  3. Oh I won't quit the game, just need to step down as Henchman as my new work schedule does not allow me to build the necessary interest at EG to support a tournament. So I am glad there is at least one location in the Denver Metro area (as well as more even further north in Ft. Collins) to support those who wish to compete. EG will continue to stock the product and who knows, there may come another Henchman who can build the crowd and start anew.

  4. Crimsonwraith made the trek and so I had a turn out of 1. We waiting until 12:30 then closed shop and left about 1. :(

After this and the October turn out, I think it is time I hung up my spurs as a Henchman, its been a good 2 year run.

I will encourage any who wish to play Malifaux to seek the Tuesday group at Total Escape Games or ask at your FLGS to see if there is a store near you that has regular play.

  6. <snip>

Stuff that are definitely not effects are as follows (but not limited to): Wd loss, model's position on the board, Counters and Tokens (the latter get a specific mention in the spell so all is well)

    <snip>

    -Ropetus

Greetings Ropetus, thanks for weighing in on this. But I am confused. The spell only specifically mentions counters and is a bit contradictory in that the first sentence removes Counters (no mention of Tokens) and then says Carried Counters are not removed.

Is that first reference to Counters in the first sentence supposed to be Tokens (like Poison and Fire)?

  7. MalifauX Halloween Tournament

What: Malifaux Tournament, using the Halloween Story Encounters for 2011 (plus Treasure Hunt if an extra round is needed) [And if there is no 2011 released, we will use 2010]

Vitals: 31 Soul Stones. 85 Minute rounds. Single Faction. 2 Schemes/round – Note a scheme can only be used once/tournament. Accumulation Format

Specifics: $5 Entry Fee for prize support, No Preregistration (first come first serve), 16 slots max. Plus a random drawing for a Miss Demeanor for those who participate in all rounds

FAQ: Unpainted is alright. No "unsupported" proxies are allowed (if you have the malifaux model - just don't want to use it - then you can have a proxy - but will be reviewed before play)

  8. So for the whole counters thing, since the only counters are scrap and corpse and everything else is Tokens (poison, fire, etc), yet it says Carried Counters cannot be discarded and the only way to get them is to Carry them.

I think the Spell needs to say "Discard all Tokens and ...."

As for the whole effects issues - I agree there is definately a loop-hole here that needs to be closed, if the interpretation here stands.

But I think we are reading something incorrectly.

    Pg 19 RM

"Effect is a game term referring to anything that changes a model's state."

So I am trying to understand how Terrifying on a model change's that model's state. - It doesn't that model is always terrifying (sans a spell that cancels that ability - which then spellbreaker could remove)

So casting spellbreaker on a model with Terrifying does not remove Terrifying from that model as that model's state is not changed by having Terrifying.

Spellbreaker removes all Effects - something that is on that model that changes THAT specific models state.

So I am not seeing how Spellbreaker could remove Terrifying.

Now, I could see it removing the bonus activation from Reactivate (as that was a change in its current state during a previous activation).

  9. I saw the army, it is a cthulu themed dreamer crew. Very well done. I would call it counts as rather than proxy. All the models match their respective counterparts, but there are no Wyrd minis that I recall.

Thanks for the answers, I will pass it along.

Also, as an aside, I will be holding a painting competition, sort in conjunction with this on Sunday. I will make its own post as to not hijack your thread further.

If he can show me that his "66.6%" is purchased, even in a box and unpainted, I probably would allow it. Example - one person found a great model for Insidious Madness that was not an Official Malifaux model, he still bought the Insidious Madness when it came out and at the last tournament he showed me the unpainted IM and showed me his painted IM-variant. That I am cool with.

Where I have run in troubles in the past with other games was people using Company A models to play a game from Company B and never buying models to support Company B.

I have also run into problems of it creating confusion amongst new players, and creating ill feeling for those who spent the money for the Company B product while the person who played with Company A toys mocked them for spending so much money.

Company B now no longer makes minis, nor the game.

So I understand the whole No Proxy Rule, at least for tournaments.

Unofficial/Home play, I say bring on Cthulhu Ia!, Ia! Phataghan!

I look forward to seeing the painted crews and wish you luck with the painted crew contest.

  10. I met a new player that has some proxied models (non-Wyrd). Will he be able to use them in the tournament?

    Normally Proxies are not allowed.

Now, if they are playing someone like Nicoderm and have a stack of zombies from other games, to create variety, I would not have an issue with it. But if they are using D&D models glued to 30mm bases and they have to keep saying "oh this model is really so and so" then I do have an issue with it.

You said "some" as long as the models are released and it is very, very clear about what they are, so the opponents are not asking each turn what something is, then I am fine with it.

I am going to say at least 66.6% of his crew must be Malifaux models, and he can only proxie what is released (so no proxing FLGS unreleased models).

  11. I had some people ask about the paint requirement, if there is 1. Also, are you allowing book 3 and all the released avatars?

They also have laminated printed v2 cards, are you requiring official cards?

    1) Painted is not required.

    2) I will not be allowing Book 3 models or Avatars as they have not been released to the general public. In general unless the FLGS has the ability to stock the model its not allowed.

    3) Laminated V2 printed cards are fine, as not everyone was able to send in the old cards.

  12. Greetings Denver Area Malifaux players.

  13. I am glad all those that attended had a good time and a chance to play not just one game but three in a day. Will start putting together the next event here shortly, so keep your eyes (unless Coppelius stole one) open for posters at your FLGS and here on the forums. Target is a Saturday in late Augest (post Gen Con) at Total Escape Games (CrimsonWraith, if you want to run it PM me so we can start coordinating Denver area events).

  14. Excellent, then I'll do my best to be there on Saturday. By the way is Thursday still the best day to meet other players?

    Chris

    Greetings Chris,

Look forward to meeting you then on Saturday. As much as I would like to say Thursday is the best day to meet Malifaux players, those that were into it heaviest and were meeting that day have reduced to a small trickle of a few players that show up sporadically. Now there is another store, Total Escape Games on the north side of Denver, they have people meeting sporadically as well. So probably the best thing is to come to an event (like this one) and see whom you can get emails from and arrange play times from there.

  15. Hello,

I'm new to the Denver area, and would love to get to know some of the local players and play some Malifaux. I am a relatively new to Malifaux but have played some other minis games.

I'm going to try and make it this Saturday, but like HP Lustcraft I don't want to bother anyone with my novice play ability. If anyone is up for some casual games let me know.

    Chris

Greetings Chris, definately come. And while Malifaux has been around for a couple of years, the community in Denver is still young and growing, so please come by meet some of the players and perhaps arrange some games on the side.

    Hope to see you there.

  16. Do we need to preregister? What's the entry fee? How many rounds? How many slots?

Look forward to seeing you there.

    Excellent Questions

Preregistration: Nope, first come first serve, I will be there shortly after noon to start setting up.

Fee: $5/participant, all will go into Prize support.

Rounds: Depends on how many we get, I am not expecting more than 16 players so probably 3 or 4 rounds.

    Slots Max: 16.
