Victorian, Bayou is rather easy in my opinion
-
Hi,
I am not sure which material I should try to achieve. I am capable of building medieval houses and sci-fi stuff, but I do not get the style of Malifaux.
As far as I know there are several 3 different styles of housing.
1. Bayou
Mainly wood shacks, no bricks at all
2. Downtown, Malifaux Outskirts
Brick ? Wood ? No clue.
3. Mining, Badlands
Western Style, Frontier Towns, Mostly wood, some brick houses (Bank, "Sheriff", Mining Office)
I did some reserch on victorian houses and industrial age houses and now I am at a completely loss.
Is this the appearence of Malifaux?

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/enzo_fortuna/TRAINS/Victorian-houses.jpg
or is it more along this style
http://img.smartnewhomes.com/gwimage/e84e24779cba43ceaa6645eca374c90b_IMG_00.jpg
or is it like these
http://historicbuildingsct.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/mansfield-house.jpg
http://historicbuildingsct.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/john-mccurdy-house.jpg
I need help on this topic since I want to build a little town, approx 4-6 houses, and I really want to cathc the feel of Malifaux.
The only clues are""Based in an alternate Earth, Malifaux uses gothic, steampunk, victorian horror with..." and the fact that it's settled around 1700.
Cheers, Largo

1) Favorite: Color of paint (the specific paint color listed on the lable)
-- Regal Blue (GW). Perhaps Turqoise (VA) or English Uniform (VA)
2) Favorite: Brand of paint
--Vallejo
3) Favorite: Sculptor
-- Hard one. Can't get one, but I would say the guys at Wyrd or at Anima:Tactics (some, not all)
4) Favorite: Painter
-- Doesn't have one, but if I would have to choose I would vote for Victoria LAmb
5) Favorite: Mini Company (other than Wyrd, we all know it's everyones #1)
--Brigade Models
6) Painting Preference: Metalics vs. NMM
--Metalics. NMM is too time consuming (I did it, but it's not my style)
7) Mini Preference: Fantasy vs. Sci Fi
--Hard one. modern Fantasy I would say, like Wyrd is probably my fav. Or Pulp.
8) Mini Preference: Male vs. Female
--No preference. Female models mostly have more flesh. And thats a shame since flesh is hard to paint
9) Mini Preference: Human vs. Monstrous
--human
10) Favorite: Paint Brush you use the most
--Da Vinci Harbin Kolinsky
11) Favorite: Paint Job You've Done (provide link if possible)
-- Death from the Discworld Series by MicroArt. No Link available. Or perhaps Celia from Anima Tactics.
12) Favorite: Paint Job Ever (provide link if possible)
-- Can't name one, perhaps the Khorne Juggernaught on CMON (rated about 9,x, easy to find)
13) Desire: A mini company from which you've never painted a mini, but want to
--None yet. Fulfilled all desires
14) Desire: A mini you most want to paint, but haven't
-- My Wyrd stuff. Sad Face
15) Favorite: Mini related forum (again, other than your obvious favorite; Wyrd)
-- Local Gaming Club forum
16) Favorite: Site you find most useful in terms of helping learn mini painting/Sculpting
--CMON
17) Desire: A sculpt you would love to see, but doesn't yet exist
-- good Cyberpunk Miniatures for Shadowrun
18) Ambition: What would you most like to achieve in the painting hobby
-- BestPainted Awards for all my systems (2/4 done)
19) Least Favorite: Thing you most dislike about mini painting (think eyestrain, back ache, being socially outcast, lost time, costs, etc...)
-- lost of time. definetly
20) Least Favorite: Paint Brand you've tried
-- Revell
21) Least Favorite: Mini Company who's sculpts/style just don't make you want to paint them.
--least GW models. And their price.

hmm.. I am pretty solid concerning freehands, any ideas?

