  1. Looks like Element games have it in stock now, have ordered it!

    Nice!

I made a lazy trip out to a not quite local-to-me-store yesterday (much earned lazy Saturday) to browse some minis selections. They (Game Kastle in Fremont, Ca) turned out to have a stack of TtB products (all three currently out) at their new releases section.

My good friend, neighbor and regular player in most of my games grabbed a copy of The Fated Almanac. Those are all the same person, though, so I only moved one additional copy, not 3. ;)

  2. I've got a few things on my writing plate, but I can definitely write up the "Murder on the Rails" game I ran at Gencon since it was designed to be a starting adventure.

I'd love to see this, if only to get an example out there for folks. :)

  3. Howdy,

So, I was thinking some about the various commentary on Soulstones, economy, etc., rules vs. fiction. For games I'm likely to run, an idea comes to mind.

I find some of the background particularly creepy and sinister re: Soulstones (send us your citizens ... ) that doesn't necessarily play out in the rules. The part about recharging from a nearby death (and the really short range), and such.

Giving a close reading to The Fated Almanac suggested some things to me:

"Of course, a Soulstone can also be recharged in a variety of ways (such as the Harness Soulstone skill, or Siphoning) ... " [FA p. 225]

"If a Soulstone is within a number of yards ... when a character dies ... the the Soulstone will completely fill." [FA p. 226]

"... send us your citizens and we will share with you the secrets of Soulstone." [FA p. 19]

I believe the Soulstones, in addition to recharging themselves (if high enough Lade), recharging fully from a nearby death, and when subjected to Harness, ... can also be recharged (although not as quickly) by proximity to human suffering.

Individually of little use, or even a few. But a workshop, 1905 factory, work-camp, mining operation, or asylum? Certainly, and discretely.

  4. Not sure about the TTB Fate deck, but the Fated Almanac,  FateMaster's Almanac, and the FateMaster's Kit all hit retail out here in California last week. I saw them come in (and walk right out) last Friday at one of the flgs (Black Diamond Games). Fortunately, they brought in second copies, which I scored earlier this week.

I grabbed a Retro Fate Deck as well. :)

  5. I think Through the Breach does a really good job at being a light chargen system. If I had a request for additional support for the process - understanding there's no pdf yet available (for purchase or *cough* bits n mortar ...), it would be for the following:

    1) the Cross Roads Tarot Reference Tables (FA, p 64 - 73);

    2) the Skills Table (FA, p 114 - 115); and

    3) a listing of the Talents (consolidating the entries from FA, p 135 -147)

Not suggesting that it's broken or any such without those ... those would just be my wish list items if I had my way.

A listing of Pursuits are easily enough typed up by myself.

Jimbovalsocks I think that is a perfect solution as the website you provided is insanely detailed. 10 common language family "packs" like Latin, Germanic etc. is probably the best idea. The rabbit hole is indeed a deep one.

There's a few language family pictures floating around - I'll see what I can come up with - from over the years. I recall Hero's Danger International had one; I'm sure there's OGL / Creative Commons ones that aren't quite as insanely, wonderfully detailed as that website (which I'm sure I didn't just bookmark for future reference).

In play, for folks who prefer as such, I could see providing for one native spoken language for a starting Fated, and an additional spoken language for each positive point of Intellect. One could add an Academic Skill of Linguistics, and allow perhaps a larger language families / choices to be spoken.

I'd also considering adding a (non-cannonical) trade tongue. The Guild controls an awful lot - some kind of Esperanto they enforce through Guild publications, key papers, language of Malfaux. Everyone in Malfaux winds up speaking it, and It has bits and pieces from all other languages.
