  1. I've never really played many RPG's, but yesterday I stumbled upon a game idea on Kickstarter that works somewhat like a generic RPG, and I am actually curious about it. It sounds like it could easily be adapted to the Malifaux setting.

    Here's the link:

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/corvuse/bhaloidam-an-indie-tabletop-storytelling-game?ref=category

And no, I don't have any association with the folks making this game (although I am seriously considering backing the project).

  2. Actually, the RM is quite clear on this.

"Within" means the base must be at least touching the edge of the effect range (note this means the rest of the base can be past the effect range, see diagram page 37).

"Completely Within" means the base must be completely within the range of the effect.

As for placement effects in particular (and the text referenced in the initial post):

"A model's base must be placed where it can fit...." means you can't place the model where there isn't physically enough space for it to occupy (due to terrain, other models, etc.).

"....and may not be placed so that any portion of it is further than the placement effect permits." This refers to either "within" or "completely within", as dictated by the specific placement effect used at the time.

"Unless stated otherwise, a model's base must be placed completely within any stated range." If the specific effect being used by the character does not say otherwise, the default for the placement effect is "completely within".

In the example you gave for Dreamer, yes, it overrules the default restriction of "completely within" for the placement effect. This is evident from not only the exceptions noted in the placement effect rules on page 38, but also in the "Breaking the Rules" section on page 7.

  3. She was designed to be a miss pack. I dont think it is so much trying to get rid of extras as it is what she was designed to be.

Exactly. They did it as a special bonus for the customers. I just didn't know there were still any floating around out there, but apparently some of the bonus boxes are still out there with various retailers.

  4. I just had an awesome experience with Wyrd customer service. I received a large order from an online retailer, but my Guild Guard blister included an incorrect sword arm (it had the arm from the female guard out of the Lucius box). I simply used the contact option on the Wyrd online store, and Nathan responded very quickly promising to fix the issue. Just a couple days later I received the correct sword arm in the mail.

Oh, and even better.....one of the Crew boxes in my order had a Miss Pack inside! :drew

    THANK YOU WYRD!!!

  5. Hmmm...just had a whacky thought (and probably a stupid thought, too, I'm sure). Since the Pigapult has the "Gremlin" characteristic, it can be pulled along by Ophelia using "Oo, Its a Girl" (I think that's the one).....And while the Pigapult may not need to move much in a game, perhaps it could be mobile cover for the other Kin? Ophelia pulls it along, the Kin follow keeping the Pult between them and their opponent, as needed until they attack.

Like I said, whacky and probably not sensible.

  6. I noticed that twisting fates is not on the online store yet, nor does the warstore have it, nor does either of the three LGS within an hour of my house.

Did the street date on this get bumped from sep to ???

Actually, The Warstore DOES have it, and in fact their website showed it in stock on 09/15, and as of one minute ago it still shows in stock.

  7. I don't play Som'er but was looking at the Pigapult as an inclusion with Ophelia.

That said the risk of firing a model which will die unless they make the uncheateable defense flip puts me off using it for anything that doesn't serve its purpose whether dead or alive.

    Might be fun with Pere!

That's why I was wondering if anyone's used the skeeters with it yet, since they have Df 7 and would only need 4+ flip to survive the Launch.

And though I haven't tried it yet, I've read from others that a Pere Launch is quite fun. :happypuppet1

  8. With the new release of the Pigapult, I thought it'd be a good idea to open a new discussion on it's uses in the game. I know such has been discussed before, but I imagine more ideas will arise with more people actually trying it out now that the model is available (will get mine tomorrow! yay!).

One thing I was wondering: has anyone tried the Launch action with the Giant Mosquito in a Somer list?

  9. I know Nathan meant that sarcastically (and I found it hysterical, BTW, really!) but seriously I do think a "mystery figure" in an unmarked box would be quite cool. I mean, we can trust Wyrd to provide a great miniature, right? I say do it. Make it a Gencon special next year, it'll fly off the shelves.

And a plain brown box stamped with Guild "Top Secret" emblems or such would be so fluffy.

  10. I'm coming in a little late in the conversation, but don't forget that the game plays in factions, not boxed sets. If you like Samael you don't have to put him with Sonnia to use him. Use Guild with Guild, and add mercs as necessary.

Of course, there's not always synergy between the models within a faction, but I'm sure you know that. :)

  11. I've been craving a more detailed map for Malifaux, and because of this have been going through all official text and taking appropriate notes so I can draw one. Ideally I hope to detail some parts in similar fashion to the Atlas of Middle-Earth (a book like that for Malifaux would be totally awesome....I'd buy it!).

  12. I use my deck like Zoraida does.

My wife says, "Take out the trash." I pull out my deck and look at her ominously as I draw. "Oh, hon," I say. "Not good. The Queen of Masks. There's deception afoot from a woman in power." Next card flip. "Eight of Crows. The graverobber. I think not, deceptive woman! You mean me harm! I'll not fall for your wily ways!" And then I run out of the house to go play with my buds.

I tried that once with my wife, and I've still got bits of that card stuck in my nasal cavity.

And yes, it was a Black Joker. :)
