magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Hi A couple of us from the UK are about to commit to $3000 to fly across for GENCON this year but we're slightly worried we're going to turn up and there be nothing Malifaux happening. Has anyone got any plans for the Con? Hopefully there's a Wyrd Tournament again (which is what we're coming over for) and a lot of US members will be going (which is the other reason we're flying across) - but it's a lot to spend based on things which "should" be happening. Can anyone confirm anything that will be happening? We need to commit in full by the 25th (in two days) so any comments would be really appreciated. Thanks guys and all the best. MP Quote
Nathan Caroland Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 There most certainly will be events. Quote
magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 There most certainly will be events. As is official Wyrd events? I guess I don't want to be turning up for a handful of games of Malifaux in the lobby - for $3k I can come across to the US three times to play away from Gencon. (I appreciate you may be keeping things up your sleeve, an "it will be worth coming" is all we're looking for really ) Quote
TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 When Nathan says "events" it means "Official Wyrd Events".... he is the Big Boss Man Quote
magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) ^^ I'm thinking that, I'll take it as good enough Edited January 23, 2012 by magicpockets Quote
Soundwave Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 That reminds me, not long until it's time to sit in front of the compy at ungodly hours pressing f5, hoping that the limited's will be up soon... Oh the agony/joy. Quote
magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 I'm looking forward to explaining to customs why I have two suitcases full of models for people who want to avoid shipping costs and delays to the UK Quote
TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 just make sure you CHECK them... don't try to take them as Carry on's... Trust me on this one 0_0 Quote

TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I heard this story about a guy who had his stuff masterwork painted... cost him a LOT of money... When he tried to bring them through security he got flagged and they asked if they were hollow. He said yes (they were mechs) and the security guy told him that he'd have to break them open to make sure he wasn't smuggling stuff inside... So he did it himself... got to GenCon.. had to strip all the paint off, put them back together, and repaint them so he could play.... I ship all my minis when I go by air... not worth the hassel... but seeing as you're coming from the UK... it'll be easier to bring them through customs than through security... just don't bring NE LCB or Bad Juju... I think those are the only two that are hollow... Quote
magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 That's amazing, and I'm glad you pointed it out Quote
mythicFOX Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 LOL not good. LCB's the only one IIRB. JuJu's not hollow. Adam, maybe we should take two crews each, one in our own case and one in the others. That way when my bag's been shipped to India by mistake at least I'll have a crew. Quote
magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 I'm tempted to FedEx my stuff across in advance tbh and pick it up in Indy. Quote
mythicFOX Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Good thinking. Although the odds are probably just as bad either way. I might be having a crate of toy's FedEx'ed home afterwards Quote
TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Juju has a... pocket... under his head... where his arm attaches... It's not big, but it's big enough that, if they were to scan it, you'd have to tell them it was hollow... I wouldn't be surprised if Momma Gupp was hollow too... she looks like she's gonna be a beast... same with the Mauler... unless he's Ressin... I don't think you guys will have issues with Customs (I don't see why you would) but security is another matter. If I were you guys I'd bring crews like... Sonnia, Pandora, The Vikis, Von Schill, etc. Most of them are solid pieces and none of them are big enough to hides something in. Here is the Customs Website: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/ I'm sure there is someone you might be able to contact about it... When I looked on the TSA website, I was surprised that I could being a Crochet hook onboard... *shrugs* you never know Quote
TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 UPS is way better and that UPS not USPS Quote

TheOneWhoFell Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 ooo me either! I do love UPS though... as a whole they have been wonderful to me Quote

Mako Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Congratulations, you've just been added to Homeland Security's watch list. Is that the exclusive club where you get a free wristwatch for going to America? Or the other one, where they do unpleasant things while searching you for anything bigger than a watch... Quote
LonelyPath Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 Well, G.I. Joe and Action Man dolls have had their weapons confiscated by airport security before now as they could be offensive weapons. oh and my mother had a pin badge wit ha 1/4" pin taken off her as well since it could be used as a weapon. Never underestimate the jobsworth potential of airport security. Heck, I had to have my boots scanned once and then had to have them back to put on so I could walk through the security gate which took plenty of arguing until I stated that I couldn't walk without the support they gave. Needless to say I then set off the alarm and had to be searched and they were pretty rough about it to. Still, if you do enjoy being a masochist, go through Atlanta, they LOVE to go out of their way to make your visit to that airport a truly unpleasant one (my fastest time through customs and immigration there was nearly 3 hours with barely anyone else apart myself and the staff present). magicpockets Posted January 23, 2012 Author Report Posted January 23, 2012 Congratulations, you've just been added to Homeland Security's watch list. I wonder if they've got a forum, now that would be extreme trolling Quote

I didn't have any issues in Atlanta... but I was flying from Maine... though I'd argue that Maine is PRACTICALLY part of Canada so...... Quote
dgraz Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Get a flight that still serves meals. Get the steak and the airline will conveniently give you a knife.......... Quote
