HunterB Posted January 9, 2012 Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 Hi!! I have a Viks crew and am wondering how best to bulk it out, I have the Viks box and a pack of Ronin. The main issue I have is I want to add in something else maybe along the lines of long range support or just back up. Would I am looking at: Convict Gunslinger Freikorps Trapper Desperate Mercenary But not sure which way to go, I was thinking Hans but is a bit much at 8ss. Sholto Posted January 9, 2012 Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 I have yet to try Von Schill or a Librarian, but I have found Misaki and a Convict Gunslinger to work well. Misaki has a huge threat range if she can get her 6" melee range spell off, and the Convict Gunslinger can kill just about any model in one Activation if he/ she can get Rapid Fire off. Serigala Posted January 9, 2012 Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 The problem I find with using any ranged support is that if the rest of your models are in melee with everything you want to kill, you rarely get to use it to its full affect. All the models mentioned above can be useful, and I would use all of them depending on scenario. The Freikorps boxset includes the Trapper, but I'd rather have VonSchill himself, or the Librarian with the Viks. I think we might see some Viks, Misaki, Ten Thunders crews when the brothers are released. In fact I'll lay claim to the name "Brothers and Sisters" crew right now! I would just buy the lot but my budget will not quite stretch to that! I may just pick up the trapper and Merc and see how I go, the main problem I have with the CG is that I am just not keen on the model!! Cheers everyone!! I'd save up for the friekorps box, as its a good value for the $$$ and gives you lots of options to add. Trapper for Ranged, Librarian for healing, Von Schill for all around bad-assery! With a few Soulstones von Schill can hold a flank by himself while Justice (or the Viks in your case) handles the melee. The other ranged options for the viks lack the resilience to do this. I agree on this, it's very nice. While what was mentionned above (melee crew clogging targets for shooters), she does pair well with the pistol Vik. Miss Demeanor was Wyrd's GenCon (semi-)exclusive model (because she's also been known, like the Miss Pack variant of Nurse, to show up with people's orders unexpectedly). My only disappointment is that I'll never do her the justice of the studio model (above) which has some of the nicest skin tones and finest faces I've seen on a miniature in a while. A tip of my digital hat to the painter. And even if nurses don't do it for you, Miss Pack is also a really nice sculpt. I was thinking of using her as an alt Sybelle (not a fan of the original) in a Seamus crew, but can't bring myself to paint her up as a zombie. He is a fantastic model in a crew of solos, and is so strong he can take a lot of attention away even from the Viks, leaving them free to get into position. In my game I moved him up into the middle of the Cult of December crew to see what would happen. He got charged and Red Jokered by Snowstorm, and then blasted twice by Raspy, and stayed in the fight, albeit on a single Wd. After having forced the opponent's hand in this way to no real benefit for him, the rest of my crew could charge in and begin the mop up. Von Schill really is worth his cost. At 35ss I took: The Viks (+0) Von Schill (9ss) Taelor (8ss) Miss Convict Gunslinger (5ss) Ronin (5ss) (8ss cache) Simple and effective, and not a single model can be ignored safely (not even the Ronin, as with her around you can either bring in another Ronin or restore a dead Vik). Would be fun propelling the DM across the table with a possible double-Obey from Hamelin, and then popping Killjoy out. Hamelin can then Obey him and your other chosen Minion while the Viks run amok. These days, not so much, just takes practice (more practice, more practice, and even more practice), a steady hand, and an eye for detail. Don't forget that the Librarian does have some other cool tricks up her sleeve, in addition to healing. It's just that healing is the most consistently useful ability for her.
