Adran
Here is a rough breakdown of my 5 games at the GT last weekend. Soem games had more memorable moment than others (surprise surprise I remember more fun things in games I won) but all 5 opponents were great fun to play against. I ended up 8th with 3 wins and 2 losses, which I'm pretty happy with and managed to steal best Arcanist player by a better points difference of 1. Game 1 Beat down Vs Pox (Phil) Mei feng Coryphée Willie Rail Golem. Spider Lilith Tuco 2 Ronin Hooded rider Turn 1 saw Tuco sneak up to my Rail golem, and then transposition out to be replaced by an unactivated Ronin. Despite my best attempts the ronins hard to kill kept it alive long enough to activate, and its magical armour ignoring sword was able to cut the golem apart (it did die in the explosion). Lilith chased after the duet, and managed to win the important initiative flip to get to attack before its defences were up, no more coryphee (and not much hope for the last 3 points on my train line). The rest of the board saw a bloodbath occur with Mei managing to kill the ronin and Tuco at the cost of Willie and the Spider, and after Lilith killed the Duet and moved back she was left with the choice, to try and kill Lilith (who had activated), or the uninjured un activated hooded rider with Noon up. I went for the Hooded, and killed it with 1 attack, but then lost initiative again and Lilith with stones beats mei with out every time. 1-7 Game 2 Line in the sand against Mark Colette Duet Performer/Mannequin Blessed Johan Lady justice Justice Executioner 3 Riflemen 2 Wastrels 2 hounds We discovered part way through the game Mark had mis-read frame for murder as he just thought I had to kill the model, not kill it with my master. Mark was very generously making sure I knew I was attacking the frame for murder target with my blessed. Riflemen aren't very good with birds... Mark managed to fail Harmless against my doves, and when they got into hand to hand, he had to cheat in a red joker to make sure he could kill it so the others could shoot. The manoverability of the crew just meant I could avoid most of the firing lanes (Although poor Johan was about 1.5" from cover when the 3 riflemen opened up on him. Didn't go well for him) I got 1 stick lit on turn 1, and from then on was able to get 4 points in the 5 scoring turns by keeping Justice tied up on one side and completely controlling the other. Justice did live, and demonstrated her worth when she killed the Duet in turn 5, but it was too little to late, as it had already completed power ritual, and I could use doves to prevent her getting to Colette and stopping my bodyguard. 8-2 Game 3 Treasure Hunt vs Martin Marcus Jackolope Rail Golem Blessed of December 2 Night terrors Shikome Colette Cassandra duet performer/mannequin Dove Important moments Turn 1 I sent Marcus after Cassandra, but then got reminded that IO can't charge her turn 1, so instead charged the Performer next to her. Cassandra then activated and set fire to Marcus. I foolishly asked if Martin wanted any blast markers to hit his crew, and he then decided that he did. Dead performer = reactivated Cassandra = dead Marcus. Colette then turned my rail golem into a Mannequin next turn. My attempt to shield the treasure with Night terrors was not quite enough to allow me to pick it up and run away, especially due to the bonus activation of Cassandra on the first turn. I think I held on till about turn 4 before I finally lost everything, which was just enough to prevent Martin getting a full 4 points for the treasure (he failed the flip for an extra turn), which in the end was the difference between him and me for best Arcanist player. 0-7 Game 4 Master of the Hill vs Darren Rasputina Essence of power Snowstorm Ice Golem Wille Johan Blessed of December Colette Coryphée duet Cassandra 2 Performer/Mannequins Johan Darren seemed to be fairly new to Colette. we talked a little before hand about schemes and I said how I often did power ritual with the duet as it was pretty good at it, so he went for that, and they way he went for it meant he failed to form the duet on turn 1, but was ready to do so on turn 2 (I thought this would be fine it was well away from me). Turn 1 I used snowstorm to put the Ice Golem in the middle of the table before I activated it, as well as everything else 6" forward and used Rasputina to target a mannequin and blast onto the linked performer so they both died (2 of the 3 