SpiralngCadavr Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 So,I've talked about these guys a little more in-depth on my blog, but, for those who want the quick payoff, just pics: Quote
Guild Monkee Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 The colour scheme on the golem and gamin is great, nice work! Quote
moetle Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Absolutely one of the best versions of this crew I've seen. Love it! Quote
SpiralngCadavr Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 The colour scheme on the golem and gamin is great, nice work! Thanks, it wasn't what I was originally intending (way darker, but I decided to go with it), but it came out pretty well, I thought. Absolutely one of the best versions of this crew I've seen. Love it! Wow! Thanks! I appreciate your work, too. Quote
dgraz Posted March 21, 2012 Report Posted March 21, 2012 Umm, yeah....freakin' sweet. Great colors. Quote
Requirement Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 The colour scheme on the golem and gamin is great, nice work! I whole heartedly second this. The dark colors are annoyingly good. Quote
El Indio Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Nice! I love the "inner glow" effect on the constructs. Dark colors are tricky to work with, and you did them quite nicely. Quote
von Clausewitz Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Yeah, this color scheme is amazing. Great to see a tasteful departure from the standard Raspy colors. Quote
durek Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Very very nice, and original colour scheme. Quote
TeeCee Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Yes, very nice colours use of highlights. Quote
SpiralngCadavr Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Wow- thanks for all of the positive feedback! I just primed my little beasties (Wendigo and a bunch of Hoarcats), and am going to try to get to those this weekend. I can't wait to get/paint a Silent One and SnowStorm, but I haven't been able to find them yet. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Gamin, but they've grown on me, and I love the rest of the December theme. Quote
Wings Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Ooo, Raspy looks all pretty. I really like the look of the Ice Golem - the darker colours definitely suit it. Quote
LonelyPath Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Great work and I like seeing a darker colour pallet on raspy for a change. I painted mine with a white coat but wasn't happy and bought another, I'm going to try a darker pallet myself no my 2nd mini of her, thanks for the inspiration Quote
SpiralngCadavr Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Great work and I like seeing a darker colour pallet on raspy for a change. I painted mine with a white coat but wasn't happy and bought another, I'm going to try a darker pallet myself no my 2nd mini of her, thanks for the inspiration Glad I could help! Personally, I don't think the dark colors are necessary (I just tend to go dark)-- I feel that the real issue is the blue: blue isn't a very easily acquired natural color, so, especially in pre/early-modern dyes, you're not going to see a ton of it. Add to that that it's an extremely light (note: not faded, just light) blue, and you're talking about fabric that needed to be heavily processed. This all adds up to something much more expensive/hard to get than something Rasputina (an ex-con) would be likely to have access to or flaunt, and certainly seems unlikely for the December cultists to get. You can definitely make up reasons (different colors are more common in Malifaux, or the Union connections allowed her to get rarer fabrics), but I preferred to go with the more obvious colors, and go with something natural. Anger Worm Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 I love the stark black with the snow. Great blue lighting on the golem too. Groovy crew. I think a baking soda approach to the snow might look less artificial/crumbly. It wont yellow if you put some white paint in it. Quote
SpiralngCadavr Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi, thanks for the tip re: baking soda. The photos make the snow look way chunkier than it is, but I always avoided baking soda because of said fear of yellowing. I'll need to test that out! Quote
El Indio Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Best snow tutorial I've ever seen: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2010/01/details-8-ways-to-base-with-snow.html I intend to use it when I get around to my own Rasputina crew. As for certain colors being more common in Malifaux -- it certainly seems that red hair is common as dirt over there, so why not? Quote
SpiralngCadavr Posted March 24, 2012 Author Report Posted March 24, 2012 Thanks for the link, and I definitely noticed that one, too. Quote
