  1. I think one of the biggest things is that the Ortega boxset is one of the most effective boxsets. Once you start switching out models other factions do quite well v them. Some of the boxsets are more tournament worth than others which is not surprising since they're theme based.

  2. I'd drop most the box set and run Sebastian/Belles/Punk Zombies and potentially Bette Noire.

Dogs, Nurses, and Flesh constructs are good but you can summon 2 of them and nurses are only good in larger games. You want to focus on aggro (Punk Zombie/Sebastian) and harpoon tech to move your enemy into threat range (Belles). Summon the flesh construct only once your close to blitz your opponent in one turn. Mcmourning with lure support has a lot of threat and you can do serious damage with him if you combine him with a flesh construct. Though you gotta plan it right. He's got 3 good (0) actions and you gotta choose wisely when to use them, especially since scalpel slinging is essential to his combat style.

  3. Just a word of advice, I would actually make your list not having any constructs. As that and dogs are the only 2 things you can summon with McMourning, I'd include things he can't summon and would augment him well.

A 35 point list I think would do well is:

    McMourning

    Grave Spirit

    Sebastien

    Bete Noir

    Rotten Belles x3

    Zombie Punk

Use the Belles to chain lure a model way over to you, then kill it to bring out the mighty Bete Noir.

Have Sebastion use Gather Body Parts then next turn give them to McM to bring up a flesh contruct.

Bete Noir is a complete beast, with Df7 and the ability to rebury when she dies is amazing, just make sure you hold onto a card to get that spell off.

The Grave Sprit can attach to McMourning letting him get into the thick of it and be harder to skill with Armor 2, he also can't be hit with ranged or magic attacks which is great.

I love McMourning he's one of my two favorite masters in the game (Him and levi) and I think you can do some cool stuff with him (I worked A LOT with him in the beta to make it that way).

I'm quoting this guy because it's quoted for truth. That army list is fantastic for Mcmourning and very close to my own. Only difference is I often drop 1 belle/the gravespirit for his totem and another punk zombie. Though both are good options. I find 3x belles has some problems v armies that can deal with lure and thus drop one for more solid attrition units (AKA, the Punk zombie).

Also one quick note. Mcmourning can't gain the army from the grave spirit. Undead only sadly (Or it'd be kinda broken to be honest)

  4. The Saemus boxset is pretty good but optimizing wise you want more high damage units (Yep, good old punk zombies). In fact I like only taking 1 or 2 as to be honest he'll summon plenty more as the game goes on and as such should focus more on the units he can't summon. The Hanged is also nice (Or 2 at 35 SS. 2 Hanged, 2 belles and 2 punk zombies ain't bad. You can drop the belle for another punk zombie or a crooked man).

As for the Belles, the belle basically exist for 2 purposes.

    1. To be very hard to kill for their SS cost.

    2. To cast lure.

They're not bruisers, they're not fast. Instead they're tough as nails and havea great movement spell.

  5. We played our match up last week of Ramos against Zoraida. The game ended in a draw for us but the game did have some good info. Zoraida had treasure hunt and Ramos Assassinate. Terrain was set up with either 1 large piece or 2 small pieces per square foot. I felt this was more then used in previous games and did provide more opportunity for gaining soft or hard cover.

Turn 1 the Surilds leap and take the objective remaining Neverborn move up. Ramos crew does the same.

Turn 2 Joss moves up and engages the Surilds, Ramos moves behind cover with Steamborg charging to kill the Gunslinger. Surilds push out of engagement with Joss, 1 leaps back with token and double moves for a secure spot secure in deploy zone. Zoraida creates a voodoo doll with marks on Steamborg. It fails obey and charges Romos, bad flips so minimum damage.

Turn 3 General fighting with Z having the Steamborg charging Ramos again, bad flips. Joss offs a Surild. Candy move to start casting Self Loathing on Joss to good effect.

Turn 4 Joss dies to Self Loathing, Steamborg again fails Obey. 1 Surild moves to secure secondary objective on opponents side of board.

Turn 5 Haven't seen much with Ramos in previous rounds because nothing could happen. Control hand didn't have the suits to make anything happen. Soul stones were used to counter Steamborg damage or to attempt creating a spider. Now in turn 5 the control hand comes together. Electrical creation is summoned to damage Candy and sorrow. Steamborg goes down to self loathing. Healing flips for Ramos.

Turn 6 Ramos control hand is still good and summon Electrical creation to kill my securing Surild and Candy finally goes down from Ramos. Game ends with my main objective complete 4VP with Ramos crew defending the two secondary announced for 4VP.

This match up was to use the advice given throught this thread to see if some of these external factors would change the play for Ramos. I'd say they did to a degree but the core issue was present. The flips or control hand needs to be optimal to achieve the high cards needed and additional tomes. Ramos had to hang back and either fail at creating spiders/summon and burn soulstones to try and make it work. Last two turns finally came together but at that point he had no chance to take my master down, she also had a good number of ss left.