models needed for reflections of December). I also got ice pillars between me and Colette. Willie set some snares to deter Cassandra sneaking up. Darrens Johan broke one pillar and Colette got to the gap and turned my poor Ice golem into a Mannequin before it even activated. The Blessed Leap in, hit Colette a little and made her use some stones. Turn 2 I started off with the blessed attacking Colette, to try and stop her being able to turn Snowstorm into a mannequin as well. He got Colette's defensive trigger on the first attack and swapped with a coryphée. The Blessed was able to use its melee expert to kill the coryphée. I used Willie to drop more dynamite near Cassandra and then set it off, unfortunately I only had 1 tome in hand, and neither flip was a tome, but it at least forced a damage prevention flip. Further attacks on Cassandra used up yet more stones, and by the time Colette was back near the middle she didn't have the stones to go for more disappearing acts. Turn 3 Cassandra managed to use the breath fire to good effect on Johan, and getting blast damage off onto the Blessed and snowstorm. But was unable to kill snowstorm. Rasputina was able to kill in the middle, leaving the lone coryphée trying to complete the power ritual. All she had left was Snowstorm on 1 wound and her in perfect health. I needed to try and get 1 more kill through Ice mirrors, but it was not to be, the coryphée decided to kill snowstorm, at the cost of their own life before I could kill them myself. 6-1 Game 5 Land grab vs Bruno Mei Feng Rail Golem Kaeris Ama No Zaki 2 Union Miners Rail worker Emberling Moleman Lady Justice Lucius Nino watcher 2 hounds 2 wastrel Austringer Brutal effigy (this is illegal- don't mix special forces at home kids) I tried to hide my force in a cloud of steam to keep everything safe. It worked for the first turn, but loss of initiative on the second turn meant Nino was able to turn Kaeris into a pile of mush. I sent my miners and molemen down the right flank, Bruno sent his hounds and watchers past them. The Rail golem was able to get a re-activate off on the second turn and get a charge on Nino, killing him, and threatening to put a big hole in the middle of the guild forces. Justice moved up too try and plug it, but the golem survived. The linked emberling was able to use his scalding breath to kill off the brutal effigy and hurt Justice and the wastrel badly. Brunos moving of the dogs to avoid my miners/moleman moved them just a little too far, and Ama No zaki was able to kill one of them, drastically reducing the strength of his mobile forces. Mei went after the austringer, getting a little damage on it. Turn 3 saw Justice kill the rail golem, and take the explosion. It also hurt lucius and killed a wastrel. Ama no zaki killed off the watcher and the dog and managed to survive the watcher slow to die strike in return and moved up to intercept Justice and Lucius. The Rail worker made good use of his weapon to attack Lucius, starting with Paired weapons to overcome his authority, and ready with the threat of no slow to die action option. Unfortunately I kill him on a paired strike, and the slow to die heal ends up being a red joker. Basically I feed everything into that fight except the miners and the molemen to protect my hold out. I managed to kill everything but justice (lucius even stayed dead this time), and lose everything, but it was enough to let me score the full 8 points. 8-
theJudge
I thoroughly enjoyed my game against you Phil, even if I did get beaten badly. One thing I did take away from the game is that I no longer have a desire to play Collette as her style just doesnt seem to be for me. This probably sounds like a bad thing but if means I can asign my monies to other places
Adran
Glad you enjoyed it, and whilst I had the upper hand on the dynamite I knew that you were always close to it. A bad flip or two from me could have changed things signifigantly most of the way through the game. A loose justice normally spells bad news for my crew Glad to have saved you money, and after having seen too many of my crew put on dresses this event, glad that there is not more colette players out there. Mike3838
Thanks for the writeup - I enjoyed reading it. I found your crew selection very interesting, particularly the mashup lists. As for Colette, I have a feeling that Mannequin replacement isn't going to make it into her M2E incarnation.... We can hope anyway!
