  1. Nice work. I think a win loss stat for each master would help as it shows how many games have been played.

IE if LJ has won 3 out of 5 games 3-2

Though if we tried going for which masters tend to win the most I'd honestly cut out any starter box game as there are obvious imbalances in them because they're theme boxes.

  2. Personally I like to avoid taking a lot of belles with saemus. He will end up summoning a lot of them later. I prefer to spend all his SS on models he can't get. Convict gunslinger and the punk zombies are the biggest choice since they are great units and give him the damage the belles lack. Don't underestimate crooked men or some of the human models in the list though, surprisingly good troops...

  3. The Judge mostly pays for being much harder to kill (As said above, hard to wound 1 and 2 more df help a lot.) and for being faster. Moving one inch faster is nothing to balk at. I actually prefer running the Judge over the executioner in a tournament environment because the moment a shooting list hits the table you will wish you had the judge instead. The executioner dies really quickly to shooting...

  4. Do yourselves a favor and put down what you think is way too much. Try for no more then 4 to 6" between each piece of terrain. Keep firing lanes down to 18" or less.

Perdita with Bullet Bending is not the powerhouse shooter that she is with a direct shot. -2Cb is actually quite big.

Give that a go and try hanging on to your cards a bit more.

Also with Ramos I almost always have him between 12 to 18" behind the lines. He frequently salvages under fire and summons spider after spider. I only move up when I need to get the Electrical Creation into range. I have actually stoked Ramos to summon two spiders in a turn. Don't worry about the fact that Ramos loses one spell casting action. Or cast arcing Screen even if it wont do any good if you can get a surge out of it.

Listen to this man, he speaks the truth!

Yeah, a good Ramos player will make his opponent fight a 50SS army as opposed to a 35 one. And all of it explodes... They just keep on coming....

  5. See, and I'm not sure I agree with that. Is it better balanced than most new games? Yes. Is it better balanced than alot of old games? I don't think so.

But essentially, I'm just glad that we can speak our concerns. I trust the developers to make the right decisions. If I have a concern, but it's a concern that they recognize, and they decide not to change anything, then I'm still perfectly happy with that.

I'm curious what old games you speak of. I haven't played every game on earth, but I am curious which ones come to mind. I find this game better than most I've played.

And I'm sure the dev team are listening to peoples concerns. I can understand that you have be careful before changing things to make sure you don't make a mistake and there's the problem where erattaing units makes a lot of people angry. It's a very hard line to walk...

  6. That may be at least partially true. But i think it's foolish to think that this game, as new as it is, is as close to balanced as it's going to get. Everyone shouting "this game is PERFECT! You just need to play more!" isn't good for the life of the game, because it's really not perfect. Though this game is one of the better first incarnations of a game I've seen, there's always room to fix things, and make them tighter and smoother.

So yeah, I still think the punk zombies, atleast, need to be 6 stones. And I'm sticking to that until my own play experience convinces me otherwise ;)

(and for the record, I am a Resurectionist player. So this isn't me crying because I can't deal with Punk Zombies ;))

I never said the game was perfect. I said it was better than average balance wise. I have a few balance small balance issues myself. But personally I think at least 90% are playable and that's WAY better than most games, old or new.

I do agree that a big problem many companies have is they won't let people speak truth to power. I think an honest dialogue is a good thing for a healthy game when it comes to gameplay balance (and most things honestly).

As for the Punk zombie, I think he's like a 5.3SS model that's 5. When you compare him to some other 5SS models and indeed some 6SS ones he doesn't look quite so powerful (Ronin, Francisco, Convict gunslinger, Johan).

  7. For what it's worth, I think models like the Punk Zombies could use a looking at. They are stupid good for their cost. Similar situation with the death marshals. I think this game is great, I just think a few things need to be recosted. That's just my experience from playing so far.

I think the more fundamental problem (Well, maybe problems a bad word) with them is the battlefield role they play. Damage is always the first priority, even in a mission based game. And those units are the damage units. They're the frontline fighters and they're supposed to be. Other models fill various support roles and have abilities that support ones army and pay points for this. Models like the zombies and marshals (And some others) just pay for flat damage. Every game has the front line troops that make the core of the army, they just happen to be the core for those two armies (And lets be fair. Witchling stalkers, the Ortegas, Crooked men, Terror Tots, and a number of other units are comparably good.).

In smaller games they'll make up the majority of the list but the larger the game the more room there is for support (like in all games. Frankly I like the game more in the 35-40 range. 45 is good too if you increase the hand size by 1). And personally I think most units in the game are at least comparably powerful. For most units I think the power level difference is relatively small, especially compared to other games. You know, maybe .2-.3 SS here and there.

  8. Is there a Resurrectionist afoot?... there seems to be some thread-necromancy going on around here... :dead:

I might have to call the Death Marshals. :D

    *looks back*

Wow this thread is old. Thought it was much newer. I just click on stuff under my new posts section. Ho hum. I do try and avoid helping thread necromancy, even if I am a Res...

  9. Is it possible to proxy if you dont have the base to proxy for? My friend just got rid of 4,500 dollars worth of WM and Hordes so we have no bases to use as proxys so is there another way? If there is that would make my choosing a Master MUCH MUCH easier.

Also you can use paper cutouts. Me and my friends did it for BFG years ago....

As for army competitiveness I'd like to think every master is competitive, though frankly probably not 100% even in their competitiveness (Pure balance I think is close to impossible with flexible model games). I definitely think Rasputina has what it takes, high damage output and an armor 2 giving spell is fantastic. Though the more I look at her the more I think she should steal an outcast totem in order to gain fast.