This Ramos player again experienced what has been a recurring theme of his games. It is needing the high card and an additional tome. Combined with having to defend models since in this case the crew count was low and being offensive. The Ramos set up just doesn't result in an efficent Master. I played a spell and control master against him so the control card usage wouldn't be as needed from constant attacks and still an issue.

Other configuations of the crew are discussed but the overall feeling is Ramos is not that great to use. This thread on Vitzh part is ending up being a vent but through our playing of him is just verifies what we are experiencing. Call it bad luck on pulling cards or this person just doesn't get it but I haven't seen proof that Ramos is that good.

As the thread is labelled, Ramos: Tactica. So if you have more to add in tactica in his use then add it so we can test it out.

Steamborg and Joss is a bit much. You usually want one or the other and the saved points should be spent on Spiders. Ever so many spiders...

  6. Cool game. Though sounds like you let Mcmourning get left out on his own. Always remember he can take a charge, and regain all his life next turn. I always wait to make sure he engages the enmy with the rest of his army even though he is faster (I'm sure you already know that, just saying is all).

Oh yeah, and personally I prefer another punk zombie and a belle instead of the construct but that's personal preference to be honest.

  7. Hey, welcome.

Nicodems a prety nasty master. He's a very strong attrition master due to his ability to summon lots of models and having a solid spell list with good damage and good buffs.

As for what models to get, Nicodem can really use a bit of everything because he can summon models during battle and as such he can respond to changing battle situations. However when it comes to generally good stuff with him, more punk zombies are always good, as they are a fantastic unit. The Crooked Men, Bete Noire and Canine Remains are also great with him but sadly don't have models yet. The Flesh construct, Nurses and Necropunks are all pretty good with him and have their place Nurse can buff units at the cost of killing them but Nicodem just summons more, the flesh construct is a beat stick and necropunks make good speed bumps and are good for targeting with nurses.) And honestly, Rotten Belles are just really good in general.

So basically, most stuff is good to get with him, with the stuff I mentioned being the usual stuff he's used with.

As for a fate deck, they're all the same. Just different coloured backs...

    Hope that helps,

    Regards.

  8. I'm with Weird. the huge threat range they have is amazing. That and pack is a ridiculously powerful ability.

And honestly all around their stats are average to good. cb's a little low but it's payment for the massive mobility and swarming ability they have as well as good defense v shooting (Cameleon is great) and ability to escape combat (Do remember that when they escape combat they can move in any direction. This allows setup for some nasty charges.)

  9. I'm just saying a lot of armies can deal with the tow and you have to be careful. Summoning the deolation early can cause problems though because he's open to shooting unless you use the action in which case he's rather slow and he takes a lot of damage before hitting the target. I'm always back and forth on taking v summon the desolation engine. Usually I won't though and leave him in the summon only category.

On the hanged note, love him but not with Levi. I prefer to use him with WP test causing masters as they can combine their efforts (Love him with Saemus. Trail of fear makes him fantastic). With Levi I'm a big fan of damage damage damage.. and some attrtion.

The hooded riders always a good call

Punk zombies and crooked men are great

Joss is a suprisingly fun option

    Teddy's also very cute.

The Peacekeeper is also really fun to use. I love that guy.

Rusty Alice is also a good option, I'm a big fan. She lends some ranged support but she's also great at defending Levi and the card draw she gives is fantastic. She's worth it just for that.

Honestly there is a lot of flexibility with Levi and you can create some very cool lists. These are just my personal preferences. Play around and see what works for you...

  10. Ok so i posted some rules clarification and got the answers so now here comes my list on how i plan to run Leveticus!

    Leveticus (duh!)

    Bete Noire

    Hanged Man

    Hooded Rider

    2x Steam Punk Abominations

    or

    Leveticus

    Bete Noire

    Hooded Rider

    4x Steam Punk Abominations

    Strategies:

First off I like it since it can stand up to ranged lists with the hooded rider going night and the aboms can use anomoly which the rider pulls them to there target.

The hooded rider pulls the steam punk aboms wether there are 2 or 4.

If I use 4 and they all survive then desolation engine comes out! and then Bete Noir appears as well since they are undead and were sacced.

If theres two they bide there time...

It doesnt stop Bete though since I can also have the waif cast a spell to sac to pull out bette, or kill Leveticus so he brings out Bete.

The best thing is I have an unlimited supply of recyclable units the bette can pop out of if she dies (as long as Leveticus is around).

