Heroes and Legends M2E Tournament: The Deathmark Ruby 16th Nov 2013

Word started driftin' round th' streets of Malifaux a few weeks back. There's a certain soulstone they says, lost in the wilds south of the city. Some ses it's been present at the deaths of over a hundred difrent convicts, some say more. Some say that it could power a division of peacekeepers for better part of a century, all by isself. Course thems jus rumours. Same kinda rumours as bought me here, an you too mos likely. Rumours as always promise adventure, but end in a bar with nuthin t'show forrit. What chance does anyone have of finding a single stone in a desert? Pah! Rather try lookin fer a drink at the honeypot. Now that's an adventure won't go wrong!

Everyone in Malifaux has heard rumours of a stone of great power lost in the deserts south of the city. While most see this as nothing more than the standard bar-room talk that floats across the underbelly of the city every few months, there is a detail that brings truth to the rumour. A name that comes from the first time the breach was opened: The Deathmark Ruby.

Not many have read the books that mention this stone, but those that have set out to risk all on the offchance that the stone could be found and used to further their factions ends. The stone's whereabouts is uncertain, but it is clear that blood will be shed in the search for it.

Welcome to the thread for the Deathmark Ruby, a one day Malifaux story tournament at Heroes and Legends Croydon on the 16th November 2013. For more details contact the store here:

Strategies and Schemes:

"We have found the area rumoured to contain the Ruby. Giles has started sending out the workers to scout the area, while Marshall and Georgio set up the camp with Daphne (the archeologist. Lovely girl). Sebastian has closed himself into his tent, poring over the documents. It's been a long time since he let anyone see them. I'm glad I was careful enough to make a copy when he first showed them to me"

Game 1: Reconnoiter

Protect Territory

Bodyguard

Entourage

Plant Evidence

"We have been surprised by just how harsh the conditions are out here. Apart from the obvious issues with working in the badlands (the weather is terrible, and not at all condusive to archeology), there are regular attacks on our workforce. We have been grateful on numerous occasions that we had the forethought to bring Captain Justine and her freebooters, who have been consolidating our positions and providing excellent protection for our work teams"

Game 2: Stake a claim

Outflank

Vendetta

Distract

Breakthrough

"Recently attacks on our work teams have been increasing. Sebastian has refused to come out of his tent at all and is no longer accepting food or drink. The last man who tried to enter was hit round the back of the head with a heavy object. We have posted guards on both entrances, and I'm waiting for Captain Justine to get back from her tour of the work sites. She has had extra duties to attend to since Giles and Gerogeo went missing with Corporal Eugine's patrol. It's all a bit more dangerous than I'd imagined"

Game 3: Reckoning

Make them suffer

Frame for Murder

Plant evidence

Breakthrough

"It seems like all out war has broken out. The work teams are revolting, how long my colleages have been plotting is beyond me. Sebastian managed to escape. He knocked out one of the guards and bolted into the night. His tent is despicable. It must be the deathmark. I can't believe these people were always like this. It's affecting them somehow. Is it affecting me? Justine is coming, I can hear her. She probably wants the map. The Ruby has control over her. I must keep the map safe. No-one can have the Deathmark. It will destroy..."

Game 4: Turf War

Distract

Cursed Object

Protect Territory

Assassinate

General Rules for the day

Each player must declare their faction and may bring a pool of up to 60SS to hire their crew from. Each game will be 40 SS and will last 90 minutes and regular time updates will be given. At the 90 minute point you will be asked to finish the activation you are on and calculate your victory points for that game, before being given your new opponent. If you have any rules Queries first check your rulebooks, then with a Tournament Organiser and if none of us have the answer, flip for it.

Hiring

Each player may bring a pool of 60 Soul Stones from which they will hire their crew before each game. As the schemes and strategies are pre-selected it is suggested that you have some idea of what crew you will take for each round before the 16th, as that will speed up the selection process (that's why we gave you them ahead of time). Your pool can include up to 2 masters from your declared faction, and even if you have a dual faction master, all of your games will be fought as that declared faction. Summoned models do not need to be payed for out of your pool, unless you intend to hire them as part of your crew. Upgrades also form part of your pool, so spend those soulstones wisely.

Have fun and remember this is about storytelling. Whether you win or lose, have some great moments to tell people about.

Prize details to come, but for now if you have any questions, get in contact with me, or with the guys at Heroes and Legends.
