Uktena Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Friend of mine picked up the Viks and tried em out tonight. Aside from Taelor going haywire and smashing us flat he ran the crew through just about all their native tricks. It's a crew that we can both see being very formulaic and I was wondering if anybody has recommendations for models or combinations that open up different strategies. Quote

Carasz Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I've had both good and bad results using Hans as a ranged support. SoC can give him a third shot, making fire lines forces enemies to group up behind cover (and the Viks like their whirlwind). I've been thinking of getting a convict gunslinger, friekorps librarian and Vanessa for my next addition. Heard they could be good in the crew. Quote

Fetid Strumpet Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Add Hans and possibly Killjoy. Killjoy is a neat add because then you can do part of the sisters dance and really move the student of conflict up the board. And if anyone actually manages to kill a sister, or more likely the student, out pops killjoy. Quote

Gorbad Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 I think its only formulaic as long as your opponent doesn't interfere. A lot of the time there movement and activation tricks are needed to be used differently to not have them be killed early. I'd also recommend bringing Vanessa as she opens up for more options with the sisters upgrades. I could also see virtually all the Friekorps models being good, especially the specialist, Hannah and the Librarian. Quote

EnternalVoid Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 You can be surprised by the little differences you can get with the Viks just on upgrade selection. That said if you want to start expanding outside their box two of the models I would suggest would be the Convict Gunslinger and Sue *though Sue might be able to wait till his rules are Finalized in Wave 2 but he has not changed for a while*. While Hans also gives some range to the group I feel he is better if you have a battle plan with him, where Sue and the Convict are both more flexible on their rules and can aid in the combat portion as well and thus a better starting point in expanding outward. After those two I would say Johan is a nice model to pick up, he can replace a Ronin for one more stone *or be a weaker Taelor for 3 less stones* and brings Condition removal option to your crew while still having a noteworthy melee. Gorbad Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 It might also be interesting to look at Oiran or Performers for some Lure type spells and buffs (Oiran) and debuffs (Performer). Quote

Mouseketeer Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 I've tried a bunch of stuff.. Void wretches: Solid scheme cappers Freikorps: The Librarian (healing + a bit of ranged support) and trapper are pretty solid.. The strongarm suit was underwhelming.. haven't given the specialist a run yet Oiran: struggled with this one.. Potentially using her agressively to stop her hitting stuff is good.. The lure just relied on a decent crow(?) that I never seemed to have when I wanted to lure something though.. for 6ss she got the chop. Gunslinger: Eh, not BAD, not great.. just shorter range than he needs Bishop: solid Taelor replacement. Worth considering Hans: Expensive @ 8ss better than the trapper - but you need to be able to afford him Vanessa: 3rd sister + heal + ranged support & decent melee is solid!! Still wanna try Killjoy, Hannah, a few other b1ts and sh1ts... Mouse Quote
