    Hey guys,

Lets talk Strategies. Some of you may be plotting Pools already and some of you may have never done this before; so here's some considerations.

You're playing Reckoning in Round 1. That means you want your pool to contain some resilience, making it tough for crews to kill 2 models in a turn. Scheme runners are important, but if you take them, make sure they're either fast enough to avoid danger or durable enough that you won't get one-shotted by Nino or Hans as you make a dash for the edge. Beaters are important in this Strategy, but durable medium cost minions (like Illuminated or Punks) may be really valuable here.

You've got Recconoitre in Round 2. Speed and Defense are the name of the game here, but make SURE you know your opponents models with Push. If you have the ability to Push yourself, make sure you don't forget to use it. A lot of Push abilities combine with WP duels so having your scheme runners with decent WP can be a big deal. Built in WP defense can mean a lot in this Strategy as well.

Turf War is next. If you're playing NB, bring Pandora. If you're playing against NB, watch out for late game attrition by bringing in high WP models and make sure you've got a plan for first-wave and second wave into the middle. This game is often won by tieing on Strategy VPs and having a clever plan to get ahead using the schemes... so worrying about the long game and how to hang-in the fight in the middle while still having resources free to grab schemes is important.

Stake a claim is tricky. You need to get Scheme markers in the enemy Zone and hold the line or clean them out of your own. You can go speed, or wall of meat. However you decide to do it, this mission has all the challenges of Turf War and Recconoitre combined. All the considerations of those two missions need to be combined for this Strategy.

So there you have it; a beginners guide to considering Strategies for your Pool. Good luck!

  2. It's the feel-good event of the Summer!

The Lords of War weekend will now host a Malifaux Gaining Grounds tournament, Sunday the 16th of August 2015.

As this will be the GTAs first major Malifaux event we will be using a Model Pool format so that players of all levels, even those with smaller Malifaux collections, can feel like they can compete on a level field.

Gaining Grounds 2015, the official Wyrd Miniatures Tournament Format, will be in use (
http://wyrd-games.net/community/files/file/52-gaining-grounds/). Games will be 50 Soulstones. In addition, the following rules will be in place:

    • Players are restricted to a single Faction.

    • Players may select up to three Masters from that Faction as part of their Pool.

    • Players may select up to 100 SoulStones worth of additional models and upgrades which will form their ‘Pool’ to select from throughout the Tournament. Each round, they may only select Masters, Upgrades and additional Crew members from this pool. The pool may include out-of-Faction models provided there is an Upgrade or Master or other rules make them available to the player. A list of these Models, Upgrades and Masters should be handed-in to the TO at registration.

    • In order to include multiples of the same type of model in a crew, they must exist multiple times in the Pool.

    • During a game, models which may Summon may only summon models included in the Pool, though they may summon as many as the player has available models.

Number of rounds for the event will be determined by the number of players as per Gaining Grounds 2015, up to a maximum of 4. Each Round will be 90 minutes long.

    Strategies and Deployment will be as per Classic Rotation from Gaining Grounds 2015, for reference that is;

    • ROUND 1 - Reckoning, Standard Deployment

    • ROUND 2 - Reconnoiter, Flank Deployment

    • ROUND 3 - Turf War, Close Deployment

    • ROUND 4 - Stake a Claim, Standard Deployment

Scheme Pools will be generated randomly each round for the entire event by the TO and distributed to the players with pairings for the round.

    REGISTRATION: : 9:00am
    ROUND 1: 9:30am - Cards-down at 11:00am
    ROUND 2: 11:30am - Cards down at 1:00pm

  3. Wow! 20 years ago! Gaming really is a small world! :D

Even if you can't make a scheduled Hobby Night, Chris and Jay at Lords of War have an EXCELLENT Malifaux community and are both just fantastic painters and gamers themselves. They have a dedicated hobby area where you can head over, set up and work on minis while you're in town, as well as play learning games with either of them. So whether our schedules work out or not you'll have a happy gaming home over at LOW.

They're just down the Gardiner from you about 20 minutes towards Niagara, get off at Dorval/Kerr and head south about two minutes. Parking is in the back. Message me here or on my Facebook page closer to the date and we can hopefully set up a game! I'm happy to come out and Demo you / Hobby, whatever! :D

Oh, and if you're in town the 16th of August, you've got the most fun Malifaux Event of the summer you get to attend, hosted by yours truly! :D

    Cheers,

    Ash

  4. Lords of War Games and Hobbies (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) will be hosting our Gaining Grounds league for the summer which will also include Hobby Nights and a Painting Contest.

This league will prep for the Lords of War Tournament Malifaux Sunday hosted by yours truly on August 16th (more details on that) and is geared towards helping people build up their 100SS pool for that event.

The goal will be everyone has their 100SS painted by League end. You may participate if your crews are already all painted, but the additional fun of Hobby Nights and the Painting Contest ask that you begin with one unpainted crew box worth of figures to participate in those (available of course from Chris and Jay at Lords of War).

    You will have 100SS worth of figures to participate in the League with with the following notes;

    - You may include up to three Masters from the same Faction at no cost.
    - Any duplcations of models must be accounted for by cost (ie. Two Depleted in your pool allows you to field two, cost 8SS overall).

    - You may freely summon any model included in your Pool during games and may summon more than you have in your pool. You may not summon models you did not include in the pool.
    - All Upgrades you wish to use in the league must be paid for and included in your pool.

Simply post your League Lists to the Facebook Event if you wish to participate!

    Best of luck to all!

  5. Hey guys,

Just put together my basic Lynch crew and Mr. Graves. I've got Mr Tannen, Waldgeists and Depleted yet to build for my second wave, but I'm interested in what models exist out-of-faction that also have the Keyword 'Darkened'.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Ash

  6. Ah, there were two depicted on the cover, so I assumed it came with two. lol

The plan is for these four games to give a blow by blow of what we're doing as we do it, hence the escalation in Game Size. The advice here is so I can pre-determine some lists for each video to the Strategy and give the person filming with me an idea of what each model will do synergistically to fulfill strategies so they don't just hodge-podge pick models. :)

As for terrain, we will have a good mix of blocking, obscuring and severe so that the table is well filled, but with various types so that the players can get a feel for it.

    Thanks!

  7. Hi guys!

I'm going to be filming a 4 game beginner series for Malifaux featuring Outcasts and Neverborn. The Outcast master will be Von Schill and Jacob Lynch and Co. will be heading up the Neverborn.

This series will start with a Henchmen game at 20SS and then escalate to a Master led game at 30, 40 and 50SS.

I figured why not ask for input on the four lists. I'll be putting the Outcast version of this in their forum.

I will be sent and be painting up Neverborn from the following model pool. This will be all I have for models so no subs! :)

    - Jacob Lynch Starter

    - Mr Tannen

    - Mr Graves

    - The Depleted

    - Waldgeist

The Outacsts l will have access to...

    - Von Schill Starter

    - Hannah

    - Hans

    - Strongarm box (I guess I'll have an extra?)

    - Vanessa

We will be focusing on basic Strategies. First two games will be Turf War, then Squatters Rights, then Stake a Claim. Schemes as normal.

    Thanks in advance!

    Ash
