Hey ...

I will be uploading my photos to Photobucket to post onto forum threads. But I was wondering how you go about resizing the images to shrink down for viewing on forums.

I have come across a problem. As I can insert the photo with no size editing at all using the BBcode (...). And due to the fact the original photos are LARGE I tried adding in formating to reduce the size.

I have used two different ways of resizing the image

  1. Using the pixel number; 100x50
  2. And also a longer version; [img width=100" height="50]

Both of these I got off www.bbcode.org website.

But after typing in the format and pressing 'Preview Post' the image did not show in the preview. Just showed the BBcode text. Even though from what I could see the code was correct ... it makes no sense :-\

Can any one help me?

Cheers in advance

I tend to open the file in microsoft office picture manager, and there's a tool in there where you can just shrink them down to "large" "medium" or "small", and it just resizes it for you. You then save the resized version, and upload that to photo bucket. I imagine other picture editors (photo shop, GIMP etc) have similar functions

I believe also that Photobucket has an option to link thumbnails of the pictures that are clickable links to larger versions of each picture. That's pretty neat for forums, as it doesn't bog down the loading of a thread with big pictures, but still allows you to keep the full size of the originals.

Personally I use picasa and it's builtin editor and just shrink the pictures slightly, also removing all the dead, white space around the minis, since that's not really interesting.

@Daemonchild

If there is a way to link with thumbnails on PhotoBucket could you show/tell us?

If it no trouble

@sssk

Cheers, I shall try that and look into it

Thanks to both

Sorted it, I had to change the settings in PhotoBucket

In Photobucket (at least in the old interface that I still use) you can generate link for thumbnail, and for full size pic.

Go to your album, select the pic, and at the bottom you have "Choose Action" link. Click on it, choose the last option ("Generate link codes for selected") and chooose which ever you want.

Here is example of thumbnail:

Example of full size:

If any case if you take photos with a camera that produces large photos, resize them down using some picture editing software. Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) is awesome, free, and has 90% of the capabilities you get in photoshop. I resize to 1200px width (or 1200px height if it's a portrait oriented pic) and upload to photobucket resized.

There is also a great utility for bulk picture resizing like the one found here:

Just install, right click on a photo, and choose resize. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the help :-)

Amnd I got Photobucket to show me BBcode to put up thumbanils. But a new problem has occured. As when I viewed the thread just, and selected the an image, it opened in a new tab/window - good start.

But ...

It was the same size as the thumbnail, I thought it would open to the full size image. So I am guessing I need to edit the BBcode image'link with the 'Direct' link to the orginal image?

As that is what I am going to try :-P

EDIT

And it worked ... finally sorted