Nice army list. It's quite good against shooting armies but just as a warning there are a number of melee armies that will be able to deal with it. Things with leaping units, or Liliths army list can attack is due to it's fragility. (Nothing sucks like linking all those abominations in and having lilith come over and greatsword attack all of them. It's very nasty. Or sonnia criid throwing fireballs at him since it's not a ranged attack. Non ranged attack spells are also the bane of this list.). You're spending 12SS on subpar models (Abominations exist for summoning, not for fighting) which can really hurt you if the bomb doesn't work, especially with the whole alternating activation thing as the hooded rider pulls the abominations and either gets charged, or is not close enough to bomb with the desolation engine on the turn it appears.

Not saying it's a bad list, I quite like it. Just saying you gotta be careful with it as there are some armies that have the tools to deal with it. I personally play Leveticus with lots of solid units (Punk zombies for example) or with lots of very elite units so I can use his card draw mechanic to bully duel.

He's got a lot of variety and he's a lot of fun to play. Just throwing out some potential issues you may want to look into.

  11. I've enjoyed playing the Cult of December so far but not fairing well with accomplishing scenarios. She winds up slowing my crews roll up the board.

Used the sabertooth last game and felt it was a great addition to her crew. Was considering the wendigo totem but really not seeing the benefit. The essence of power seems a better choice but only affecting Decembers Curse. The other alternative is the Student of conflict to help out with the speed issue.

What other crew builds are being used to good effect?

My personal preference is something along the lines of (At 35SS which is my standard play)...

    Rasptuina

    Essence of Power

Joss (He's fantastic with December's touch)

2 Ice Gaimin (As Arc Nodes/Using Bite of Winter)

    Sabertooth Cerberus

And at this point you can throw in stuff as a matter of preference. More Gaimin, soulstones, a december acolyte, another Cerberus (A personal favorite).

Student of Conflict is a good option though. Most mage casters are quite slow and thus it's a very useful option. Rasputinas got some good options and it's nice to experiment to see what works. My general policy with her is to run fast things to make up for her slowness. While being able to bounce spells does give her a bit more threat than she appears to have she still has to spend a lot f time moving. Do remember though effectiveness does vary a lot depending on scenario/matchup so something may perform poorly in one situation but be far more useful in others.

    Hope that helps a bit,

    Regards.

  12. So, I'm looking for advice on what master. I haven't played any games yet and will probably get a few test games in this weekend. I'm torn between McM with dog's, Chihuahua, Sebastian, and some Necropunks. Or, Nicodem, and I'm not sure what else.

I really like the idea of zombies over flesh constructs (always liked Night of the living dead more than Frankenstein). However, game play wise I think I'll be more attracted to the combo's and combat McM provides (I'm too competitive).

I just don't see the power Nicodem has over McM. In combat McM seems faster and more damaging. And in summoning McM can take dogs, sebatain, and a totem to grab and give him conters to summon. Nicodem can only wait for stuff to die or have Mort dig him up 2 counters a turn (at best). Is there something I'm missing?

Personally I'm a big fan of McM, he's one of my favorite masters. Lots of offense, lots of damage, cool abilities. Good stuff all around.

Nicodem is not to be underestimated however. Bolster undead is amazing especially with punk zombies/crooked men (cb 9 paired melee units? How about def 8 units v ranged attacks?). Nicodem also has a lot of card draw which is amazing in this game. And lastly the unit spamming is astonishing with Nicodem. Your enemy kills your army but every turn 1-3 models of it return and overwhelm your enemy. It's pure, cold attrition. Just give him a shot and you'll see how nasty can he be....

  13. Not exactly free. It's paid by employers and high taxes. When I visited Vancouver me and my wife only bought food and souvenirs. Prices are killer. We also filled up gas tanks before crossing the border per my cousin in Canada advice. Oh don't be fooled by stores accepting dollars there as well. They will only accept it on a 1 to 1 ratio instead of the exchange rate which makes things even more expensive.

Also my wife has never had to wait months to see a specialist when she was pregnant while my cousins wife had to. I think long ER waits are common throughout the world.

Need to get some more recent numbers but the difference between Canadian and American taxes on average is surprisingly small. Though it does depend a lot on state taxes as that fluctuates quite a bit.

Surprised about the price thing. Every time I travel to the US everything costs the same or more than it does in Canada. I'm always very confused. Probably also varies state to state (Seems to be the rule in the USA). Though I must admit gas is much more expensive.

  14. As people here have said, spider bombs and electrical creations are key. Unresistable damage is king and Ramos forces your enemy to spread his army out otherwise blast damage kills the entire enemy army.

There's a lot you can do army wise with Ramos. The usual is 1 big creature and the rest being spiders. Though you can make the big thing a spider swarm, or 2-3 and go crazy. It's a lot of fun. You do have to keep Ramos close so he can create more spiders.

It's all about attrition, swarming, locking enemies in combat, and blowing up your guys.
