  1. May i offer a possible conversation to think about it.

Opponent: I moved my xyz and now end my activation.

Me: I activate Kade and pass and pass.

Opponent: I activate zyx move, cast a spell and end my activation.

Me: I activate Candy and pass and pass.

Opponent: I activate yzx move, shoot and end my turn.

Me: I activate a Sorrow and ... Wait, still nothing in range! I pass and pass.

    ...

Sounds good to you? Not for me!

I don't think pretending that that is all you can do creates a compelling discussion point.

Against Pandora this is how games often go for me:

Pandora is going to Pacify around the board killing things with Self-Loathing (chucking in Pity if needed) and then Pacifying back to complete safety. While she's doing this Kade and Candy tend to be working their way around the board to set up danger zones for the opponent to avoid (stay here and get Pandora'd, go there and get charged by Kade and / or Candy) or to help with Objective grabbing, while the Sorrows split between linking to Pandora 'just in case' and moving to a good position to, again, force action from the opponent.

Is she fun to play against? Not at all, never has been. But she's effective and fun to play as (opponent's enjoyment excepted).

  2. That brings me to the point that Pandora´s gameplay becomes more static than it was before. How much fun is that for you and your opponent?

If it means that I can actually have a chance to hit her back before she kills my entire crew with relative impunity, then the answer is - a lot more :).

  3. so, zoraida can summon a wicked doll every turn without even having to cast a spell. thats pretty strong imo as ramos needs a scrap counter, and some pretty good card, to summon a 3ss spider, while she can summon a 3ss doll only spending 2 ap

I'm still staring at the Insidious Madness and wondering what the other factions did to deserve it...

  4. I`m rather unsatisfied with maelstrom at the minute. There e mail replies have been rather short on what items they have and dont have. Ive had 2 e mails saying my order was split then sent out only to have that stopped in another e mail to say they had to split it again and it wil be sent out some time this week. All I know for sure I think anyway is that I will recieve my book 2 and puppet deck at some point near the end of this week and my Kirai box sometime next week they think. They also werent sure about the terra clips which i ordered a set of each of. Think I need to find a new way to get Malifaux stuff

I think they're just coping with a lot of orders at once, whilst also trying to build up their tournament setting. Sure I'd have liked my book sent out a little sooner, but sometimes there's a benefit to picking it up in a store, rather than online.

Anyway I tend to double check stock / prices between Maelstrom, Wayland Games and Gifts for Geeks for most things (and used to use Tor Gaming before they stopped stocking Wyrd) if that helps.

  5. Cheers for the Link, just what I needed :). Hamelin is probably my favourite character (gameplay-wise) from Book 1 and as I already have Levi and Ramos, too, it seems like a good natural progression for me to pick him up (for model sharing). It does make it more of a shame how much I dislike the SPA models, though it seems.

I guess the Vik's will still be the back-up crew for playing with the brain switched off. Not a bad thing to have, I guess :).

  6. I've not had any luck with the Steamborg against Pandora - from just under 15" away (near twice the range of the Steamborg's charge distance) she walked 3", Cast Pacify, Fading Memories, Self-Loathing, Self-Loathing, [Dead Steamborg], Pacified out.

Spider explosions were my best damage dealer against her.

  7. Meh, I'm probably a bad player, but the Ronin were the key component in keeping my Vik's at a competitive level (although they were too cheap out of faction).

Thankfully with the SPA's about to come out I can now put the Vik's to one side for good.

[EDIT] I should quantify this a bit more, probably. Although I don't use Run Through *that* often (sometimes preferring to Walk and retain Harmless, for example), it is the threat of it that can be used to help contain my opponents threats. It allows me to keep Seamus at bay a little (as he can't guarantee being able to destroy the tiny thing that just knocked off a couple of health, that he'll get back if she dies), it helps to make a Pandora player double check before taking a risk on an Incite/Pacify run, it helps control Lilith, and Zoraida's Voodoo doll shenanigans, it means that, with Hamelin, there's a response to a Lure (getting them back before they die).

In short, I'm sure there's plenty of people very happy with the change, but it doesn't half screw over Vik players (especially when the real solution is not to make Outcasts so cheaply available to other Factions, who can use them to plug gaps that are inherent to their Faction while they're the core of an Outcast force).

Anyway, enough griping, I have other Factions, so the Vik's can just stay in the case now.

  8. I have no love for Bishop, and nor do most people I've discussed him with (Omadon aside). I've tried him and have only rarely been even moderately happy with his performance on a turn.

Misaki is great, but is made even better by having someone around to help her get into better positions or to move her target to an easier to reach place. You can use Bishop for this, certainly, but I would far and away rather take Hamelin or Taelor (depending on whether you want more control in a squishier package, or less in a far tougher one).

I've recently been enjoying the following 35SS Vik list (in case it's helpful):

    Viks + 4SS

    2 x Ronin

    Convict Gunslinger

    Hamelin

    Misaki

A decent amount of hitting power, good threat, lots of board control and plenty of ways to hit and run.

Once the Student of Conflict is out, I'm not sure how I'll fit him in, tbh :).

  9. Personally, I find Misaki to need a bit more support than she gets from just the Viks and three Ronin (which would be none ;)). Also, just two Soul Stones is really not enough.

Personally, I'd be tempted to drop a Ronin for more Soul Stones - perhaps, take the Student of Conflct in her stead (Taelor + CoS will give a good 'assassination run' for Vik). Or swap Taelor for a Convict Gunslinger and go full no support.

Although having a Misaki to hand to try out is no bad thing :).

  10. really i think a bump in cb by one or two would suffice. that way his low end still hits harder than nino, but he can't reach cb9 like nino.

So you think he'd be balanced if, despite costing more than Nino, he had a lower CB, did less damage, couldn't move and fire without a massive punishment, and had far less utility?

    Your theory intrigues me... ;).

  11. As Tenabrae says he suffers from being a far worse, but more expensive, version of Nino. Although only Guild can take Nini, obviously, the knock-on effect is for Hans to be regarded poorly in comparison.

I'm not sure he's the most disappointing model in the entire game, though <looks at Bishop>.

  12. Now if Wyrd is smart they wouldn't let their competition get ahead by ignoring their fan base. They need to continue supporting the game with (ahem) new books and models while updating and enhancing the current rules to promote balanced game play.

I don't think I've ever know a company in this industry be as hands-on as Wyrd - rarely does a day goes past without a key member of the team or one of the management commenting on a thread, or creating a new one. It's nothing short of amazing, frankly.

Oh and new models every month, new book in August and regular errata updates (as well as comments pointing out what will be in the new errata if a question comes up regarding a particular point). So looking all good for you on that front, too ;).
