Now, I have been playing ressers and have the molly , nic and seamus boxes , and my mates have the viks the ortegas and the show girls. I have a forth friend who plays 40k and I want to get him in to malifaux , So i want to buy a non resser box set to play a few games with him with BUT I want one that I can use with my ressers masters when we are done , I am thinking either levi or von schill . Before you say " use the models you have " I dont like the idea of introducing someone to the game with resser V resser ... it would give the impression that the whole game is dependent on corpse Counters. Joel Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Von Schill doesn't have particular synergy with anyone, but he's so good he makes any crew better as he can plug a hole your faction can't. The freikorps themselves have other useful abilities depending on your needs. The specialist can give you blasts, for example, and the librarian can heal well. It's not so much synergy as a great compliment to your forces instead. Quote

The twins seem like the best option although I don't think they work well with the ressers Quote

Nicodem and levy work really well together, since levey has models like SPAs, Desolation engine and ashes and dust that are all undead and can be bolstered. Frecorps works well since they add a much needed range boost to undead lists. Quote

As far as I can figure it out taking nic with or without von schill himself you can use any thing in the von schill box Taking nic without levi you can use the steam punk abominations which you get four of. Not sure if you can take levi and nic as ratty's crew creator wont let you pic him as a second master. That only leaves me to say that as for as i can tell the von schill box is good to go as is. SO.... What extras do you need to make levi work ? Do any of you guys use the steam punk abominations in your ressers crew ? Boshea Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 For the purpose of teaching the game I'd say go with Von Schill. His box is pretty straight forward to play, especially if coming from a GW background. Schill is the center piece to your crew, and each Freikorps man is designed to cover a different task. Levi however is probably the better box for expanding your own collection. Levi still has a bit of the problem with resser vs resser since Levi also uses corpse counters, and he is a fairly complex model to play. Still, you'd likely still be able to teach your friend how to play if you were to play Levi and he was to play one of your resser crews. At the end of the day though it'll likely end up something like this. If you go with the Von Schill box you'll probably only ever use Von Schill in a resser crew due to his mobility. If you go with Levi you get another master to play with who can use pretty much all the resser minions you own, and hire Molly as a henchman. Quote

The only non-Res undead out right now are Killjoy, Steampunk Abominations, Ashes and Dust and Desolation engine. The only one of those models that can be hired by any faction is Killjoy. The other three can only be used by Leveticus or Nicodem(since he can hire any non-unique non-spirit undead). And to be honest the other three only work really well with Levi. So if you are looking for a non-Res crew to work with Ressers you are not going to find a lot of Undead or synergy. You are really just looking at two Mercenary crews and mercs don't tend to have a lot of synergy outside there own units(or at all). People are saying Von Schill because his crew is pretty straight forward and shooty and because he is a monster himself. A lot of Res players take him in there lists without any of this other members because he is very good. He provided high damage shooting and mobility which a lot of Res crews can use. Quote

rancor709 Posted March 31, 2012 Report Posted March 31, 2012 Von Schill is taken because he is highly moblie range 12 death engine. Ressers players like him because he brings what we don't have. A Highly mobile shooty death engine that can weaken and finish off threats to the crew. He is great at claiming objectives and handling most of the big uglies the other factions can take. The fact he's hard to lock in combat read rocket boots let him jump out provided he's not frozen to terrain, is only ht2 and has slow to die with use soulstones with a 12" ranged attack with a weak damage of 3. As i've said before Von Schill is like bacon, he makes everything better. Quote

Just looking at the con chill model....he is SO getting painted like hulk hogan brother !! love the mullet ! Thanks for the advice guys ! So what do you need to add to the levi box to make him playable ? What other models from different factions do you guys use ? Is there any other tricks I am missing ? I've been thinking about this- painting the Freikorps where Von Schill is Hogan and the 'Korps are either Hulkamaniacs in red and yellow or the nWo in black and white :-P Quote
