So, my wife and I bought the two player starter set and played all but the last mission (that we will do tomorrow) and so far we had a blast, my wife even talks about building a table of our own.
For our background, I am a long time wargamer that took a couple of years of a break, I used to be a hardcore tournament player, but now, with a kid, those days are definitely over. I like my armies to be elite (i.e. few models, hard to use, but very good), but I am not married to that. Model wise I like the rezzers and the arcanists. I recently gotten into painting and I see quite a miniature collection in my future.
My wife isn't a wargamer at all and probably will not invest a whole lot of money into it, but she is an avid gamer. In all the games we play, she always prefers close combat and well muscled demon dudes, hot chicks and monsters (especially the big stompy kind) (can you guess which side she picked in the starter set? ^^ ). She is also a beginner miniature painter and likes to take her time (so, I am guessing a huge model count is not ideal either).
We do not have any other regular opponents (at least until we breed more gamers and those grow tall enough to reach the miniatures), so we can pretty much do this at out own pace (we might go play in a store regularly when we feel comfortable with the game, my wife is very much a "if I do have to ask questions, then I only bog down the game and I don't want to be that person" gamer).
Sooooooooooo... where do we go from here? How many soulstones, what boxes, factions, masters, accessories would be ideal? (I read the pullmyfinger wiki, but it was kind of vague in regards to "elite forces" or the concrete next steps we should take)
