  1. New pic for you guys :

    aurlok_loup.jpg

Waya, the Wofl Manitu of the Aurloks, is the soul of the Aurlok nation.

    He represents for them

    Intuition, instict and cunning.

The Aurloks that have been blessed by Waya and that possess warrior

    abilities are renowned for

their skill and thier combat reflexes. Their highly developped instinct

    allows them to practice

    very surpising combat techniques.

The other Aurloks blessed by Waya develop a certain form of

precognition that will often lead them

to become spiritual guides for their kin. This clan provided some of

    the greatest Night Shamans,

Shamans that guide the dead towards the eternal hunting grounds.

Amongst the members of the wolf clan you can also find the most

    renowned leaders, also known as

sachems. Wacanitse Light spirit, The current Edoda Elohino supreme lord

of the Nation, is a member

of the Wolf clan. In addition to being a leader prone to defend to the

    traditions, he is also a

fierce warrior and thus represents all the aspects of his Manitu.

  2. Before this ends up in a steril discussion, and as I've already said above, the english speaking painters should be satisfied in a few months time. I won't go into more details because it's too early.

I only brought this news up because there are a few french speaking members here and I thought they could benefit from it.

If we are thinking of the same thing, it as been annouced quit a lot so I guess you can talk about it. And it should be at GenCon, not in its english forme though :P

Or I'm just mistaken and I'll shut up :D

  3. I'll add my voice to what's already been said, you need to be a FF7 player to understand ( then again you shouldn't have any excuse for not having played ff7 in the first place ;) ).

As for the voice, when it comes to Manga, appart from few exceptions ( Alucard's english voice comes to mind) you need to use the japanese voices to be on the safe side. And the bonus is, you end up knowing some japanese words :D

  4. Hey, that's almost sucide doing that cedric ;)

I'll just say that I agree with him on the quality.

And here are some 'news' that can be shared. For those of you that actually like playing with your mini, you'll be able too, there's going to be a whole elaborate game behind the minis. And the game shouldn't require 5 hours to play ;)

And most importantly for all your purses who are already shriveling up in fear at the bottom of your pockets, price will be acceptable. Now official price are obviously not disclosed. But less then 10$ per mini should be the range, I'll let you guess how much less :)

  5. Yes, my mistake there.

But that game seems to have gone the invisble way since most people I have been talking too about Illyade don't know about it. Even my local mini store owner didn't know about it, goes to show... :P

As for Asmodee, if I got my facts right that's where the former Illyade sculptors are now, can't recall if it is just freelance or actual employement.

  6. As you may know in the past year and a half Jeremie Bonamant Teboul has been offering painting classes to mini painters around France, and more recently in Belgium and Canada. These three-day Classes offer mini students the chance to learn from on of the best French painters of the moment and to improve on their technique. His recent experience in Canada coupled with the desire to make these stages available to English speakers have given Jeremie the desire to have 6 of these stages in the United States and Canada next summer (mid july to mid august most probably)

From a purely logistical point of vu this seems entirely doable, so what we need to know now is how many people would be interested. To make this work we would need 12-14 students. So what I’m asking is for all people who would be potentially interested to send me an email at paintinglessons@yahoo.com with their full name and the cities in which they could attend the stage (Possible cities listed down below). I will detail the information concerning these stage below, since we are still in a planning phase changes can be made, so do not hesitate to make comments or suggestions.

As stated above the classes are done in three days, time in which you should be able to finish your mini. A normal day would be 8 hours of class, even though most classes tend to have longer days if people feel like talking a bit and paint some more. So each day amounts to 8-10 hours of class. Every important subject is addressed during the three days: color theory, correctly applying highlights, painting good metals, diluting, ect. There is no set level to have to attend these classes; all painters can profit from them, the most skilled (Vincent Hudon improved a lot during his stage and won a Deamon with a mini done during the stage) or the least skilled (I learned quit a lot: P). And apart from the actual classes, these stage come with a lot of goodies, even more so for the US ones since several new ideas are being though up. Possible extras would include: a special class mini sculpted for the classes (limited to those persons who participate), special previews, mini displays, and maybe some more…

In regards to language There should be no problems, Jeremie has some Knowledge of English and I will be there at all times to translate. So appart from a good dose of french accent you have nothing to worry about.

The classes will cost around 150 $ per person, price which includes the mini. The exact price isn’t yet known because some details still have to be worked out. But it is Jeremie’s wish to make these classes available to as many people as possible, so the price will be bought down as much as possible. In that regard any offer to house us will be welcome as it brings down the price of the trip and thus of the stages. Passing this note around as much as you can would also be a welcomed help since full classes would mean lower price for everybody.

  8. Hey all, I need a word translated.

How do you call the thing that's drawn by horses that was used by roman to attack. The french word is 'char' but I can't for the life of me find the english one. Dictionary only gives me tank wich isn't appropriate in my opinion for fantasy warfare :P

Oh and if it helps orcs in WH have some of those things drawn by boars.

    Anyway thanks :)

  9. Andrea does this some times for it's minis. I think the last latorre model was also based on an other mini. so does seem to be somthing usual in the mini buisnesse :).

Not a bad thing as long as the mini looks good, and the lattore model definelty does :P

  10. Well if it is doable and gives us cooler minis for cheaper, I'm ll for it :P

That thing with mesh got me thinking. Could be cool to designe your own minis on the net or somthing like that. Go on the net to a database, assemble de mini how you want it from the existing meshes, and the a couple weeks later get it in the mailbox :D Might be the futur of minis, Limited editions of 1 :P

  11. wouldn't minis be too complex for laser sculpting ?

You probably could some stuff with it but I think most humanoid minis would still have to be sculpted by hand. Well that's from what I'v seen of laser sculpting.

the other thing is, even if technically it's possible wouldn't the time taken to draw the 3d concept on the computer be as time consuming as doing a green.

  12. I must disagree with you cedric on the uslessness of doing somthing that has already been done. Well I don't totally disagree, but at the level of painting we're talking about I don't think two minis could ever be the same.

See, part of what could make minis art is the reflexion of the painters self in the mini, in over word the fact that each paintwork can be reconized as beeing done by a specifique painter. Wich is the case with eric or anders for exemple. And as such two minis, even done with the same base idea, would never be the same. Each different painter would somthing deeply personal to his mini, making it unique. And that for me is worth doing it. Of course that is suposing the painter does want to do the mini and considers it something fun or interesting to do.

As for the folks on crea, I quit agree with you when you say that some of them will bitch and moan. But like I said if you don't paint for them there's no reason to care or to even feel like you should defend yourself. And since you like to realte to 'real' art, were would art be today if painters of the dada mouvment had listened to outraged critics ?

So in my opinion, go for it if that's what you want to do :D

The water thingy sounds like a good idea, good way to add dynamisme to a scene without tweaking the mini. Resin could be used, that's what most dioramas with such water effects are made off. I seem to recall a tutrial that used this to show the water front when the nazgul try to cross the river in the movie. All you have to do is find the right mini :P
