It's just easier to strip it. Although, depending on the amount of excess and the paint you used, here's what I do when this occurs sometimes (after all, I'm usually heating my paint, running outside w/ my models, spraying them in 30 degree weather and then running back inside):

Set it on a box in front of my gas furnace on the floor so that the draft out the bottom of very hot air blows on it directly, if I let this sit w/ it on continuously for a couple hours it almost bakes it onto the metal and reduces or eliminates the issue.
