  1. I have to disagree...IMO Hell Dorado is moving in a positive direction with their mini's. I've got every starter set/expansion set they have come out with to date and the detail(s) being put into the miniature's is just amazing. I'm hoping they will expand with a new army soon (maybe just wishful thinking though)? I've been waiting on this mini for about six (6) months now since I heard the news it was going to be released. Again all of this is IMO.

Yes, the detail and the overall sculpting quality is stunning, I have one of the starter sets and the Doppelsöldner pack myself ... for my taste most of their stuff is just too gross (and seems to be getting more and more so).

  2. Thanks for the feedback :)

Ritual, I agree about the darker shading on the metallics, especially on the helmet. It does look darker in real, but it could still be darker.

Wren, when I decided to drop the idea of weathering the clothes I had to come up with something to convince myself that the dirty hammer and the clean rest of the miniature ... let's just say he entered a deep dungeon and lost his trusty axe/sword/mace during the first encounter in there. Fortunately there was that old rusty hammer lying on the ground nearby

  3. My latest work - Hatherley from Hasslefree Miniatures. Ever since seeings Rituals fantastic version I knew I had to paint this sculpt :) Probably the most difficult part was coming up with a new color scheme and not just copying from Ritual ... but I think I did ok.

Actually i finished this miniature back in March but it was also an entry in an online competition at a german forum and I had to keep everything private until the results were published. The results are online now - I didn't win but I am still very happy that I managed to get an entry in at all ... the contest deadline was March, 31st - the day of my wedding! Hatherley was in progress for some time and I worked on this miniature whenever I could take a break from the wedding preparations (which meant a few minutes every couple of days). As it turned out I was home alone the evening before the wedding. Throwing all plans I had for the miniature over board (freehand + weathering on the cloth) I took the chance to finish something for the contest (and distract me from my growing nervousness ... ). Oh well, enough babbling for now ... ;)

Obviously not as good as Rituals version, I am still happy with the result:

And if anybody feels like voting, he is up on CMON too.

    What do you think?

  4. Wow, you are on a roll at the moment. I like how you brought the sculpt to life - the face is full of character and the metallics are nice too.

I never really paid attention to the sculpt in the Hasslefree range, but your paintwork made me buy the miniature on impulse :)

  5. I think the movie fell a bit flat, especially with the 'star power' they tried to pull out with it.

But, yeah, as an 'homage' to Pulp-Stories I think it is a very fun movie to watch...And really is fun if you are interested in the Pulp genre as a mini painter or gamer.

It's definately worth a watch on a rainy afternoon.

What he said ... not the greatest of movies but fun to watch and very entertaining.

  6. Thanks for the feedback :)

... Perhaps a dark drybrush to tone them down a touch.

Actually I drybrushed the gras with a light color - bleached bone - in an attempt to ty everything together ;) But you may be on to something there ... will try a darker drybrush next time.

  7. Wel, uhm, I haven't posted here for a while ... demonherald encouraged me to post my latest work here (thanks :) ). Very fitting, because it is my first Wyrd miniature: one of the Witchling Stalkers.

Currently my private life is a bit upside down, which means my painting time is limited or if I have time to paint I can't find the focus to work on big projects ... but, hey, I will only marry once in my live ;) Anyway, with this in mind I found the Witchling Stalker to be very relaxing to paint. It is a miniature I could work on every now and then if only for a few minutes. A relatively simple miniature but still challenging and very rewarding to paint.

    Enough talk now:

    Its up on CMON too.

PS: Hey FF, thanks for your comment :)

  8. Don't scrap the scheme. The colors look good and work well for this miniature :)

About the gold NMM and there is really nothing to add to what Ritual and Wren said. Don't be afraid to use a very dark brown for shading and highlight all the way up to pure white for hotspots where the light is reflected most.

  9. Make sure to unload your brush on a (paper) towel before applying the paint to the miniature or otherwise you will just flood the area. When using a glaze it is very important to precisely control the application.
