Very nice, my greenstuff skills are laughable compared to yours.

I think without the card loop Som'er is very competitive. The Dumb luck ability can potentially double his and other gremlins damage, the pigs can throw out quite a bit of damge for their point cost and having the pig whisperer makes quite a bit of difference.
With Som'er and the whisperer making more troops for you, a smart player can balance his troop losses with those of his opponent. It may be a battle of attrition, but Som'er is equiped to come out ahead!

I'll paint the mini seperately, usually super glued to an temporary base and/or blue-tacked to an old empty paint pot. If it requires pining to the base I insert the pin at this point.
When the mini is just about done I rough in and basecoat the base. After that I pop the mini off it's temp base and attach it to the real base, at this stage I can finish of the base and final touches on the mini keeping lighting and such consistant.

Personally I find the models to not be too difficult to get together, I've never had to pin any (yet) but I have used some JB Weld on occasion.
As to the flash/offset issue, my Somer box set had some very nasty problems but my Vicroria and Zorida sets were fine.
