chose from the Marcus crew?
4. If Marcus Alpha's an Enemy Master and chooses to drain souls, who's models take the WP penalty?

So simply out of curiosity, where in the rules manual is it stated that diagonal measurements aren't taken? Only vertical and horizontal. I am in no way disagreeing with this, I am merely curious as to its location. I went looking but could not find it.
there's a thread about running off the top of a building and taking fall damage, then still running some more...
the ruling was made there.

I believe it makes more sense than you think. The Masamune was supposed to be magical (in the sense that it could kill a possessing evil spirit without harming the body it occupies). But "Avatar of Slaughter" makes sense in that a sword has no other use. It is a tool for killing, nothing more, nothing less.
could be they're implying that all the people out and about in Malifaux are really "possessing spirits" that need killin...
I mean, really, the city didn't ASK the humans to show up...
and certainly hasn't shown itself to be overly friendly to them...
-
wait. you can take the trapper... 'cause building Outcasts you're not hiring them in as Mercs...
and a Librarian is also kinda crispy since if she heals one vic, they can both benefit from it...
-
right,
so, painting my proxy iggy, it just dawned on me...
we had Pandora and Candy, a master and sidekick with similar powers, go avatar together... causing candy to physically mature...
then we're introduced to Iggy... and shown Kaeris' very chaos-embracing nature....
why is it my brain goes "2 + 2 = Kaeris some how gets involved with the burning avatar and decides to go with it... and takes iggy along for the ride... "

Viks, Ronin (3), Taelor... that's what i've been using and it's been working OK... I feel a little choked for range, but once they get in the scrum they lay waste to everything (5 melee experts on the table can be impressive...)

Smigs just privately inquired if I was perturbed about any of this. I assure you all, my playful and pretty calm tone simply didn't come across. I'm totally good. Totally not angry. Totally willing to discuss this issue at any length. The Dev team certainly has!
tho, that "just field 30mm bases" struck me with an awesome Nightmare Edition set of models you need to do...
Nightmare edition tyrants...
see, since they're all unseen, invisible forces, you could just release 50mm custom bases with heavy footprints pushed into the debris...

without going way off on a tangent... my base thought with the 2d map was that it'd be a great demo kit... being able to roll out a well-rendered representation of the city with examples of the kinda terrain to expect,
while still being nice and portable, and showing off the minis (the quality sculpts being a big draw for a lot of people in the game... )
as for chess and the brokenness of the queen,
let's just avoid that one...
-
good point.
so, in reality, this is a 2d game with elevation levels marked on the map...
has Wyrd ever considered doing roll-out demo maps (like Mercs just had made?)
but the bridge question still stands.

didn't want to bog that thread down with a dozen tag on threads.
The terrain clips are 3" tall at the wall,
so, to make sure I've got this right,
if a ht 1 model is standing partially under a balcony (3" up) it can still shoot a model on the balcony.
how to the banisters/rails work into this?
-
Under the Euclidean Geometry the distance between two points can never be a negative value. If two bases are over each other the distance for shooting would be 0 inches. As the model on top of the bridge is within 1" of the edge it ignores the shadowing created by a flat elevation therefore could see the model with half his base out from under the bridge. The answer to whether they could shoot each other would be no, unless the bridge was high enough that they were not in melee with each other. If they are a Ht 2 model with reach 1, the bridge would need to be Ht4 for them not to be in range of each other for melee. In this case the model on top of the bridge would ignore the bridge lip as it's within 1" of the model and so could shoot the model under the bridge normally, but the model under the bridge is not within 1" of the lip so the model under the bridge would have a
on it's Attack flip as the model on top of the bridge could claim cover from being shot from below.
cool. thanks.
Didn't think we were in standard Euclidean Geometry as we don't use diagonals...
if the bottom of the bridge is 3" up, but the top of the bridge is 4" up... can both ignore the cover?
-
Yep.
Remember, rules are an abstraction, not reality.
i just seems odd that a model could be at a negative distance then...
if A is on a bridge,
and B is under the bridge (half the base sticking out) and the models are one above the other...
can A shoot B,
can B shoot A?
-
so, did we ever find where an ability fizzles if the target is immune?
-
ok... still wondering how this "Give Armor -1" and a model losing it's normal Armor stat afterwards interacts...
-
wait wait wait...
so a Ht 2 model at the base of a 6" building, is 4" away from the model when trying to do melee to a model on the top of the building at the edge...
but 0 inches away when trying to shoot it?
-
i still don't like the model,
but the paint job is impressive.
-
are you taking into account the 1 card burn for your defense flip for targeting your own model?
-
Do we already have a knife thrower? A fire eater? Magical malabarists?
i'm talking a crew, as a whole, who doesn't focus on damage dealing or disabling models..
.
examples..
the Fire Eater could have a burst template that does no damage, but causes Burning counters and Terrifying...
a Ringmaster who's vocal attacks make models Paralyzed, stunned with awe...
a Hypnotist that makes models Insignificant
acrobats who prevent disengaging (high CB, no damage) but also have DF triggers that let them reposition when attacked in place of taking damage...
a strongman who easily pushes models around the field, rather than harming them...
-
Raspy still needs a 9+ for Biting Chill to go off at all. There's quite a good chance of failing that even with a
to back it up - which I'm having a hard time figuring out where you'd get anyway.
Could you theoretically stall the entire game, flipping two cards at a time and getting a 9 out of each duel so it goes off every time? Uhm, no... You couldn't. There are 14 values, 5 of which would get the spell off. Even if they spaced out perfectly - one 9+ to one 8- in each duel - you'd run out of successful cards before you ran out of deck, and there's always the Black Joker in there.
yeah, i'm not seeing a good way to get that probability acceptable...
(I thought there was a + to casting... but it's to damage, so that doesn't work...)
and i don't recall any way to boost CA of a model...
(tho, i get the feeling this would be a good reason Arcanist won't get a CA boosting model...)
-
still, they could go the other direction...
a troupe of entertainers who are actually just that, entertainers.
we have dancing girls... why not Commedia Dell'arte or "slapstick" entertainers?
model's whose entire purpose is damage mitigation and healing, and thus strive for a battle in which no side loses pieces, but winning is done by strategy and scenario?
they could have powers that make targets Harmless, Pitiful, and Insignifcant for the rest of the game...
hmm...
perhaps I'll homebrew up what I'm thinking (i recall doing this for Mordheim ages ago...)
Push and elevation change
in Malifaux Rules Discussion
Posted
good catch... (i'm still thinking the old days when Climb was a separate movement...)
tho, by rules then, they wouldn't climb down, they'd stay, hanging on the side of the wall...
