  1. Nothing a little zombie action couldn't cure. Besides, undead models should have the rule "Foul to eat - Take DG instead of Healing" ;)

Devour is living only, so they "Do. Not. Want." the assorted undead, which is probably why the rate of feline syphillus is so low in Malifaux ;)

Not to say they can't NOM NOM NOM NOM on Seamus....

  2. I've found that Red Chappel Gang, Lady Justice, and Lilith are all pretty straight forward. I'd vote for Ramos for the Arcanists for aesthetic reasons and because he's not quite as "annoying" as Rasputina (a common complaint I'm getting in demos) and he doesn't have the odd model count Marcus does.

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. OK; I tried AoM's method on a spare miniature and really dig it. I need to work on the blending a bit, but the color progression worked well. I found that I can probably start with the 2:1 Greycoat to Frostbite mix and get good results; any hard shadows I can hit with dilute Greycoat.

Thanks a bunch guys; I'll get a good shot of the crew when its done!

  4. OK, I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for models with overly complex rules/combos. I still love me some straight-forward Masters (Rasputina, Lilith), but holy moley - Leveticus is something sexy.

I just want to make sure I've got this right: the only way to get him off the board is to kill his Hollow Waifs, but those should be coming back the following turn anyhow. So you can make him go away temporarily, but you'll never really get rid of him. Am I reading this right?

I'm looking to give him a spin after a few demo games tonight: although its going to be a low point game (25) , I'm looking at taking a Desolation Engine, Rusty Alice, and points to fill (either a Convict Gunner or some Canine Remains). Am I missing anything with that? Should I start the game with some Steampunk Abominations?

  5. Thanks to all for the suggestions!

I'll add pictures of progress as they come; I'm going to give Angel_of_Menoth's method a try on a spare model (the CMON Dark Sword LE).

@ Mango: Thanks for the in-depth response. I've never been especially good at painting large, white surfaces, so I'll see how this one works out.

  6. I guess I'm just dense, can someone explain why this is a 'limited quantity' thing? they do it all the time, are they just now labelling it as 'limited quantity' as in '2 years of production' or what? $100 USD...ummm...

I've heard vague scuttlebutt that they realized their profit-margin would be low, so they decided to turn this into a "superexclusive-LE" in order to maximize the initial volume of sales (and then forget about it and not support it). Allegedly, this is a "1-print and that's it" sort of deal... we'll see I guess.

Part of me thinks is completely assinine, but part of me hopes this gets them to update and reprint some of the other specialist games in a similar manner (Blood Bowl and Necromunda come to mind).

Moreover, I'd be less than shocked if FFG picks this up as a reprint within 12 months.

  7. Howdy:

I'll preface this was a blunt assertion: my painting ability could be summarized as "sucktactular". I'd rank somewhere between a 5-6 on a CMON scale and I'd like to improve upon that.

That said, I've started work on my painting my Malifaux box sets so I can spread the good word to other locals. I'd like these models to look as good as possible for obvious reasons.

I've started work on my Rasputina box set and primed her in black, as every model I prime in white looks washed out for some reason. I'd like to keep her close to the studio color scheme, so white coat, white hat, etc. I've never had much luck painting white on black primer: I either ending up adding too many thin coats and giving the model a "caked" look (I've gotten better at this recently via thinning my paints further) or the whites look too dark.

    So here's my questions:

    1. Can I get a good looking white using black primer, or should I strip the models and reprime them in white?

    2. Should I base-coat the white areas in white or in a light grey, then highlight the white areas?

Here's some general info that I've seen asked as initial questions in other "Help me paint better" threads:

    - I'm using the P3 line of paints and paint brushes.

    - I'm thinning my paints using the P3 Mixing Medium to a thin, milk like thickness. I've gotten OK at figuring out when paints too thick and too thin; gloppiness isn't a huge issue for me anymore.

    - Two brush blending is a technique I'm still working on; any advice here would be much appreciated.

    - I tend to work with a darker undercoat and add highlights. If this is backwards, I'd be happy to work the other direction.

Thanks in advance for any pointers; I hope to be able to paint half as good as some of you someday.

  8. I had a blast playing in this; I can't believe how friendly everyone involved was and how smooth it ran considering all of us non-playtesters only had the rules for 2 days and we had the lurvely fire drill 15 minutes before the event started.

Congrats to the winners and big thank you to everyone I played for good times (especially winter_of_discontent). I can't wait to do it again next year!

And sorry again for being late to the second round, Weird_Sketch!

  9. I saw that Grudge match. It was hooooorrrrible. Poor man didn't flip anything bigger than a 4 for 7 cards.

    Maybe next year!

    Z

I was there to it; it was truly terrible as it something like "4, 4, 3, 2, ace". But hey, at least he pulled a 13 on the next duel.

Not that I'm arguing with result. Go TBK! Go AARG!

  10. Hey Gargathor:

You're being too humble; your Ortega crew was gorgeous! Sure beat the heck of my unpainte... err.. uh.. "silver themed" force ;)

It was great talking to you and a few of the other guys from Wisconsin on Saturday night; hope you did well in your third game of the night (I know we both at 0 VPs at the end of the second round). Sorry for the hold up at the start of the second round (stupid nicotine)!

Hope to see you next year!

  11. The book is amazing! I knew the Wyrd name prior to Gencon and was utterly blown away that the Malifaux book was as well-produced as the minis. It sold me on Wyrd, so here I am.

I got 7-8 games in at Gencon and finally "got" my Master of choice (Rasputina). The depth of the game is outstanding and I've only just started understanding the Scheme/scenario rules. Definitely my new favorite skirmish game.

If you have any specific questions, DangerousBeans, let me know and I can answer them for you.

  13. Heya:

Long time listerner; first time caller. I'm new to Malifaux; saw the book at Gencon and grabbed a box, rulebook, and fate deck. Two days later, I was leaving Indi with 3 more boxes, 8 blisters, extra fate decks and more books. Suffice to say I'm hooked!

Thanks to all the Henchmen and Gencon for helping me pick up the rules; special thanks to Ambrose for pointing towards the awesomeness that is the Arcanists faction!

    So yeah; Go Wyrd!
