30ss Tourney - May 12 - Falls Church, VA (NoVA)

I want Nayte round 1 and Guy in Suit round 3.

Now, to make that happen..... Not that I have a grudge or anything. *grin*

I'm not above rigging a tournament. Mwhahaha.

Of course we're going to do things by the book. If you get those match-ups, it'll just be the luck of the draw.

Hello everyone! The tournament was a success! We had a total of 12 people come out and play for 4 rounds. It seemed like everyone had a good time, so thanks to everyone who came out. A special thanks to those of you who came from outside of Virginia, and nice meeting those I'd never met before. I hope you all had fun. Onto the results!

  1. Mike (12/20/28) Neverborn
  2. Andrew (9/20/28) Outcasts
  3. Bill (9/7/22) Neverborn
  4. Brian (7/4/22) Guild
  5. Matt (6/6/18) Neverborn
  6. Dan (6/1/21) Resurrectionists
  7. Josh (6/-2/12) Outcasts
  8. Nayte (4/-1/19) Arcanists
  9. Alex (4/-1/19) Neverborn
  10. Marshal (4/-13/11) Neverborn
  11. M Matt (3/-20/4) Outcasts
  12. Eugene (0/-13/5) Arcanists

Congratulations Mike on the King of NoVA and a truly impressive set of games! Mike played Collodi in all 4 rounds with the same list.

In terms of LGS awards, which followed the Accumulation / Games Played, the scores were:

  1. Warmongers 7
  2. Huzzah Hobbies 5.75
  3. Victory Comics 3.17
  4. Neverland Games 1.83

Congratulations Andrew of the Warmongers! I'm going to hear about how amazing of a player you are for weeks! Thanks for coming down and showing everyone how to play Outcasts. Andrew played a combination of the Viks and Ophelia to accomplish whatever needed doing.

Your wish is my command. For now, here are the strategies. Twice for two means that two people got half points for it, but since that added to a full that wasn't obvious. Since I counted the "shared" as flipped twice (once for each player), I made note of that.

Highest percent for anything taken over once is Reclaim Malifaux. The only Master Specific schemes achieved were Outcasts, but Outcasts were the only ones not taking their Faction schemes (except once).

Bodyguard was the most popular scheme -- no surprise there. Assassinate and Breakthrough tie for second. Stake a Claim and Kill Protege tie for next most taken. Hold Out is the only other general scheme taken 5 times or more.

Stop it with all the stats, you are making all of us who just post the results look bad :)

Sounds like a great event. Its a shame that the Master of Malifaux didn't get to meet Nix at a table this time out.

Don't worry about it, I'm making up the numbers anyway.

Nix was at the top table in the last round, and it was Collodi v Zoraida + Collodi. It was close to a mirror match, and very interesting to see (at least the parts I did see).

One of the reasons I wanted to do so many stats was to see how much things really panned out.

With that said, a question to those of you who played: Did you think that knowing your opponent's Master before hiring your crew helped balance the game?

This one is just for nilus :-P and now I'm done, I think, with numbers.

Six masters with perfect showings: Collodi, Ophelia, Pandora, Leveticus, Perdita, and Seamus. Of those, only 3 saw the table more than once (the first three). Two Masters achieved 8 VP every time they hit the table: Ophelia and Pandora. Both hit the table twice. After that, it was a tie for an average of 7 VP with Collodi (overall winner), Seamus, and Lady J. The only other Masters to average 5 or more VP per game were Leveticus and Perdita, at 6 (both only saw the table once).

What do all these numbers mean? Nothing, really. But they might be overall helpful if I can line them up with future tournament data.

And as I said, it was mostly just to flaunt my own data. Isn't my data sexy? It gets allllll the ladies.

---------- Post added at 08:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 PM ----------

I think he works with numbers at his job.

True, but not in a good way.

Asking him NOT to post a disturbing amount of stats and details is like saying to an earthquake.."hey! hold still for a second"

Come now! This is the first time I've ever collected Malifaux stats :-P You should see Nix's spreadsheets! Now there's data!

But yeah, for a tournament I wanted to get a lot of information, as I thought that specific data would be helpful for trying to plan out future events.

Aaron, to answer your question about whether knowing the masters early helped to balance things, I honestly didn't really use that information in creating my lists, so I can't really say. I do know it was a step I kept almost forgetting until my opponent asked me who I was playing.

On the question of declaring master before hiring the rest of the crew, I will agree with Mike. I did not find it useful. I already had an idea what my crew would be going into the games and hired my whole crew based on strategy.

Ok, thats not entirely true. I hired my crew round 1 based on a new player next to the table picking Zoraida over Pandora because she looked cooler. I picked Pandora round 2 and 3 due to strategy and match-up in faction (Neverborn and Reser). Round 4 I took Dan's advice but was too lazy to unpack a different crew so I took Zoraida against the best Zoraida player I know. My mistake cost me dearly! *grin*

the players will mess it up by not playing perfectly

You're welcome. I aim to please.

Announcing masters may have helped in my game against Collodi (I would have taken more blast producing pigs), however we both forgot to announce and setup like normal.

It didn't really help me - as I have to pick my master before knowing as well - and the decision whether to take an all WP4 crew or not is made once I've picked Ophelia. I mean, I probably would have liked knowing I was totally boned and playing Hamelin before crew selection - but I would have already gone down the path of no return lol.

Honestly, the choose master beforehand only really influenced my crew once. But then it might have had more of an impact had I not played the same faction 3 rounds in a row ;-)

Subjectively, I'd say it doesn't really matter, but I feel like it definitely has the potential to matter based on strategies.
