M2E Masters Tournament Rules

Tournament Organizer

The Tournament Organizer, or TO, is the sole authority at Malifaux tournaments. TOs are expected to be fair and equitable in their adjudication of debates and rules questions. Regardless of the outcome, a TO’s decision is final. Players are encouraged to work out simple rules disputes among themselves because the round clock does not stop while waiting for the TO to answer questions.

Sportsmanship

Malifaux is designed to be fun for all players. Players are expected to behave civilly and respectfully at all times. When asked, players should provide the information and statistics for models as well as any additional public information. Activations should be played in a timely manner, and players should allow opponents to

cut their Decks.

Warning System

Players are given a single warning when their behavior toward other players or the TO is considered unacceptable. If the behavior persists, and the TO determines the player to be a disruption to the tournament, it is within the TO’s authority to disqualify the player from the tournament. Don’t be that player.

Cheating

There is zero tolerance for cheating (other than Cheating Fate, which is, of course, encouraged). If the TO determines that a player is cheating, the player will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.

Player Responsibility

Players are responsible for providing:

• Crew models

• Rulebooks and Official Wyrd printed Stat Cards

• Official Fate Deck(no custom decks to be used)

• Measuring tape

• Counters/Markers/Tokens

Proxy Rules

Proxies (substitute models) are not allowed under any circumstances, nor can a player enter a tournament with a model that has not yet been released to the general public. Printed Stat Cards may not be used; players must physically possess the official up-to-date versions for tournaments. All models with official cards released by the date of the tournament are available for use.

Conversion Rules

Conversions are an excellent way to show off your modeling skills. Original sculpts are allowed if the TO deems them to be accurate representations of the models portrayed. If using a model that was converted with manufactured pieces, no more than 33% of the finished model may be built using other game companies’ models, while the rest must be either wholly or a combination of original sculpt or Wyrd-manufactured pieces.

Painting Rules

Your models do not have to be painted but they have to be properly assembled and securely based.

Painting Contest

All tournament participants will vote for the best single painted model. The Tournament Organizer will determine the winner for tie breaking purposes. You can enter any Wyrd Malifaux model into the contest. It doesn’t have to be one that you used in the tournament.

I made some adjustments to the following sections of the rules listed in the OP.

Proxy Rules

A player may proxy no more than one unreleased model in their crew. The proxy model must at least resemble the model it is substituting and be of the correct base size. Players that are electing to proxy an unreleased model must have their model approved by the TO before they can use the model in the tournament. It is preferable for the player to contact the TO in advance of the tournament to discuss their proxy rather than wait until the day of the tournament and have their proxy potentially not approved. You must have an official Wyrd stat card for your proxy. You cannot proxy Wave 1 or 2 models that are currently still available for purchase on-line or at your LGS in the old metal version.

Wyrd Approved PDF Stat Cards

Wyrd official approved stat cards released on their forum in the form of a PDF can be printed and used in the tournament. You must be able to mark and remove the damage on the stat cards. The printed PDF cards can be laminated or a plastic top loader can be used to place the card inside. Worse case a clear piece of tape can be placed over the wound boxes so they can be marked and removed with a dry erase device. Dice or any other markers will not be allowed to simulate damage on a model.

Conversion Rules

Conversions are an excellent way to show off your modeling skills. If using a model that was converted with manufactured pieces, no more than 33% of the finished model may be built using other game companies’ models, while the rest must retain the original sculpt. You may convert a model using 100% Wyrd products but 50% of the model must retain its original sculpt. All converted models have to be approved by the TO preferably before the day of the tournament. If you wait until the day of the tournament be prepared for the possibility that your converted model may not be approved.

A slight revision was made to the Strategy and Deployment Zones for each strategy. The new information reflects the Gaining Grounds 2014 document. The OP was edited as well.

Thanks again Brett for running such an awesome tournament.  If anyone is on the forums that is local to Chicagoland and haven't participated in a tournament at G+ that he runs, you are doing yourself a huge disservice.  Great time, great people, and great tables as well.  And this is coming from the guy who ended up dead last!  :D

It was a very nice turn out. There were quite a few match-ups between some of our best players. The games were exciting to watch. I appreciated seeing some of our Milwaukee guys make the drive down. Thanks to everyone that took the time out to eat some donuts and play Malifaux all day J

On to the highlights……..

Tournament Results

1st Place

Victor Szafranski – Guild

He played Perdita for all three rounds. He had a close one point win against Lady Justice in round one. He defeated Hamelin overwhelmingly in round two. He beat Pandora by one point in round three to finish 3-0 and tournament champion!

2nd Place

Joe Deheve – Neverborn

Joe played summoning Dreamer for all three rounds. He had some unbelievable luck in summoning a plethora of models for most of the rounds. At one point he had about 16 model cards in front of him during a game. The Dreamer dispatched Tara in round one. He ran into a very savvy Pandora player who forced a tie on round two. The Dreamer got back on track and won round three against Perdita to finish 2-0-1.

3rd Place

Chuck the Painter - Guild

Chuck is one of our long time players who we have not seen in quite a while. It was nice to see him back in action. Chuck started off behind the eight ball losing a one point game in round one with his Lady Justice against Victor's Perdita. It is always disheartening to start a tournament with a loss but Chuck showed how resilient he is by staying focused and getting wins in the final two rounds. He used Sonia Crid to defeat the Vicki's in round two and ended the tournament with a win against Colette. Nice job Chuck!

4th Place

John Hartigan – Neverborn

An Honorable Mention has to go out to John even though no prizes are awarded for 4th place. John won his first two games playing Pandora defeating Perdita in round one and Jacob Lynch defeating Rasputina in round two. He found himself playing for first place against Victor's Perdita in round three losing by only a point. Unfortunately he lost out to Chuck for third place by one point in the differential category tiebreaker. He ended up having a USA Hockey experience, a chance for Gold but finished 4th.  Better luck next time!

Sportsmanship Award

Rick Kowal – Guild

Rick Kowal had a tough day at the office finishing last but he did it with class! An Honorable Mention goes out to Rick Christian who finished one spot ahead. Rick Christian used this event to make a return to Malifaux with his Outcast crew after a long break. We all know how daunting it can be to have your first games back occur during a tournament. I am sure our two Rick's will be planning their future triumphs at our next event. Watch out for these guys!

Painting Contest

The top two tournament players continued their dominance by repeating their performance in the painting competition.

1st Place

Victor Szafranski – The Guild's Peacekeeper

2nd Place

Joe Deheve – Neverborn's Nightmare Edition Teddy

Raffle Prizes

Numerous Malifaux items were handed out, giving everyone a chance at some nice prizes.

List of masters played by faction.

Guild – Perdita, Lady Justice, Sonia Crid

Neverborn – Pandora, Dreamer, Jacob Lynch

Outcast – Von Shill, Hamelin, Victoria's

Arcanist – Marcus, Rasputina, Colette

Resserectionist – Tara

Gremlins – None

Ten Thunder - None

Pictures of the event to follow....

Until next time………Kirk out!
