aaronm Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 My friends and I are running a grow league (20ss the first month, 25ss the second, etc) and I'm going to be playing Som'er. I have played only one match with Som'er but have bought most of the Gremlins and Pigs over the last two years. I'm dedicating the rest of this year to only playing Gremlins. I'll run Ophelia with the gunline so I'm going to go hog wild with Som'er and run a pig list for the league. How's this for the start of the pig list and my first match tomorrow? Outcasts Crew - 20 - Scrap Som'er Teeth Jones -- 3 Pool 1 Giant Mosquito [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Malifaux Rat [2ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] What do you think? I've read the tacticas but I'm still a little hazy on where to start with a list. BTW - where did the sticky tactica threads go or am I missing them? They used to be at the front of the post list and I don't see them anymore.... Feel free to follow the posts about the league at my gaming group's blog, Live to Crush. Thanks for the help! Quote
Agreen53 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I can't say this is a terrible list with Somer as the master. I think the biggest issue you might run into are melee list. Quote
aaronm Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 So I played a match last night against Perdita. It went well despite losing since I was very close to winning. I delivered my message in turn two so I was out to an early lead but in the end she killed Som'er so I didn't make Bodyguard and lost. The entire time I turned out new gremlins, used the pigs as a distraction and worked on my objectives. In total I only put a few wounds on his models. I wasn't focused at all on killing him, just trying to get my objectives and stop his. The list worked well but I'm going to tweak for the next match. I'm going to drop the rat since it only healed one mozzie when it was sacrificed. I made a gremlin every turn but only managed to make one more mozzie so the rat was a waste of points. My next match in the league is 25 points. I think I'll drop the rat, take a whisperer and a second mozzie or maybe a war pig. Quote
Dumb Luck Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 The Whisperer would be the best bet at this point. Giving Piglets flight is very handy. He also allows you to have a Piglet become significant and THEN reactivate it, allowing it to interact with objectives. Pretty handy stuff. Just be sure to keep it safe! Quote
Omenbringer Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 If you are planning on running Som'er pig heavy then you will need a Hog Whisperer, a pigapult or a Taxidermist (not all in the same list necessarily) to amp them up a bit. These are the lynch pin models that really allow the pigs to shine (in conjunction with Skeeters). The Hog Whisperer as Dumb Luck points out, gives them flight (which dramatically improves there threat range), provides guarantied healing and some stampede control as well as allowing reactivate. He is where I would start. After that the Pigapult allows you to Launch the piglets way up field so they can start harrying your opponents crew on turn 1 (be careful of the non-cheatable Df flip for a safe landing though). The Taxidermist is another great support model though for a very different reason, he allows recycling. The Stuffed Piglets are a great model, and if you go this route then I might recommend taking a very hard look at the "Bacon Bombing Assasination Run" tactic (let me know if you have any questions about it). The taxidermist also makes the War pig a bit of a better investment as he will provide three corpse counters (in a neat little pile) for recycling into stuffed piglets. The list you have posted up there is much closer to a "balanced" list that will look to "transition" to the others in game than a pure pig list. It is very similar to the lists that I run (and forms the core of pretty much any list I run) however it can take a bit of getting used to really figure out the timing of when to do what or when to change tactics.
