IntereoVivo
Wave 2 is out and I couldn't be happier with where Hamelin ended up. A huge Thank You to Wyrd and everyone involved in making the plague master awesome. I got a chance to play last night and it was a pleasure to put him on the table. Not so strong that my opponent had fits, but strong enough to hold his own. The crew has awesome synergy between it's theme models and opperates very well even with a bare bones core. Hamelin is a control boss and can take some punishment as well. And his avatar looks like a boss as well. Now that that plague has arrived, lets chat about how best to run him. My general beta build has been: Open Spoiler Outcasts Crew - 50 - ScrapHamelin -- 6 Pool +The Piper [2] +The Plague [2]The Stolen [2] Killjoy [12] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Nix [8] +Infectious Melodies [1] Obedient Wretch [4] Rat Catcher [6] This has worked out very well as a defensive space control setup. I take it for all of the strategies except Reconning since it works well at controling the center of the board. Hamelin is exceptionally good about setting up single models to die and can also pull the enemy team into a giant tarpit. Hamelin seems to warm up as the game progresses and Blighted makes its way around. Other models that work well with Hamelin in Killjoy's place are Convict Gunslingers (*w00t* Obey'ing double shots), Taelor, Friekorps and the Lost models. Especially helpful from the Lost are Candy and Crooligans. What are other model's/builds you like to take?
Hjelmen
I actually haven't played the new Hamelin at all, but I'm really stoked about finally being able to put him and his crew on the table! My initial list is something like yours, although I don't want to bring Killjoy, so I've taken some Crooligans to run schemes initially, while I get the blight engine up and running. Soo, like this: Open Spoiler Outcasts Crew - 50 - ScrapHamelin -- 5 Pool+Sewer King [1]+The Piper [2]+The Plague [2] The Stolen [2] Crooligan [4] Crooligan [4] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Malifaux Rat [2] Nix [8]+Hollow [2]+Infectious Melodies [1] Obedient Wretch [4] Rat Catcher [6] I think it'll work out pretty well, but that's just my gut-feeling; I have no practical experiences with Hamelin at all
Aramoro
I would say rats are fairly easy to come by so I'm not sure I would be hiring so many right at the start of the game. I think you'll get more value out of Tools of the Tyrant than an extra rat.
Hjelmen
You're probably right, but I already have three upgrades on Hamelin. I want to use Crooligans, so I have to take Sewer King, and both Obey and the added triggers on the Pipes from The Piper and The Plague, respectively, seem too good to pass up. I suppose that The Plague could be switched out for Tools of the Tyrant, if I wanted to play Hamelin more aggressively? I was thinking about removing two rats for a canine remains, but those probably work better in pairs. I could add another Crooligan for two rats, which might be pretty useful in getting those scheme markers out there faster.
Stany
Hi I'm playing tonight I'm going for this list I'm still very new to this and only played a couple of games (hamelin with the piper and survivalist) then (nix) (obedient wretch) (x1 rat king) (x6 rats) (rat catcher) and (desperate mercenary) that should be 50ss and a cache of 6 Please fell free to comment on if this looks good or bad really looking to learn hoping to get some stolen in early from hamelin do people make the wretch attack there own players to form rats using tossed rat? Keep her safe out the way forming rats was thinking of standing her behind hamelin and forming rats off him maybe not sure yet if that's a good idea or not? and with blighted once you get it on a player I.e blighted +1 at the end of the turn increase this condition's value by 1 so become blighted +2 does this keep going I.e at the end of next turn after go up to blighted+3 and so on? And what happens if a player is hit more than once by something that gives him blighted how does that work? Hope this makes sense it's confusing me cheers for any help

I probably should have said I was replying to the OP's list as he only had 2 upgrades on Hamlin. For you triple Crooligans is probably a nice idea. If you give them Blighted +1 against the following turn they'll got to Blighted +3 and at the end of turn tick up to Blighted +4. Basically they have 1 condition of Blighted that just ticks up or gets added to by applying more Blighted. Did that make any sense?

