GreenMonkey Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Hi Guys, First time poster long time lurker. Here is the beginnings of my Jakob Lynch crew I'm using for a tournament in Australia next weekend. Hopefully can add a few more things to it this week before the time comes. Note I've used Collette's Avatar minis as Beckoners given the real ones have only just been released. I think their look suits Jakob's theme quite well, particularly with the playing cards for the one on the left. I also played around a bit with the airbrush on the Hungry Hippo. Pretty pleased with the results! Only got a depleted (I'm using a zombie from the board game Zombiecide given I've not been able to get my hands on this mini yet) and 2 stitched together left to paint and my crew should be close to done. Any comments/criticism/questions are welcome! GM Quote
Neil of Orange Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 These look great. I like the overall crew colour palette, tying them in together nicely. I like the scenic bases and the purple surrounds too (great use of the new transparents). Quote
underdog6750 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Have to admit im usually not a fan of the coloured (transparent) bases. But they really suit your crew. Really nicely painted. And the collette as a proxy really fits the dark debts theme Really nice work there Quote
mistercactus Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Mate, those look awesome! Never seen huggy done in purple before, but it works really well, and I think that might be the way to go when I finally get around to painting my own crew. Quote
Demonn Agram Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Awesome looking crew! Well done! Quote
Bigkid Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Loving the comic book style of painting and it's the first time I've seen the coloured bases used as actual bases (I used mine as corpse/scrap counters) and I wasn't sure they'd look good but it suits the theme perfectly. Top stuff! Quote
Inquisitor Wall Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 I really like the combination of the transparent and scenic bases. They look really cool. Quote
GreenMonkey Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I was a bit sceptical about using the purple coloured bases having not seen them being used before. Was fairly happy with how they tied the whole crew together in the end. Given each of the minis I used were quite individual in their own right it was going to be a challenge to make them look like a cohesive crew. In the end the purples, greys and bleached bones did loosely tie them all together. @bigkid. Interesting your description of my style as "comic book". I definitely tend to agree! I try to use bright bold colours just to make everything stand out that bit more on the tabletop! Thanks heaps for the feedback! Will hopefully post up a pic of my stitched togethers and depleted in a few days. I'm also working on pandora as one of the games in this tournament will be a brawl. Quote
ttsgosadow Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Looks very good! The Colette's look evil Nice paintjob, and wonderfull looking bases. Quote
GreenMonkey Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Double post... Damn it! Edited January 20, 2013 by GreenMonkey Quote
Viruk Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 That has to be the best DD crew I've seen so far. You actually managed to make HD look pretty nice which is a huuuge achievement. Quote
Lord Shaper Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I saw it when you posted it on Wargamer AU and it's a fantastic crew... I wish I could be at Cancon to see it in person Quote
Evilbleachman Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Such an outstanding crew! Very well done! Quote
i_was_like_you Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 I really like the combination of the transparent and scenic bases. They look really cool. They really do. Has me considering, for dual faction 10T models, to have half and half of each of their faction colors for translucent bases. Too bad they haven't made actual orange ones yet. Maybe by GenCon they will. Quote

Maybe by GenCon they will. If they make orange bases, I will have to rebase every model of mine. >.> Orange zombies, FTW!!! I use the translucent bases for in game markers though. Green for ressurrectionist related counters and markers like corpses or body parts. Gold for generic scheme/strategy related ones, red for scrap counters and purple for eye markers and those nifty thingies a'Dora summons. Quote

I've been seeing a lot of good uses for the translucent bases, but I would like them better if they were available without the slots in the middle. Now that all of the models will be plastic, the slots don't have any tabs that would just be dropped in for quick play. Quote
ThatDarnSatan Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Wow! Great work. I'm shocked at how evil Colette looks, just by matching her color scheme to a bunch of Neverborn. There's a lesson there. Quote
GreenMonkey Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Thanks for the feedback guys! I've been working on a few more minis over the past few days. Here is what I'm using as a Depleted. I wasn't able to get my hands on the new mini during Gencon so have had to use a proxy! 10 points to anyone who can guess where this mini is from Quote
Anger Worm Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Awesome crew! Great colors - vibrant but not too bright. I would love to see some closeups! Quote
GreenMonkey Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Hi guys, I think I've finally finished my crew for this weekend! There are a few more minis I wanted to include in the pool to choose from just to give myself a few more options, but I'm happy with what's been painted. Let us know what you think! Pandora and her Sorrows: Stitched Together (gamble your life?? ): Crew as a whole: Cheers guys, GM Edited January 23, 2013 by GreenMonkey Quote
Evilbleachman Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 A W E S O M E Also, I want the base colors on the purple in your Sorrows and the blues in 'Dora and Stitched Together. O_O Quote
GreenMonkey Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Thanks man! All of the purple used in the crew is just Vallejo game colour hexed lichen. It is just wet blended with white. The blueish looking colour on the stitched and Dora is called coal black by privateer press P3. Hope that helps! Quote
underdog6750 Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Those crews look amazing. Really nicely tied together and yet individual at the same time. I think im sold on the transparent bases. The next faction i start i may use them Thanks for sharing and good luck st the weekend! Quote