Update! I finally had time to edit the pictures (cut, brightness etc), and without further introduction, here they are:
Overview
Killjoy
nothing special except the sculpted base. I had the intention to match the superb MicroArtStudio Bases, but since the big bases are rather expensive I went for a "resculpt"
Converted Death Marshal Close-Up
I had the concept art of the Marshals in my head when building this one. Somewhere in the book or in one of the e-Zines there is Marshall leaping above somthing (or somebody) with his coffin on his back. So I went and pinned a Coffin from the "Spare Coffin" Blister to his back and the other one, on which he normally jumps went into my Malifaux Bitzbox
Converted Judge Close-Up
I saw the pictures of the Judge being sculpted and when I saw that he originally should wear a hat, I was a bit dissapointed at the next page, where they were ripping it off So I made him a new one
Mortimer
Punk Zombie Anarchy T-Shirt
Punk Zombie
The head and the arms had been bent before painting and that's it. Not much work.
Punk Zombie Samurai

I have completed Mortimer and alsosealed the first 5 Ressurectionists. That's the first completed starter box. Since I want other people to join the fun I will now paint another's fraction starter, then the next and throw some undeads in the mix ('cause undead are most fun to paint).
Pictures will follow tomorrow, I have already made them, but it's too complicated to do it on laptop with a touchpad and only GIMP when I can do it tomorrow ( the tomorrow in Germany, so in about 10 hours) on normal screen with Corel PP.
Overview:
[edit] See next post
And for your concern, the next steps:
First: Guild (Lady J) starter
Second: Arcanists (Rasputina) starter
Third: Killjoy
Fourth: Probably Gremlin Starter
Fifth: More Gremlin Stuff
Thrown in for fun: 3 Samurai Punk Zombies, 4 Mindless Zombies, 1 Flesh Construct
So far I have invested quite a bit of the money, but I haven't had so much fun painting minis since the beginning of Anima:Tactics, nowadays it's always the same type of miniature and it's gotten far too expensive (1 (ONE) Mini 10€ - 15€ (thats 15$-23$ for you US folks) , 28mm Scale, metal). But thats just rants about another tabletop so I will remain silent in that matter.

Hi there! I am from Germany and I wanted to share some pictures of my miniatures. I normally paint at an incredibly slow pace, but not when undead and/or great sculpts are involved. So far this is the work of two evenings building, filing, sanding, cuttin and sculpting and about 10 hours of painting. It's not top notch and the bases are still unfinished but so far I am rather happy with them. Comments welcome.

Hi there,
I have been asked by one of the workers at my local gamestore if I cpould spend some time in running a demo fpr Malifaux. I build a 4'x4' large board, including some woods, a river, some houses,a road and so one in the past to promote the game, but that didn't went well. The terrain is still only used by two people, me and a buddy of mine who helped me with the board and is the only other person in my area playing Malifaux. I thought that good painted miniatures and a good looking board would be enough to draw interest, but well. So here we are, back at the beginning of the post. I am supposed to run said demo, and I want to run as many as possible. When I only offer a normal game it would have several problems:
1. A game, even Scrap is rather long. Which reduces the numbers of players who can actually play a round
2. The game itself is very complex for beginners, the whole trigger/special rules thing can be too much for players who are new to the game
3. There are rule bending models, Seamus Starter Crew for example can move at a whole instead of moving only one miniature at a time.
So here are my questions to the experienced henchmen around the world:
1. What is the best format to introduce playerrs to the game?
2. Which rules can be left out if you want to speed it up?
3. Which crews are recommended for the demo? I have two fully painted, Nicodem and Lady J. But I schould be able to paint another crew or two (Rasputina, Bajou Gobs or Seamus are available at home but unpainted)
4. Which items should I ask my hobby store to bring to the demo? I know that it is not possible for him to get the whole of the items (demo is not in the store where they sell miniatures, it is in a secondary shop, and there's only card games for sale). I am thinking of a couple of starters and some rulebooks. What's the general opinion?
Cheers, Largo
