The spawn Mother for Marcus

Kinda disappointed in this one - just got hold of book 3 briefly and this was one of the key things I wanted to read up on...

The 2 corpse counters for a 3SS model is a little bit meh on first reading, maybe it's the action efficiency part but still you have to get the corpse counters to the pool which takes effort

I can see uses, maybe fun against zombies for example, but overall...very much a let down.

Has anyone been using her, anything I've missed - any good tricks or am I right in saying situationaly useful but generally not worth the points?

I think the spawn mother is sort of a "preview of more to come" type thing. I deff think there will be more models to go with her released in the future. It would be cool though to see spawn mother and gupps teamed up with some silurids or something. Are they considered beasts? Might go with marcus well if there is enough water feature terrain.

So they're recyclable...Not so stuck on raptor --> gup thats a 1 SS saving....kinda meh for the action at least you'd need to spend...and wouldn't be suprised to see gup taken down to 30mm

Interested what potential you see as I was wholly disappointed by her

The entry is Gupps (plural?). They might be multiple small models on a larger base (like the SPAs, or Hoarcats). Otherwise, it doesn't really make sense for a baby silurid to be bigger than an adult silurid.

Still not very impressive though.

I'm hoping for a future Special Forces: Silurids!

From memory it's not a free push, it's a free move. So the Silurid can't escape from melee but they CAN hold a treasure counter while they do it. ;)

Only if they also happen to have a corpse counter on them.

Yes, the spawn mother gives silurids the added versatility of having to kill something in order to get a free 4" Wk in a very specific direction. She's a powerhouse alright. :)

Hey, I just realized you get a free Gupps model with her. That's something.

I haven't yet worked out specifics, but I was thinking something along the lines of...

Kill a Gupp/Raptor, use the corpse counter/s to make the spawning pool in your deployment zone. Have a silurid pick up a corpse (from a killed Raptor?) on the way to picking up a treasure counter, who then moves toward the pool at the end of activation. Combine it with multiple silurids passing the treasure counter to each other and you could possibly get it back to your deployment zone in a single turn. Might be a bit too tricky or impractical to realistically pull off though.

Getting a few corpse counters for silurid to carry around is easy. The Spawn Mum comes with a Gupp (ie. two free corpses) and the Mx Raptors are cheap enough to throw in for any extras you feel like. And when one of your corpse-carrying silurid die, the rest of your silurid should be fast enough to zip in, collect those corpses and pull out before your opponent has a chance to respond.

The 4" Wk is better than you might think. Combine it with a silurid's 2" melee and (0) Survival instinct, and you're now able to end an activation 12" away from a model you engaged without factoring in wk actions or (0) leap. That's outside of your average model's charge range, and far enough to force most shooters to Wk before trying to make a ranged strike.

I think of the spawning pool as a bunker. With recyclable Gupps on water terrain, they're going to have a tough time moving your crew from that position.

In any case, we're talking about a 5SS model here. What other 5SS minion lets you recycle corpses and add an extra degree of mobility to your crew? Not to mention that it has a shooting attack AND it's no slouch in melee either. ;)
