Craaaaazy combinations: Correct Feaction Edition

Well, Ten Thunders is a faction that is varied as all hell. Thing is this thread is to discuss the more esoteric combinations that can be added to a crew.

An example from the top of my head, though I don't know the details, Misaki is supposed to be a scalpel of death, well, we could add Toshiro with a couple of punks/ashigaru to her list along with whatever else would be neat with her. It gives you some models that don't give a damn about morale, who have their own movement buff and the Daimyo rule on Toshiro allows him to buff whatever else Misaki is bringing to the table for melee pain (Yamaziko, ronin, Torakage).

Lets see if people can come up with other interesting combinations that may be able to work out on the table. Be it a big boy band of Kang, Ototo, Mr Graves And Izamu under Misaki or whatever.

Let the juices flow!

Very curious to see how this will turn out - I think the dual faction properties of the Ten Thunders make it a totally unique faction. I do not have my SoS rulebook yet, but I was wondering whether or not a Ten Thunders crew could have units from multiple other factions so long as each unit had the dual faction rule... This could render some unique combinations, particularly if you can have Guild, Resser, Arcanist, and Neverborn models in the same crew...

I will keep my eye on this thread - thanks for posting, Razhem.

OK, I made another booboo with Izamu, but Yin IS dual faction, so hey, any Ten Thunders master can have their own personal terror bomb. And if Yan Lo is the master you can have Izamu, Kang and Ototo to have stupid amounts of beatdown if you are interested in doing something that nutty.

Just seems like there is a huge amount of potential for unexpected combinations with all of this.

I think the Torakage's ability to swap with any Ten Thunders model is going to be huge for the faction as a whole, and depending on how exactly it works, I think they'll be making an awful lot of lists...

Great synergy with melee beaters like Ototo and Kang, allowing them to get into position easily and without taking shots. Great to pull Misaki out of trouble once she's attacked...

Swap with a Clockwork Trap so it can prime itself nearer the action. Swap with Mr Tannen to get him in range of his abilities without relying on his pretty low Wk...

Depending on whether they can do it multiple times in a single activation, you could swap pretty much any Ten Thunders model for another (I.e. Misaki has just killed something, Torakage swaps with her to save her bacon then swaps with a cheap Trap to save his own) - if this is possible, there is huge potential there...

Wastrels sound like they have some kind of movement trick, which will allow for some interesting swaps and if nothing else, one of them can carry the 18" once per game teleport - its an (all) action, but the Torakage can still swap with him for huge shenanigans...

Toshiro can be moved prior to summoning, for better positioning - the list just goes on and on...

Unfortunately No O&F - the bury spell is a (2) spell and the swap is a (1). I guess it would be possible if you have a student of conflict, but not really worth it....

more to the point of the topic, how about this for a Mei list as 10 Thunders:

Mei

emberling

willie

Graves

Rail Golem

rail worker

clockwork trap x3

5 SS cache

I really like Mei Feng with 3x mechanical traps. 6 soulstones gets you a pretty awesome railwalker path on turn one; something to deal with fast factions nabbing objectives before you can get there.

I'm really digging Mr. Lynch as a 10T model. You know who likes having a huge hand? Jack Daw. You know who really likes having a bunch of Terror buddies? Yin. The question is, what else would you run in that kind of list? I don't have the book, so I'm not sure how much the rest of the casino crew like WP shenanigans, and I'm not sure I've heard what else Mr. Lynch can bring with him. Beckoners, maybe?

If there is an easy way to apply brilliance to your own models, Toshiro might be a decent addition, as well. Lure the enemy into killing a punk, pop out the Hippo, then re-summon it.

Honestly, I wouldnt take Mei Fei without Kaeris. But then you'd have to run her as Arcanist.

I was thinking like that for a long time. To be fair, I think that they would be BFFs if you wanted to run them that way, but, in the end, they are both models that can really monopolize your supply of soulstones and control cards... Not to mention the fact that I am in absolute love with the rail golem, and he doesn't really play well with accelerant. Not only does it give the enemy the choice of dumping burning tokens off their models so you can't refuel your golem, but you'll be burning it up, too.

I think she will run just fine without Arcanist-specific models. The fact is, it is my humble opinion that Arcanist minions are the weakest in the game (to make up for the masters having some of the strongest synergy effects). Other than Kaeris, who will Mei miss? Gunslingers? I suppose that arachnids are good for setting up rail walker movements over difficult terrain, but really, I think that Mei brings everything she needs with her to 10T.

EDIT:

Pouring over all the information that I have right now, couldn't you get into melee with a Torakage, then swap Mr. Tannen into melee with a model you want to mess with? You get Tannen's Equalize Fate talent, which means you can pare down the opponent's hand if they activate the model he's engaged with, while Mr. Tannen is still Pitiful because he didn't activate to get there.

Not a very useful trick for Lynch, as I can't actually imagine the enemy getting a bigger hand than you, but it could be used to pin down troublesome enemy models (Hey Rasputina! You want to put a wall in front of Misaki, you need to discard two cards to do it.)

Why Graves?

I'd go with a Metal Gamin and two stones - makes Mei a much better hitter, and she has use SS while Graves does not.

the main reason Mei would take the gamin is to give her crew some extra survivability, and to allow her to bounce to them. She has the traps for bouncing, and she's pretty durable as is. The main reason for graves is as a big melee hitter, who can boost the entire crews movement.

Basically, you link the emberling to graves, move to be behind the whole crew and then seismic punch to push everyone forward. Next, graves goes, uses his (0) to push everyone another 4" and then he moves twice. emberling pops to him, and suddenly you have an entire turns free movement for most of your slower models.

Give Hungering Darkness Brilliance, then have HD cast reactivate on itself. When it dies, Jakob brings it back automatically, then it gets to repeat the same pattern again, for a total of 4 activations in 1 turn.

Doesn't work. Slave to Darkness is when a model with Brilliance is killed or sacrificed (And no Hungering Darkness in play). Serve Me doesn't kill or sacrifice the model, only removes it after its second activation (and besides, if it was killed or sacrificed, the Hungering Darkness would be in play at the time of the event so you could not trigger Slave to Darkness off of it).

This also means that you cannot Serve Me a different model, kill the Hungering Darkness and then resummon it when the Serve Me'd model Reactivates.

I know that most of these combos revolve around the Torakage, but here's one more: bring along a Student of Conflict and use it to gas up your favorite beater with fast before a Torakage moves it to the front lines. Next turn you can either pull something back with the Torakage, and have the student gas it up, or you can gas up the Torakage itself, and then it transposes itself with the beater.

I suppose you could also use the Torakage to move the student itself so it gets the all important (all) action off, as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

well, since misaki has access to tailor, in a 25ss list, u can put in an archer, tailor, and ototo. Put the 2 in front of the archer, and they have to hack away at your tanks while archer fires since he can apparently ignore LOS through other models. Its really more food for thought. It'd also probably be better to just have a torakage