I.e two models hit so would it go from the two at the end of the first round as normal then with the two hits next round go to 6 not 4? hope I'm making seines with this thank you

Morgue
I completely agree with hiring 4 Rats to start instead of a single Rat King. It allows you to draw out activations turn 1-2 to see where your opponent is going, and it gives you added mobility because the Rat Catchers can pull Rats around but not Rat Kings. Once turn 3-4 rolls around, you can form them up into a King and have gained equal to more ground from the Rats than the Rat King. I'm not big on the Obedient Wretch or Killjoy with Hamelin, more in favor of Sue / Convict Gunslingers, but that's really just preference. In Tournaments I don't think you could ever really end up without Tools on the table. A heal on Hamelin, + Face the Inevitable is really just too powerful in games where you have 0 idea what's going to be across the table. And anything that gives Hamelin more interference is A-OK. Drool_bucket
I don't think I would ever hire rats at all in a Hamelin crew. (or any other Outcast crew, for that matter) They are easy enough to come by and I'd rather start with all the toys, give them blighted and just make more Rats during the game. I've managed to play games with THEMATIC Hamelin and not start with a single Rat, nor summon any, and still get ahead in VP by the end of the game (I think I was using Canine Remains off of Nix's Hollow to make up the weight). So yes, I can attest that Drool's method is also sound haha ~Lil Kalki
IntereoVivo
I'll have to try the Rat-less Hamelin and see how he runs. I'm also going to try replacing the Obedient Wretch. Right now I just use it for Bleeding Disease spam and ticking up Blighted by getting it within 3" of models. How do people handle blasts? I feel like Wong and Raspy are going to give me fits. Also, any good non-theme builds?

Also, any good non-theme builds? Take Nix's upgrade and keep her safe behind a bigger model's base, or cover. I don't know how much damage Wong can put out, but Raspy and Sonnia will still be able to kill of models one at the time. Still, it keeps the collateral damage in check! I am also thinking about what "none-theme" models to bring with Hamelin. I don't think that there is anyone that stands out, but several Outcasts models can fill holes depending on the strategy, and scheme pool. The Specialist, Gunslinger, Killjoy (with the infectious melodies delivery system), and the Librarian should work!
Stany
Played the other night why would you not start with 3 stolen and straight off the bat turn them to x6 rats you getting x3 rats for free first turn and hamelin goes after at least one of them and forms another stolen? That's six SS saved that I would spend on upgrades
SpiralngCadavr
You'll be getting 1 rat each when they die by enemy attacks, which require the enemy using attacks and possibly getting paralyzed. If the enemy doesn't deal with them, they have a pretty good ability that doesn't require/allow any tests, so your opponent is probably forced to attack. Seems worth a rat to me, but if you don't care about that aspect, yes, you get more rats more quickly.

I have been playing Guild and finding that I'm getting shot at a lot and the three inch on horrible realisation has not come into play I have also been leaving hamelin back a bit using obey on the piper and bleeding disease a lot and not getting him up the table leaving one lost next to him to add in with with his bleeding disease witch I have found has scared off most things coming at hamelin late game and it also gives him a bit of insurance with lure of emptiness. I also have given hamelin the upgrade survivalist do you get Hamelin a bit more stuck in? as I've been worried about him getting beaten to death with lady j and Sonia's burning I've not played much and learning thanks for any advice loving this crew does not seem that many people playing Hamelin just ordered killjoy and a couple of gunslingers to try and change it about a bit I think I try and protect stuff too much cheers

Together with Tools he can be a real pain to get rid of. Nevertheless, I would not want him in melee with Lady J or something in the likes of her. Get him in their when his victims got blighted +3 and beat them with the sthik! Use his bag of tricks to deny what your opponent is trying to do, while achiving your strat and schemes. Remember that Hamelin is, if you whis, immune to any condition applied to him, Nix too, so burning is nothing to be scared of.
IntereoVivo
Stany, I think there are actually quite a few Hamelin players. At least, judging by the number of players involved in discussion during the beta, it seems like he is a favorite. Guild is a bit of an issue, as is any shooting crew. But remember that you have a great lure off Hamelin that (given Plague) can move someone their Walk + 2x Charge, leaving them with Blight +3 or Blight +1 and 2 - 8 dmg. If that triggers fairly early and moves a tough enemy model to within 3" of Stolen/Obedient Wretch Blighted will go up when they activate, meaning their now a great target for Bleeding Disease. Nothing like spaming Bleeding Disease at a model with Blight 6 and 6 Wounds. Even if they only end up with Blight 3/4 that means you should have little trouble killing them. As Ezyryder mentions, Hamelin is good at messing with his opponent and screwing up their plan. This frees up the rest of your crew to achieve your own schemes and strategies. Cornelious1424
I'm excited to try the Hamelin "Evil Baby Orphanage List", using Crooligans, Candy, Cade, Iggy and Stolen. No, but Hamelins summon does (0) Lure Malifaux Citizen: (Ca 6C / TN: 14): Summon one The Stolen into base contact with this model and then sacrifice all friendly non-The Stolen Totems.
