oconlan
Hi Guys, Here's the second video - this time I look at the basics of model control. http://www.farfaraway.org/blog/2012/12/22/malifaux-vassal-module-controlling-models-video/ Owen
Mister_Q
Is there any way to leave the ruler in place when you're moving the model? Or for VASSAL to show how far the model has been dragged from it's initial position? The way it seems to work at the moment is "measure; move to approximately where you remember the ruler ended up". sssk
You can just use the up arrow to move the model one inch. Obviously tap it x number of times, where x=your walk value, and you're sorted. Easier than dragging models I suspect
oconlan
Is there any way to leave the ruler in place when you're moving the model? There seems to be an issue (a minor one) that they don't stay in place. sssk is right that the work around it to use the arrow keys to move your models, but the tapes should persist. I'll chat to Ratty.

The whole rotate to direction, then move is a bit more fiddly than just dragging the model though. It's also a bit less precise as to final placement. Having the ruler stay in place or having it just tell you how far from the initial point you were would be a lot more like how you do it in the physical game. I think in the long term you find the rotate an move much simpler, you can always nudge it into the perfect position at the end. The tape measure in Vassal is horrifically buggy and was causing real issues for people in playtesting to the point people were just not using it for anything but gun and spell ranges, so in the end I turned off persistance which was causing the majority of the issues. Mister_Q
I'm sure you're right. It just seems a shame that since its all being done on the computer that movement and fire ranges, etc. can't be calculated and shown. I suspect it's something to hope for from VASSAL rather than the Malifaux module. It's still all pretty cool though.
