CrouchingMoose Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Im finally looking into adding von schill to my collection and im trying to figure out the best way to do so. I can see myself using von schill extensively, as well as the librarian quite a bit, and the trapper some as well. I dont know about the regular freikorpsmann or the specialist, even if i had von schill leading the.crew. I was hoping some people could convince me 1 way or the other Quote
Cadilon Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I just recently faced this question. I am a big fan of buying the box sets as they are the best deal. But I play Guild and didn't see myself taking any of Von Schill's Special Forces over what the Guild has available otherwise. So I just bought the blister. But if you even think you might find the other models useful in the future (and it sounds like you will) I'd take the box set. If purchased this way you usually get 1-2 models for 'free' as opposed to buying the blisters separately. Quote
CrouchingMoose Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Thats the thing...i only see myself using 1 or 2 of the extra models...definantly not all 5 Quote
Kadeton Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 If you're playing the Freikorps with the Viks, definitely get the box set, they're barrels of fun. If you're planning on taking him as a Mercenary for other factions, you can just get Von Schill by himself - I find the Librarian is too expensive when used this way. Of course, my actual approach to this is always to get the box set, because you never know when you'll feel like a change of scene. The Freikorps are one of the most complete crews out of the box, perfectly capable of being run as-is in small games. Quote
Stonedog-7 Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I bought the box set and haven't looked back... the basic Freikorpsmann, although not great in other factions is an amazingly cheap solid option for outcasts, a 4ss non-insignificant option with the survivability they bring is great for making sure you're not TOO outnumbered Quote
RebeccaJo Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I have to agree with Stonedog-7. The Freikorpsmann are great objective runners, 4ss (in faction), significant, and have pretty good defense. They have been worth it any time I have taken them. The Specialist is one of my favorites for a couple of reasons: 1.) his was extremely fun to paint. 2.) He has really good damage output. and 3.) he has a neat ability that if he is charged or is in melee with a model that has a WP of 6 or less (I'm pretty sure it is 6... The card and book are at my boyfriend's) they get a negative 1 to their attack flips. so basically they cannot cheat and you have a higher chance of them either flipping low, or wasting high cards when flipped with a low card. Overall, I would get the box. Even if you don't plan on taking all 5 at once, there is a good chance that over time, you incorporate the different models for your needs. They also are pretty fun, although I prefer to run Von Schill as a master instead of a henchman. Quote
Serigala Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 And you get an extra Outcasts crew that you can play in smaller games when you eventually see the error of your ways.... Quote
Joel Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I went for the blister today. I'll leave the full freikorps to a clubmate as he already has intentions to take it and runs the viks. Quote
nilus Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 The box set does make a decent demo crew, which is why I have it although I tend to use on Von Schill in other crews. Quote
