Kaled
Evening all, I have a metal Lilith crew and have been thinking about how I might convert a model for Barbaros. One option could be to start with a Young Nephilim and add some armour and weapons. Alternatively I'm happy to convert a non-Wyrd model, but am on the lookout for one that has a similar look to the metal Nephilim so as to make converting him as easy as possible. So does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Dave
Phototoxin
Just wait until the 22nd (2 weeks time) and get the plastic one?
Kaled
Isn't the plastic one only available in the boxed set? Since I already have a Lilith crew I'm looking around for other options to avoid buying a whole box to get just one model...
LordDarcy
I also would like to purchase a Barbaros in plastic without purchasing the entire box set. A close or only slightly converted proxy would also be great.
Phototoxin
Perhaps convert a mature nephilim and give it a sword from something (warhammer bloodletter sword looks good)
Kaled
So is Barbaros closer in size to a Mature Nephilim? I guess I'd assumed he was just a little larger than a Young and no whey near as big as a Mature... I don't suppose anyone has a photo that shows a size comparison between Barbaros and the Young & Mature?
Enazel
Maybe http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_10_23 one of those
Carnage82
From reading the rule book it sounds like Barbaros is more inline with a young instead of a mature. Im looking at either a young or a lelu for the base of my conversion
Phototoxin
Yeah you're right, on second reading he's more like a really angry teeny nephiliam rather than the full on chainsaw & hockey mask killer of the mature.
Q'iq'el
The change in style is even bigger of a problem than the availability of the minis, I think. I've been a big proponent of going plastic and I kind of appreciate that the miniatures' style is more consistent now, but I liked the original Malifaux minis the most and I feel the new Brood departs a bit too far from that. Look at metal Young Nephilim - they look almost playful as they approach their opponents, while the CG shot of Barbaros looks like he belonged in the Ten Thunders and new Lilith is spiteful, if anything (not a bad sculpt, I think, just not the image of Neverborn queen relishing the combat, she used to be). Anyway, IMHO for the old metal crews it'd be easiest to pick up some proxy from the offer of the original sculptors. The style is often very similar. Wasn't the original Lilith crew commissioned from Werner Klocke? There's a multitude of female demon sculpts of his that'd fit the bill (even if you leave out all the naked girls ) and quite a few male candidates from his vampires and such. I believe Dark Age has a few of demons of his (Gazelle comes to mind and is a stunning model) and his female anti-paladin (Cassiata?) is a very nice armored model, fighting with human weapons and still fit for a Lilith crew, I think. His Chaos Champion seems to fit the bill perfectly for a male character armed and a good fit for a former pit-fighter Neverborn (other than lack of wings), but I'm not sure if it still available. ---------- Post added at 10:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:00 AM ---------- Here's the link for the champion: https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/chaos-champion.html Edited October 13, 2013 by Q'iq'el
Kaled
Thanks for those suggestions. The Dark Age Gazelle is certainly a good option for a female Barbaros - I could add hooves and horns easily enough, and armour wouldn't be too difficult either. I'd need to shop around for some wings and a suitable sword but I think it's do-able. I'll keep looking for other options, but this is my favourite so far... brib4169
Reaper, dark age, and helldorado all have a lot of demon minis. As far as his specific weapon... maybe try bitz from the WHF lizardmen. Edited October 13, 2013 by brib4169
Ozz
As far as a size comparison, Barbaros is a slightly more muscular Young nephilim with bigger wings. However, all the box sets, Liliths included come with all the models on separate sprews (The things that come in packs of three are all together, then other models are separate ) so it is entirely possible that there is just going to be a delayed release of the individual parts later on. I obviously have no idea if this is true, but the difference between the book 4 plastic box sets and M2E ones lets me think this is to be true. dmeep
The dark age kukulkani (sp?) and some of the new helldorado lost have aztec/mayan theme so they should have models with that type of clubs availeble so it depends on whats a cheaper source of bits. Bitstores for GW parts should win out but otherwise a single blister of kukulkani should beat a full box of lizardmen my problem is i dont like the nephilim look either way new or old sculpts. Anyone have any tips of the top of their head for a line of demons or similar with 3 sisez tot young and mature? was thinking about the nurglings plaugebearers and a great unclean one but it fits poorly with lilith (bit of the same problem that the wyrd nephilim has imo) i could possibly stomach the metal one if someone could suggest a headswap
